The Hill—GOP explodes in anger as feds create Iran carve-out for visas:

Furious Republicans assailed the Obama administration Thursday for making changes to a visa entry program for foreign tourists that they characterized as illegal.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Thursday announced changes to the easy-entry visa waiver program, which allows citizens from 38 countries — including Australia, France and Japan — to enter the United States without a visa.

The DHS said its new policy will not prohibit people from the 38 countries from entering the U.S. if they have recently traveled to or are dual citizens of Iran, Iraq, Sudan and Syria, which are considered hotbeds of terrorism.

Instead, those people — who otherwise would have been eligible to participate in the visa waiver program — will have to obtain a visa through the State Department.

However, the administration is also creating a carve-out solely for Iran, with visa waivers handed out on “a case-by-case basis” to people who have traveled there for “legitimate business-related purposes” following adoption of the nuclear deal last year.

Some journalists, diplomats and aid workers traveling to and from the four countries would also receive waivers, the DHS said.

Republicans blasted the announcement, saying President Obama is abusing a minor provision in the law to create a series of loopholes aimed at placating Iran.

SnyderTalk Comment: We still don’t know what side deals were made with Iran.  The Obama administration is as transparent as a block of coal.

We need a president who will investigate and take corrective action.

See:

Of course, lifting the sanctions on Iran will increase their investment in terrorism.  Iran’s leaders said that in so many words several times while the “negotiations” were ongoing.  The only people who didn’t know it were people who didn’t keep up with what was going on.

Obama is telling us that it was the best deal he could get.  That may be true, but it’s not the best deal a competent person could get.

When guppies do battle with sharks, sharks win.

The PolitistickCity Considers Creating Gun ‘Drop Boxes.’ What Could Go Wrong?: Officials in Tacoma, Washington, are considering an unorthodox idea meant to get guns off the streets; the city is considering a gun “drop box” that would allow a person to drop-off a gun into a secured, steel box no questions asked. The idea is being pushed by gun control advocates who still appear to believe that guns, not the criminals who use them, are the real dangers to society.

SnyderTalk Comment: When dealing with liberal “do-gooders”, the best course of action is to ridicule them.  They don’t like that.  Laughing at them helps, too.  They don’t like that, either.

There are plenty of intelligent fools.  Think back on the professors you had in college.  The one who stands out in my mind was a “global cooling is going to destroy the planet” fanatic.

Global cooling was the rage in the early-1970s. My professor was committed to it and was just as unwilling to consider the evidence then as global warming advocates are today.

For instance, consider this article from The Economist: “The hottest year on record: 2015“.

The Economist is a respectable publication.  The article was written by a journalist who has a political perspective.  He included precious little scientific data in his article, so we can’t determine whether or not he is being honest.

Now consider this article: “2014: Among the 3 percent Coldest Years in 10,000 years?

It’s from a blog that was created by a bona fide climate scientist to get the truth out.  The article was written by a climate scientist.  It includes lots of scientific data to support his conclusions.

Now, consider this article: “Antarctic Sea Ice Reaches New Record Maximum”.

It’s from NASA.  Based on NASA’s data, we can conclude that the decrease in Arctic and Antarctic ice in 2015 follows two years in a row of record ice in both regions. Thus, a pullback is not unexpected unless we are in imminent danger of going into another Ice Age.

In other words, the climate data from 2015 is nothing to get alarmed about.  That’s not what the writer of The Economist article wants us to conclude.

I have a pet peeve.  Writers of articles for the popular press don’t tell us that due to cost cutting measures, many weather monitoring stations were eliminated.  The ones that they tended to cut were in out-of-the-way places (deep in forests, for instance) and in colder, hard to access regions.  The ones they tended to keep are easily accessible because they are in airports.

Because of the lack of vegetation and because they are made of mostly asphalt and concrete, airports are hotspots.  I think that’s a significant fact.  Don’t you?

Of course the data will show increases in temperatures if you eliminate lower readings and keep higher readings.  That’s mathematics, but it has nothing to do with the climate.

The same types of people who trumpet global warming want to further restrict our 2nd Amendment rights.  They let their feelings interfere with their judgment.  Facts that contradict their opinions are ignored because considering them makes them feel uncomfortable.

They are unabashedly opposed to private ownership of weapons.  Nothing will change that.  Even so, in an emergency they will pray that someone with a weapon will protect them.

When seconds count, law enforcement officers are only minutes away. People who oppose private gun ownership should pray for gun owners nearby who are willing to put their lives at risk in order to help them out.

Does that sound intelligent to you?  It doesn’t to me.

U.S. News and World ReportTed Cruz used to count top members of the Bush clan as supporters: …Rising tensions reflect Cruz potentially helping to dent the Bushes’ position as one of the nation’s pre-eminent political families, personifying a deeper internal Republican Party struggle between insurgent conservative outsiders and the old guard establishment….Cruz supporters point to October, when George W. Bush said of Cruz to a roomful of donors: “I just don’t like that guy.” “I think it hurt him [hurt George W.],” Mosbacher said of the former president. “He failed to have his finger on the pulse.”… Cruz hasn’t retaliated, but being criticized by George W. Bush delighted his tea party base. Since then, Cruz’s candidacy has risen in the polls, while Jeb Bush’s bid has struggled.

SnyderTalk Comment: I won’t vote for Jeb Bush unless he’s running against Hillary Clinton or another Democrat.  For me, it would be the lesser of two evils.

I hope that I never have the opportunity to vote for Jeb in a general election.  I certainly won’t vote for him in the South Carolina primary.

My problem with the Bush family dates back to George H.W. Bush.  His “read my lips, no new taxes” pledge which he subsequently broke sealed his fate for me.  Our national government has more than enough revenue to get the job done.  Our problem is that we spend too much.

Rather than tackling our spending problem, both HW and W contributed to it.  W in particular was a problem.  While he was president, wasteful government spending skyrocketed, and he signed those spending bills with great fanfare.

The ethanol boondoggle was a W thing.  It’s a disaster, and it’s just one of the many stupid programs that he supported and we are paying for.  W created the Medicare prescription drug plan, but he didn’t pay for it.  Medicare Part D has contributed greatly to our national debt.

Now, the fact that W resents Ted Cruz because he thinks Cruz stands in the way of his family extending its political dynasty is getting attention.  It’s petty; it’s immature; it’s not Christian; and it’s hurtful.  It’s certainly not in the best interest of the nation.

I have a lot of Christian friends who like to taut W’s faith.  I’m fine with that and I don’t doubt it, but as president, he failed to do the job.  That’s what matters if you are president.

2016 is not about W and it’s not about the Bush dynasty, but these things stand out in my mind.  W’s Iraq war prevented the U.S. from eliminating the Taliban in Afghanistan.  It led to the rise of Islamist insurgency in Iraq, the Middle East, and North Africa, and it eliminated the only check on Iran in the region.  Geopolitically, W was a failure.

We are paying the price for W’s mistakes today.  Obama’s unilateral surrender in Iraq made things much worse, but Bush got the ball rolling.

As president, Obama is much worse than W.  That’s not a great endorsement.

W was a strong Israel supporter.  That’s a positive.  I just wish he had done a better job.  I wouldn’t be writing this if W hadn’t injected himself into the 2016 campaign in a sophomoric fashion.

I voted for W twice.  Both times it was a lesser of two evils thing.  I voted for him instead of Al Gore thinking he would do a great job.  I voted for him instead of John Kerry because Kerry is a bombastic imbecile.

2016 is a pivotal year.  Both HW and W caved to political pressure.  Since Jeb is the Republican establishment favorite, I suspect that he will cave, too.

Ted Cruz has a history of not caving to political pressure, even pressure from his own party.  I like that a lot.

This is my bottom line on Jeb Bush: I have been bushwhacked twice, and I don’t want to get bushwhacked again.  Nothing W says will change my mind about that.  Since Jeb is the GOP establishment favorite, I think there is a good chance that he will cave to their pressure.

Since W thinks Cruz stands in the way of his family’s political dynasty, Cruz must be the man to beat from W’s perspective.  That’s all the more reason to support Cruz.

Brig.-Gen. (res.) Yossi Kuperwasser—The True Face of the Palestinians’ Leader:  The editor of the Palestinian news agency Maan recently summarized remarks Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas made in a conversation with him, as well as in a speech he gave in Bethlehem last week. Some of what Abbas said, according to this report, such as his statement that the PA would not collapse but rather would disappear only after a Palestinian state was founded, were widely quoted in the media. But other remarks, like those made recently by Fatah Central Committee member Jibril Rajoub, did not reach Israeli or global media consumers. The latter heard only limited reports on statements by Rajoub and Abbas, who are very cosseted by the media overseas. For example, Abbas said that the security situation in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem is worse than in Gaza or Ramallah; that the “popular intifada will go on until the end of the occupation and there will be no return to negotiations without recognition of all the rights of the Palestinians;” that “progress toward an agreement must be achieved by international intervention;” that “the intifada would have been peaceful if the soldiers of the occupation had not killed Palestinian demonstrators, but now for every terror attack, for every knife and for every shooting by a Palestinian there is an explanation and the Israeli government is responsible for the bloodshed on both sides.”

Khaled Abu Toameh—Palestinians: Western Media’s Ignorance and Bias: Two Western journalists recently asked to be accompanied to the Gaza Strip to interview Jewish settlers living there. No, this is not the opening line of a joke. These journalists were in Israel at the end of 2015, and they were deadly serious. Imagine their embarrassment when it was pointed out to them that Israel had completely pulled out of the Gaza Strip ten years ago.

SnyderTalk Comment: I’ve learned from experience that you can’t underestimate the propensity of journalists to ignore facts when they write stories, especially if the facts contradict their opinions.

David M. Weinberg—Ratcheting up the pressure on Israel: The biting criticism of Israel’s policies in Judea and Samaria expressed this week by U.S. Ambassador Daniel Shapiro is not a bolt from the blue. It is a planned and purposeful escalation of American pressure on Israel, meant to force Israel into withdrawal, without peace diplomacy or Palestinian commitments.

SnyderTalk Comment: That’s an accurate assessment of what’s taking place.  It’s an Obama thing.

Mohamed Chtatou—Libya’s Chaos: Threat to the West: In 2011 when Libya’s former ruler, Muammar Gaddafi, was murdered by the mob of militiamen, many people believed it was the beginning of a new, free, democratic country. Libya, however, did not become free or democratic. Instead, it became fractured, violent, tribal and divided. Rather than starting a new life, Libya was sliding slowly toward some sort of hell. Over the years, as violence became a daily casual occurrence, Libya almost became synonymous in the news with disorder, and on its way to becoming yet another failed stated, like Somalia.

James Kirchick— How Intersectionality Makes You Stupid: As I write this, ISIS is hunting gay men to toss from the rooftops of Raqaa, and nearly 80 countries proscribe homosexuality. Yet for a 36-hour period earlier this week, the National LGBTQ Task Force chose to ally itself not with the one country in the Middle East that guarantees and protects the human rights of LGBTQ people, but with those who hang them from construction cranes.

SnyderTalk Comment: Sexual immorality is offensive to Yahweh.  The hypocrisy of those who champion it is breathtaking.

AlgemeinerJewish Human Rights Group ‘Horrified’ By British Doctors’ Request to Revoke Israeli Membership From World Medical Association: An international Jewish human rights organization expressed horror at a request made to the World Medical Association (WMA) by a large group of UK doctors that Israel’s membership be revoked. The Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC) sent a letter to WMA President Sir Michael Marmot to protest. SWC Director for International Relations Dr. Shimon Samuels warned that “the very mission of the World Medical Association (WMA) ethics programme is about to be impugned by a group of 71 British physicians intent on expelling the Israel Medical Association from your membership.”

Washington PostThis amazing map shows where most of humanity lives: The map above shows the distribution of the world’s population. Half of humanity lives in the black space and the other half in the yellow. It’s a stunning illustration of the degree to which people are concentrated in certain urban centers, particularly in Asia, where the majority of the global population lives.

SnyderTalk Comment: The map shows how under populated the world is.  More than 2 times the world’s population would easily fit inside the city limits of Jacksonville, Florida.  That tells us a lot.

Overpopulation fears are unwarranted.  That doesn’t keep people from warning us that overpopulation is a great threat.  The facts tell another story.

Amb. David Roet—Israel Warns UN of Hizbullah’s Role in Syria: Israel’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN David Roet told the UN Security Council on Tuesday: “We have all witnessed the struggle of the people of the Syrian town of Madaya, where 42,000 people have been taken hostage by Assad and his Hizbullah allies. The town and its people are under siege, surrounded by barbed wire, land mines and snipers. Left without basic access to food, men, women and children have been dying on a daily basis due to starvation and the harsh winter weather. They find themselves resorting to eating household pets and making soup out of grass….The use of starvation as a weapon of war is deplorable, and is a war crime.”

Amb. Alan Baker—Are There Double Standards in Israel’s Application of the Rule of Law in the Territories?: U.S. Ambassador Daniel B. Shapiro asserted on Jan. 18 that “at times there seems to be two standards of adherence to the rule of law – one for Israelis and another for Palestinians.” Indeed, according to the legal situation prevalent in the West Bank, there are two legal frameworks. The one applied by Israel’s Civil Administration vis-a-vis the Palestinian residents is based on the international norms regarding the administration of territory administered following armed conflict and pending a peace agreement. The second legal framework covers the Israeli residents within the territory who are subject on an ad-personam basis to Israeli law.

Hurriyet Daily NewsLocal court dismisses President Erdoğan’s appeal against opposition head: A local court in the Turkish capital Ankara has rejected a complaint made by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan against main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) head Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu for calling him “baş çalan” (prime thief) and “hırsız” (thief).

Washington PostKerry: Corruption ‘destroys faith’ in authority, leads to extremism: Secretary of State John F. Kerry said Friday that progress has been made in combating the Islamic State and violent extremism and called fighting government corruption an integral part of the battle.

SnyderTalk Comment: Obama and Kerry are poster boys for government corruption.  Both of them are shameless charlatans.

SnyderTalk Comment: Yahweh has arranged things so that in many ways Israel is a surrogate for Him.  Rejecting Yahweh’s promises about the Land of Israel and the Children of Israel is rejecting Him.

People can’t reject what Yahweh said and not reject Him.

That’s not my opinion: “Yahweh said to Samuel, ‘Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me from being king over them.’” (1 Samuel 8: 7)

Yahweh allows people to reject Him, but there is a significant penalty for doing it.  It plays out over time so many people don’t notice it, but it is as certain as night following day.

“For thus says Yahweh Sabaoth, ‘After glory He has sent Me against the nations which plunder you [Israel], for he who touches you [Israel], touches the apple of His eye.’” (Zechariah 2: 8)

The Hebrew word in Zechariah 2: 8 that’s translated as “apple” actually means pupil.  Smart people don’t play games with Yahweh, and they certainly don’t try to poke Him in the eye.

The “Me” referred to in Zechariah 2: 8 is the Messiah.  He is Israel’s Deliverer/Savior.  Most Jewish people see this as a reference to the Messiah’s coming.  Christians understand it to be a reference to His second coming.

Fact is it references His second coming.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
