Sarah May Stern—The Danger of What Hasn’t Been Said—Iran is Lurking:

Remember April Glaspie? In 1990, she was President George H. W. Bush’s ambassador to Iraq. During her first meeting with Saddam Hussein, rather than using blunt language to tell the Iraqi dictator that the U.S. was opposed to any act of military aggression by his nation against Kuwait, she opted instead to employ far more opaque phrasing, saying, “we have no opinion on your Arab-Arab conflicts.” In doing so, Glaspie may well have inadvertently led Saddam Hussein to believe that he would receive little more than a verbal condemnation for invading Kuwait, thereby setting the stage for two American wars and thousands of casualties. War was not Glaspie’s intention on that July day, but Iraq’s strongman misinterpreted her words.

In 1950, a similar lack of diplomatic clarity by then Secretary of State Dean Acheson, who implied that South Korea lay outside of the U.S.’s “defense perimeter,” helped incite North Korea to invade the South. The North mistakenly believed that the U.S. government would not intervene to defend South Korea. Today the Obama Administration may be inadvertently leading us toward a similar tragedy. Only this time, the dictator in question is Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei and the likely casualties will be the Israelis.

Last week while the terms of the Iranian nuclear deal were being written in Lausanne, Iran issued a statement saying that the destruction of Israel was non-negotiable. The Obama Administration chose not to address this comment. By ignoring Iran’s statement, our diplomats may have been unwittingly sending a signal that the annihilation of the Jewish state is permissible. Of course, the Obama Administration does not want Iran to attack Israel. But Ambassador Glaspie did not intend for Saddam to attack Kuwait either, nor did Secretary Acheson wish for North Korea to cross the 38th parallel and strike at the South.

SnyderTalk Comment: By accident or by design, Obama has opened the door for an Iranian attack on Israel.  The fact that Iran said annihilating Israel was “non-negotiable” didn’t faze Obama.

Having witnessed Obama’s antipathy for Israel since 2009, I think he put Israel in harm’s way by design.  At this point, drawing any other conclusion makes no sense.

Israel and other Middle Eastern countries have very few options.  They must fend for themselves.

I’m reminded of something the Messiah said:

“The Son of Man is to go, just as it is written of Him [in the Old Testament/Tanach]; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.” (Matthew 26: 24)

I think that verse applies equally well to Judas and Obama.  Since we elected Obama, I think the U.S. is in great danger.

There are consequences for bad behavior, and we crossed the line.

See “Netanyahu, Obama duke it out over Iran”.

Greg Gordon: Arab nations’ donations to Clinton Foundation: Curing world’s ills or currying favor?— Four oil-rich Arab nations, all with histories of philanthropy to United Nations and Middle Eastern causes, have donated vastly more money to the Clinton Foundation than they have to most other large private charities involved in the kinds of global work championed by the Clinton family. Since 2001, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates gave as much as $40 million to the Clinton Foundation. In contrast, six similar non-governmental global charities collected no money from those same four Middle Eastern countries; the International Committee of the Red Cross was given $6.82 million. Since 2001, these global foundations have raised a staggering $40 billion to $50 billion to fund their humanitarian work. The existence of foreign donors to the Clinton Foundation has been well-documented in the media. What hasn’t been revealed, however, is the disparity in donations by these four nations, all of which have been criticized by the State Department over the years for a spate of issues ranging from the mistreatment of women to stoking ethnic discord in the flammable Middle East.

SnyderTalk Comment: Watch out America.  You can’t say that you didn’t know.

Yitzhak Benhorin: Settlements, Iran and Hamas: Hillary Clinton’s Israel policy—After months of speculation and anticipation, Hillary Clinton finally announced Sunday she is running for president of the United States. Much ink has and will be spilled on her positions in both the domestic and foreign arenas – but in the meantime, Ynet takes a look back at her position regarding Israel. With her experience as first lady, senator and US secretary of state, Clinton has countless hours of meetings with Israeli leaders like Rabin, Peres, Barak, and Netanyahu under her belt; and has also been at the forefront of pro-Israel legislation in the Senate. Clinton understands Israel’s complex reality better than most contemporary American politicians – possibly even better than her husband, Bill Clinton. However, while Clinton is perceived as a long time Israel supporter, there were some controversial moments throughout her career which have cast doubt on the firmness of her position.

SnyderTalk Comment: Hillary’s corruption and immorality are almost beside the point to many people.  I’m absolutely certain that it matters to Yahweh.

Prime Minister’s Office:  Netanyahu Sets Out Terms for “Better” Iran Deal—Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday: “Iran insists on maintaining its formidable nuclear capabilities with which it could produce nuclear bombs. Iran insists on removing all sanctions immediately. And Iran refuses to allow effective inspections of all its suspect facilities. At the same time, Iran continues its unbridled aggression in the region and its terrorism throughout the world.” “Let me reiterate again the two main components of the alternative to this bad deal: First, instead of allowing Iran to preserve and develop its nuclear capabilities, a better deal would significantly roll back these capabilities – for example, by shutting down the illicit underground facilities that Iran concealed for years from the international community. Second, instead of lifting the restrictions on Iran’s nuclear facilities and program at a fixed date, a better deal would link the lifting of these restrictions to an end of Iran’s aggression in the region, its worldwide terrorism and its threats to annihilate Israel.” “Iran needs a deal more than anyone. Instead of making dangerous concessions to Iran, now is the time for the international community to reassert and fortify its original demands for a better deal. We must not let Iran, the foremost sponsor of global terrorism, have an easy path to nuclear weapons which will threaten the entire world.”

Vijeta Uniyal: Nuclear Iran’s “Spillover Effects”— When the West and Iran agreed — or not, depending on whether one believes the U.S. version or Iran’s — on the parameters of a supposed nuclear “framework,” India’s foreign office hailed the agreement as a “significant step.” India’s foreign office might have joined the international chorus welcoming the deal, but as U.S. President Barack Obama aggressively tries to sell the world his mysterious nuclear “framework,” India’s defense establishment is just not buying it. India’s defense establishment seems to be having acute qualms about this “framework.” One day after the P5+1’s mysterious “agreement” with Iran, India began gearing up for a more effective nuclear defense, and unveiled plans to equip the country’s capital, New Delhi, with a comprehensive missile defense shield to avert a nuclear attack. Once in place, the shield could intercept missiles fired from a range of 5,000 km, roughly double the aerial distance between New Delhi and Tehran.

Victor Sharpe: Peace, peace but there is no peace— Islam, which was described by no less than Winston Churchill as an ideology wrapped in a religion, will never allow its adherents to accept a non-Muslim state in land previously conquered in the name of Allah. That applies to Israel and equally to European countries it once occupied – Spain, Portugal, Greece, Sicily, the Balkans, and other lands in between. As for Israel, can it be any clearer that the Palestinian Authority, which represents the allegedly moderate Fatah wing, does not want to live side by side in peace with Israel but wants only to live without Israel? Just read the horrific anti-Jewish poison daily spewed by what passes as its PA controlled media. As for its more extreme wing, Hamas, its charter specifically calls for the slaughter of Jews worldwide and the extermination of the Jewish state. Both Fatah and Hamas terrorists are routinely in the business of killing Jews. For Israel, it is like being asked by a murderer, “What method of violent death would you prefer?”

Charles Krauthammer: The Iran Deal: Anatomy of a Disaster—Under the deal President Obama is now trying to sell, Iran’s entire nuclear infrastructure is kept intact, just frozen or repurposed for the length of the deal (about a decade). The inspection promises are a farce. We haven’t even held the Iranians to their current obligation to come clean with the International Atomic Energy Agency on their previous nuclear activities. Worse, there’s been no mention of the only verification regime with real teeth – anywhere/anytime inspections. As for the “snapback” sanctions, they are equally fantastic. There’s no way sanctions will be re-imposed once they have been lifted. China, Russia and the Europeans will not pull their companies out of a thriving, post-sanctions Iran. With sanctions lifted, its economy booming and tens of billions injected into its treasury, why would Iran curb rather than expand its relentless drive for regional dominance?

Moshe Phillips and Benyamin Korn: Trouble for J Street? Liberal Jews Turn on Obama Over Iran Deal—The top political and intellectual leaders of the Israeli left are coming out against President Obama’s capitulation to Iran. This development will impact the political dynamics in Israel, the American Jewish community, and the US-Israel relationship. And it will leave J Street on the fringe, once again. Israel’s Labor Party opposition, known during the recent election campaign as the Zionist Union, issued an official press release on April 2 criticizing Obama’s Iran deal. The head of the party’s Knesset delegation, MK Eitan Cabel, elaborated on his Facebook page: “I refuse to join those applauding the agreement with Iran, because the truth is it keeps me awake at night. President Obama promises that if the Iranians cheat, the world will know, but isn’t that exactly what the Americans promised after the agreement with North Korea?” The senior Labor Party official continued: “When a crazy religious regime with a proven track record of terrorism and cheating receives permission to get that close to a nuclear bomb, I am very worried. The fact that the man who is in charge of making sure the deal won’t be broken has a proven record of mocking his own redlines, makes me even more worried.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Obama has divided the U.S. and he has united Israel.  See “Herzog: ‘On Iran, no division between coalition, opposition’”.

Jackson Diehl: Obama Rolls the Dice on Iran—The weakest point in President Obama’s defense of his deal with Iran is his claim that “it is a good deal even if Iran doesn’t change at all.” Let’s consider that scenario. An Iran that does not change will reap hundreds of billions of dollars in fresh revenue from the lifting of sanctions, and it will surely use much of that to fund its ongoing military adventures in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen. It will supply more weapons to Hamas and other radical Palestinian groups, and invest more in its long-range missiles, cyberweapons and other military technologies not covered by the agreement. It will continue developing advanced centrifuges for uranium enrichment and after a decade will begin installing them. Iran will still seek domination of the Middle East and the elimination of Israel, but with far greater resources and the capability to build a nuclear weapon at any time of its choosing. And the odds of preventing a nuclear Iran will be considerably worse than they are now. So let’s be honest: Everything depends on Obama’s hope that nuclear detente will change Iran. But today it’s difficult to find an expert who believes Iran will soon evolve into a more benign power. Present and former senior administration officials I consulted said they expected the Iranian regime would remain the same in the next few years, or maybe get worse.

Khaled Abu Toameh: Gaza: Egypt Responsible For Weapons Shortage— Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi’s uncompromising war on terrorism, especially along the border with the Gaza Strip, seems to be bearing fruit. It is a war that is being waged away from the spotlight and with almost no reaction from the international community. This situation is a perfect example of how the international community and the United Nations do not care about the “plight” of the Palestinians as long as Israel is not involved. Sisi’s war on terrorism has thus far failed to spark the same uproar, if any, that is often triggered by Israeli military operations against Hamas and its smuggling tunnels. As a result of this war — which began in 2013, shortly after Sisi came to power, with the destruction of hundreds of smuggling tunnels along the border between Egypt and the Gaza Strip — Hamas and other armed groups are now more isolated than ever.

Avi Primor: Between two world wars— A hundred years ago, one of the most terrible wars the world has known was raging. For the first time in their history, the Jews — about a million and a half of them — actively took part in a war that belonged mainly in the Christian world. Some of them charged eagerly toward the front lines, volunteering to fight with zeal. In 1961, the German army, the Bundeswehr, published a book called “War Letters of Fallen German Jews.” Franz Josef Strauss, then West Germany’s defense minister, recognized the Jewish contribution to the war effort in the book’s preface: “These letters reveal a patriotism that has since been lost. More than this, the Jewish soldiers’ letters from the front exhibit a profound love of their homeland that nowadays is no longer understood.”

Anne Roiphe: Is Zionism Racism?— I am a person of the left and have been ever since I was a girl and Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers or maybe it began when the Rosenbergs were executed and I knew a great lynching had occurred or maybe it was the photos of Auschwitz that I saw in Life magazine that made it clear I was one of those inside the fence not those waving at passing trains. That is why today the phrase “Zionism is Racism” sends shivers down my spine and sets my teeth to grinding. Zionism is not about race. It is a nationalism. It makes a claim for the Jewish people that they are a folk like other folk and entitled to a land of their own just like the French have France and the English have England and the Bulgarians have Bulgaria. Nations have histories and the Jews have a history, long and eventful, rich in creative moments, overflowing with sorrowful memories, complete with documents, music, stories, language and also religion, and a religious memory of temples bygone and exiles endured and architecture described and columns buried in the soil and a millennium dream of return.

Aaron David Miller: Could Iran Deal Bring Israel-Arab Peace?— In the best of all possible worlds, Obama’s apparent success with Iran would open new paths to Arab-Israeli peace. But the Mideast is not the best of all possible worlds. Now that the Obama Administration believes it’s on its way to achieving an Iranian nuclear deal, what about the president’s and particularly Secretary of State John Kerry’s other key priority—Israeli-Palestinian peace? Having stood up to Congress, Israel and the pro-Israeli community on Iran, why not push full steam ahead on the two-state solution? Having been around the peace process a good number of years, I can say it’s foolish to say never. Like rock and roll, the peace process will never die. But that said, the odds that the Obama Administration will be able to build on an Iran deal and get to two states are pretty long ones. On the contrary the wreckage that negotiating and selling this deal may leave in its wake has only complicated that task.

SnyderTalk Comment: That’s an interesting thought.  It won’t be peace no matter what they call it.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Exodus 5

22 Then Moses returned to Yahweh and said, “O Lord, why have You brought harm to this people? Why did You ever send me? 23 Ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done harm to this people, and You have not delivered Your people at all.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Read His Name is Yahweh.

It’s obvious that Moses was confused.  He was doing exactly what Yahweh had told him to do, and things didn’t appear to be working out.

That’s a problem that believers have to contend with every day.  We think we know much more than we actually know.

Faith in Yahweh means following Him even when we don’t understand.

As you will see, Yahweh’s response to Moses was awesome.  It revealed what Yahweh was doing in a broad sense.

Delivering the Children of Israel from bondage in Egypt was only part of Yahweh’s plan.  It was an important part, to be sure, but it was just a part.

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important.  It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.  It’s also available for free in PDF format.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land. In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
