SnyderTalk Will No Longer Accept Donations

SnyderTalk has never solicited donations.  Even so, regularly people asked me about donating to SnyderTalk, so I installed a PayPal widget in SnyderTalk that enabled people to donate without involving me directly.

My logic was simple.  I didn’t want to be a fundraiser, and I didn’t want to commercialize SnyderTalk.

More than anything else, though, I didn’t want to resemble what I call a “pocket preacher”. That’s a phrase I coined to describe people who preach for pay.  Their so-called “calling” is a job, not a mission or a ministry.  They go to the highest bidder for cash.

That’s not the way Yahweh works.

A friend from Houston, Texas sent me an article that appeared in DailySnark titled “Pastor Steven Furtick Signs 6-Year, $110 Million Contract To Preach At Texas Church”. It’s satire, but satire is effective because there is a kernel of truth in it.  A large and growing number of religious leaders are guilty of worshipping the almighty dollar.

It’s not a new problem.  The same kind of thing was going on during the Messiah’s day.  See the video below:

According to the DailySnark article, as Pastor Steve was preparing to leave his following in Charlotte, North Carolina and move to Houston to join Pastor Joel’s following, he had these parting words for his Elevation group:

“I’m going to take my talents to Houston and join Joel’s legendary squad. I wish Elevation the best of luck in the seasons to come, and hope they can find someone as ripped and godly as me.”

That’s satire, too.  Preachers as a group are being portrayed as hucksters, and it’s not without cause.

The DailySnark article motivated me to do a little digging into Steven Furtick.  I googled his name and found his website: Steven Furtick Ministries.

The first thing I saw on Furtick’s website above a huge picture of him was “donate” and a shopping cart.  That’s when I decided that SnyderTalk will do more than just not solicit donations.  SnyderTalk will not accept donations.

Yahweh has taken care of all my needs, always has and always will.  Therefore, henceforth if anyone feels led to donate to SnyderTalk, please send your donations to Ir [City of] David Foundation.  They need your support; they are doing important work; and I know that Yahweh is behind what they are doing.

I’m doing important work, too, but Yahweh is providing everything I need.

The last step for me was to remove the donate widget from SnyderTalk.  It was an exhilarating feeling.  I should have done it long ago.

Yahweh is not in the fundraising business.  His Spirit leads His people.  That includes showing them how to deploy or not deploy their resources.  That’s a fact.

Many preachers are hucksters who use Yahweh to enrich themselves.  I am not a preacher, and I certainly don’t want to resemble a huckster.  See the video below.

Yahweh gave us brains and He expects us to use them.

SnyderTalk Comment:

Using Yahweh to get rich is a dangerous, stupid thing to do.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
