Burak Bekdil—Turkey: The Purges Continue:

Philipp Schwartz was a Hungarian-born neuropathologist who worked for the Goethe University in Frankfurt for 14 years until he was fired in 1933 for being Jewish. After his — and other scholars’ — dismissal, he convinced the then decade-old modern Turkish Republic to admit persecuted German professors to positions at Turkish universities. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the secular founder of the Turkish state, enthusiastically agreed to Schwartz’s proposal. Turkey quickly admitted 150 German Jewish professors. Schwartz was appointed as director of the Department of Pathology at the University of Istanbul. More than seven decades after, a German initiative that bears Schwartz’s name is returning the favor.

In the first week of 2017, another 631 Turkish researchers and professors were dismissed from their universities, adding to thousands who were purged during the second half of 2016. Several Turkish scholars are now reversing Schwartz’s path: In the fall of 2016, the Philipp Schwartz Initiative received more applications from Turkey than war-torn Syria or any other country. Turks now account for 46% of all applicants worldwide. As the Brussels-based European affairs weekly newspaper Politico put it: “Turkey loses its brains.”

Turkey’s problem is bigger than just literally losing its brains. The country apparently is also figuratively losing its brains. News headlines are so confusing that often one cannot decide whether he is reading a real newspaper or the Turkish version of The Onion, reflecting a collective, socio-pathological frenzy — ironically Schwartz’s work of science.

SnyderTalk Comment:

Turkish President Erdogan is unreliable, dictatorial, and deranged.  In other words, Erdogan is a serious problem.

Take a moment and watch this video:

President Trump needs to keep his eyes on Turkey.  So does the rest of the world.

Switching Gears

The world is in serious trouble with Yahweh.  It’s obvious to most of the faithful, but to others, it’s not so clear.  In fact, the unfaithful blame the faithful for the problems we face because the faithful won’t go along with their foolish ideas.

Refusing to acknowledge that Islamist terrorists embrace Islam is one of those foolish ideas.  In the United States, Erdogan would get a standing ovation at almost any university if he told an audience of students and faculty what he told Chancellor Merkel.

Islamists are the only true adherents to Islam, because they are the only ones who take the Quran seriously.  Other Muslims are nominal Muslims.  I call them Muslims in name only, MINOs.

If Erdogan addressed Democrat Party leaders and told them that “Islam and terror cannot be associated”, they would shout for joy.  That’s exactly what he told Merkel.

The Democrat Party represents about half the U.S. population, so we have serious problems.  They aren’t coming our way.  They are here right now, and they are coming to a head.

I’m not an alarmist even though what I’m about to say sounds alarming.  When divisions in a nation are as deep and wide as the divisions in our nation are, violence is certain and there will be blood.

I’m not prophesying.  I’m explaining.

Islamism is just one point of friction.  There are many others.  From abortion to climate change to animal rights to government control of healthcare to you name it, the friction is producing heat.  Eventually, probably very soon, there will be an eruption, a big one.

I wish this didn’t sound like a political statement, but I know it does.  For the record, I’m not a Republican.  Never have been and never will be.  I used to be a Democrat, though.

I have virtually no confidence in either political party.  The only thing that sets the Republican Party above the Democrat Party in my mind is the fact that they have not booed Yahweh at a national convention.

That is not an endorsement of the Republican Party.  It shows how low the bar has been set in politics and demonstrates how immoral we have become as a nation.

Although Donald Trump ran as a Republican, he isn’t one.  That should be obvious.  It’s equally clear that he isn’t a perfect human being.  Even so, Donald Trump was Yahweh’s choice for the presidency.  I believe he represents our last chance to get things right, and thankfully, he’s doing his job.

One common denominator ties all of our problems together.  As a nation, we have abandoned Yahweh.  The penalty for doing what we have done is catastrophic.

I’m reminded of something that a young King of Judah said when they discovered the Torah in Yahweh’s Temple while it was undergoing repairs.  Yahweh’s word had been lost, but the religious leaders were teaching something.  What were they teaching?

They were teaching the doctrines of men.  That’s exactly what we are doing today in politics and religion.  That never has worked and never will work.

This is what King Josiah said when they read the Torah to him:

“…great is the wrath of Yahweh which is poured out on us because our fathers have not observed the word of Yahweh, to do according to all that is written in this book.” (2 Chronicles 34: 21)

Abandoning Yahweh has a simple and precise definition.  King Josiah nailed it.  We have failed to do according to all that is written in Yahweh’s word.

We need to repent and call on Yahweh to heal our nation.  That’s not my opinion.  It’s what Yahweh said:

“If My people who are called by My Name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7: 14)

There is no other solution, and time is short.  It’s up to us to do what must be done.

Let’s be a beacon to the world, not  a blazing inferno.  Turn to Yahweh right now.

Change that Yahweh calls “good” begins in the hearts of believers—people who are recognizable because they are different.

We are different because we belong to Him and are called by His Name.  We are Yahweh’s people, His followers.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
