Rebecca Kaplan—Will ISIS plan a 9/11-style terror plot against the US?:

Republicans are sounding the warning that the next 9/11-like terror plot could emerge from the regions of Iraq and Syria that are currently dominated by an extremist group bearing down on Baghdad.

As the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) – which has already captured the cities of Tikrit and Mosul and is threatening to take the capital city as well – grows in strength and numbers, will it pose an immediate threat to the United States homeland as well?

Experts say the group’s increasing power and reach is concerning, though it’s not entirely clear when they might be able to threaten the U.S.

“You’ve got motivation mixed with opportunity, ideology and foreign fighters and all of that looks like a very extreme version of Afghanistan in the ’90s, plus what was happening in Iraq after the Iraq war,” said CBS News National Security Analyst Juan Zarate. “This is a cauldron of future terrorist threats to the west.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: The Kidnappers Came from the Palestinian Authority—Prime Minister Netanyahu said Sunday: Hamas terrorists carried out Thursday’s kidnapping of three Israeli teenagers. We know that for a fact. Hamas denials do not change this fact. Hamas is committed to the destruction of Israel and to carrying out terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians – including children. President Abbas has chosen to make Hamas his partner. Israel holds the Palestinian Authority and President Abbas responsible for any attacks against Israel that emanate from Palestinian-controlled territory. When an attack takes place in Tel Aviv or in London or in New York, the question is not where the attack takes place. The question is where it originated. The kidnappers in this case set out from territory controlled by the Palestinian Authority, and the PA cannot absolve itself of its responsibility.

Petra Marquardt-Bigman: Anti-Israel Activists Thrilled by Abduction of Israeli Teens— Shaped largely by its co-founder and “Executive Director” Ali Abunimah, The Electronic Intifada (EI) is described on its own website as an award-winning and widely recognized “news publication and educational resource focusing on Palestine.” While the site caters mainly to anti-Israel activists like proponents of BDS campaigns calling for boycotts against Israel, it is sometimes cited by well-placed journalists like Robert Mackey of the New York Times. Supposedly, the content offered by EI reflects “the commitment of its cofounders and editors to universal principles of human rights, international law, anti-racism and equal justice.” However, the EI does not hide that when it comes to Israel and its Jewish citizens as well as supporters of the Jewish state, these laudable principles are replaced by a truly Orwellian definition of antisemitism that reflects Abunimah’s preposterous view that “Zionism is one of the worst forms of anti-Semitism in existence today” and that support for Zionism “is not atonement for the Holocaust, but its continuation in spirit.”

Sherri Mandell: Don’t Blame the Victim—Some blame the victim: the boys should not have been living there, they should not have been hitchhiking, they should not have been out at night. The truth is, we see that violence against Jews can happen anywhere: Kansas City, Brussels or Toulouse. These boys are not to blame. It is the obligation of all good people to stand up right now and say that these boys are innocent victims of Palestinian hatred.

Oded Eran and Yoel Guzansky: The Collapse of Iraq: Strategic Implications— The fall of major Iraqi cities to Sunni extremists belonging to the Sunni group Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) may well have implications beyond the borders of Iraq. Indeed, all of Iraq’s neighbors, as well as the United States, have cause for major worry about the immediate and long term implications of the recent developments. Paradoxically, a coalition of sorts has formed comprising countries that have an interest in nipping the ISIS territorial entrenchment in the bud. While the United States will need to take the leading role, it must first take some decisions regarding the logic of providing the Iraqi army with advanced weaponry. The risk that advanced weapons will fall into the hands of irregular forces and be used immediately against the central government in Baghdad cannot be ignored.

Dr. Reuven Berko: Iraqi winds of Islamist chaos— The success of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (abbreviated “ISIS”) in chasing the Iraqi army out of the country’s southeastern cities, as well as its steady advance south toward Baghdad, has exposed the hollow vessel that is the United States’ Iraq strategy. ISIS fighters have shown their clearly superior combat skills fighting the conservative Iraqi army, which was trained by the U.S. according to the norms and ethical codes of earlier wars. A dangerous, contiguous territorial corridor has been established between Iraq and Syria, which connects Islamist territories in eastern Syria with most of Iraq’s south and west provinces. These territories have been conquered by terrorist Sunni groups, which, just like al-Qaida and its proxies, are bent on realizing the vision of a modern Islamic caliphate.

Max Boot: Getting Fooled by Iran in Iraq—The State Department spokesman claims that the U.S. and Iran have a “shared interest” in pushing back against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Is it really necessary to point out that letting Iranian forces dominate Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq is a win for Iran – not for the U.S.? It’s true that Iran doesn’t want to see ISIS or the Nusra Front, another al-Qaeda-affiliated group, dominate Iraq or Syria. But that’s because it would like to see those states dominated by its own proxies who are every bit as bad. The increasing Iranian prominence will only drive Sunnis, who constitute the region’s vast majority, into greater militancy. Do you honestly think Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE will stand by and watch Iran and its stalking horses take control of Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon? Not a chance. They will amp up their aid to ISIS and other Sunni extremist groups.

Uzi Dayan: Lessons of the Iraqi Chaos— What is the meaning of the chaos unfolding in Iraq? Two day after Mosul was overrun by the Salafi terror group the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, Tikrit — the birthplace of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and of the legendary Saladin — fell as well. Sunnis are now in control of areas stretching from the Iraqi capital of Baghdad to the Syrian city of Aleppo; and as the Iraqi military’s response falters, Kurdish forces have taken over Kirkuk. Washington has pledged its assistance, Turkey has called for an emergency NATO session, and according to media reports, Iran has dispatched a Revolutionary Guards force to aid the struggling Iraqi regime. The Middle East, it seems, has once again plunged into turmoil. This kind of regional uncertainty usually calls for exercising two rules: the first, be prepared to counter the enemy’s capabilities, not his intentions; and the second, vigilantly protect your strategic assets, especially your defensible borders.

Amir Taheri: The Mad Dream of a Dead Empire that Unites Islamic Rebels—They call themselves the Army of God and believe they should revive the Islamic Caliphate, the theocratic empire developed after the death of Prophet Mohammed in 632 A.D. To many Muslims, the abolition of the Ottoman Caliphate by Ataturk in 1924 is a deep historic wound that shall heal only when a new caliphate is set up to resume the ghazavat (wars of conquest) against the Infidel.

Michael Daly: ISIS Leader: “See You in New York”—When Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi walked away from a U.S. detention camp in 2009, the future leader of ISIS said, “I’ll see you guys in New York,” recalls Army Col. Kenneth King, then the commanding officer of Camp Bucca. King had not imagined that in less than five years he would be seeing news reports that al-Baghdadi was the leader of ISIS, the extremist army that was sweeping through Iraq toward Baghdad.

Simon Apfel: Movement of the people—JOHANNESBURG – The office is in pandemonium. Bearing a hunted expression, one of its habitants, busy on a call, begins gesticulating wildly as another two phones start to ring. Another types furiously with one hand while shoveling tuna into her mouth with the other. A bellow comes from the top of the stairs: “Anyone know how to speak Spanish?!” Someone makes a wisecrack but it goes unheeded. Seems nobody even heard it. No, this isn’t a scene from The Wire or a crack investigative unit plotting the fall of an international crime syndicate. These are the headquarters of the International Shabbos Project, an ambitious attempt to encourage all of world Jewry to observe one Shabbat in October. And it is from this unassuming Johannesburg office that a core team of around 20 personnel have, since February, been working around the clock, ironing out logistics, creating and refining marketing materials, growing partner networks and securing international celebrity endorsements for what is surely one of the most ambitious Jewish identity initiatives ever undertaken. The initiative comes on the heels of a smaller- scale “Shabbos Project” last year, spearheaded by South African Chief Rabbi Dr. Warren Goldstein, in which the vast majority of the country’s Jews ended up keeping the Shabbat of October 11-12 in its entirety. It was the first time for most of them.

SnyderTalk Comment: The Children of Israel includes Judah (i.e., Jews) and descendants of the other tribes of Israel that were scattered around the world.  Many of them, probably most of them, don’t realize that they are part of the family of Israel.  That’s important because Yahweh’s promises were made to and through Abraham’s descendants through Isaac and Jacob—the Children of Israel.  So this is the real question: What would happen if the Children of Israel joined hands and approached Yahweh together?

“Also I gave them My sabbaths to be a sign between Me and them, that they might know that I am Yahweh who sanctifies them.” (Ezekiel 20: 12)

SnyderTalk Comment: We could have had full employment years ago, and even now, we could have full employment within a matter of months if we only had a president who understood the economy and gave two hoots about the American people.  This president has three things on his mind: me, me, and me.  I’ve heard it said that Obama enjoys shaving more than anything else because he gets to look at himself in the mirror uninterrupted.  That may or may not be true, but it sounds plausible to me.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 10: 15-20

15 Canaan became the father of Sidon, his firstborn, and Heth 16 and the Jebusite and the Amorite and the Girgashite 17 and the Hivite and the Arkite and the Sinite 18 and the Arvadite and the Zemarite and the Hamathite; and afterward the families of the Canaanite were spread abroad. 19 The territory of the Canaanite extended from Sidon as you go toward Gerar, as far as Gaza; as you go toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha. 20 These are the sons of Ham, according to their families, according to their languages, by their lands, by their nations.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
