Algemeiner Staff—Obama, Kerry Talk to Israel ‘Mafia Style’:

The Obama administration’s penchant for predicting various woes that it says may befall Israel if a Palestinian state is not established is reminiscent of the famed Godfather movies, Algemeiner Editor Dovid Efune said on Monday in an interview on Real News TV.

“The way that they are talking to Israel is as if they are Don Corleone here, it’s a mafia style, its like, ‘We would hate for something terrible to happen to that nice little Jewish state you’ve got going on there,’” Efune said. “It’s like, look, ‘This is how we think things should go, but if they don’t, you are going to get violence, you are going to be accused of apartheid, you are going to get diplomatic isolation.”

In reality, he asserted, the threats don’t really exist.

“It’s an artificial threat that is being created by the administration to push the Israelis to the point where they have to make concessions,” he said.

Ronald S. Lauder: Mahmoud Abbas Gives the World a Moment of Clarity— Like many people around the world, I was dismayed when Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas embraced Hamas last week. This was one of those moments when people realize what’s really happening, and there is no question about it: Abbas has thrown in his lot with an organization whose main purpose is to destroy Israel. Many people have been critical of Israel and the peace process, but Abbas’ decision to forge a unity agreement with the terrorist regime in Gaza produced a moment of clarity. I met with Mahmoud Abbas two years ago, and he seemed sincere about making peace with Israel. But now, he has sent an entirely different signal and put the peace talks, which are so crucial for his people, into jeopardy.

Amir Taheri: Moving Beyond the “Peace Process”—In 1948 there was no Palestine problem; there was an Israel problem, in that the Arab League wouldn’t tolerate a Jewish state in its midst. Nor was the 1967 war about Palestine. Egypt’s Nasser, who started it, said the objective was “throwing the Jews into the sea.” At no point was creating a Palestinian state even considered. Nasser failed, and the new status quo favored Israel by widening its security perimeter – with territories taken from Egypt, Jordan and Syria, not from Palestine. The demand for a return to pre-1967 borders is bizarre, to say the least. In 1967 there were no borders, just ceasefire lines drawn in 1948 – lines that symbolized an unstable status quo that led to two wars. Going back to them means returning to a situation that breeds war, not peace. The “peace process” also ignores a fact well established in human history: Every war ends with a winner and a loser; the winner dictates the new status quo and the loser grudgingly accepts. Israel is perhaps the only winner to be prevented from even thinking about cashing its chips. Each time it won a war, the UN and other outsiders intervened to put the whole thing on a different trajectory.

Michael Curtis: The World Must Deal with Arab Apartheid— We all now know that Secretary of State John Kerry “misspoke” when, at a private, closed meeting in April 2014, he said that the State of Israel was at risk of becoming an “apartheid” state if it did not accept a two-state solution.  In order to make things perfectly clear, it was gracious of him to explain that Israel is not currently an apartheid state, nor does it intend to become one.  With this explanation, no one could possibly accuse him of harboring anti-Semitic sentiments. At the “misspoken” moment, the ill-advised Kerry must have found himself in questionable company.  He had inadvertently joined the usual suspects – Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Alice Walker, Jimmy Carter, and a host of biased bigots – who cannot refrain from categorizing Israel as a state that is hostile to the “oppressed” Palestinian people, if not to the entire world.

Lt.-Col. (ret.) Michael Segall: Iranian Strategy Feeds Off Perceived Western Weakness—With a further round of the nuclear talks between Iran and the West to be held in mid-May, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei continues to encourage the advancement of Iran’s nuclear program. While giving the talks a green light, he is at the forefront of pessimism about the chances of reaching a comprehensive agreement. Khamenei insisted that despite the ongoing talks, no R&D activity would be stopped or slowed down. He stressed that the main advantage of Iran’s nuclear program is the “strengthening of national security,” a surprising admission considering Iran’s insistence that its nuclear program is only for civilian purposes.

Soeren Kern: France Launches Anti-Jihadist Plan— The French government has unveiled a new plan aimed at preventing French citizens or residents from waging jihad in Syria and other conflict zones in the Muslim world. More than 700 French nationals and residents are now believed to be fighting in different parts of the Middle East and North Africa, including at least 500 in Syria alone, according to French intelligence estimates. Senior French officials have voiced increasing concern over the potential threat that these radicalized “enemies within” will pose when they return to France. The government has also faced criticism for failing to take steps to prevent its nationals from traveling to Syria in the first place.

Shiryn Ghermezian: Anti-Semitism in Latin America Explodes—Sammy Eppel, activist and director of The Commission for Human Rights at B’nai B’rith Venezuela, said on Monday that anti-Semitism in Latin America has significantly increased in recent years. “The problem is that there is big damage that has been done in the last 12, 10  years,” he said. “I was born in Venezuela and I lived there all my life and I never felt anti-Semitism from anybody… we were never discriminated and all of a sudden in 2004, it explodes.” Eppel made his comments as a panelist at a special conference held at the United Nations in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day. In 2006, he said, the Venezuelan Jewish community had to open an office and hire five professionals to monitor anti-Semitism in government and government-sponsored media.

Yiftah Shapir, Zvi Magen, and Gal Perel: MiG-35s for Egypt: A Veritable Change of Direction?— According to a number of media reports published in late April 2014, Egypt is soon to sign a large arms deal with Russia for the purchase of 24 MiG-35 fighter jets. If the arms deal is completed, it will represent a significant event in the Middle East strategic picture, another sign of reduced United States involvement in the region. For Russia, this would be a meaningful strategic achievement in its global struggle against the West. For Israel, one or two squadrons of aircraft such as the MiG-29 would not have much tactical significance. At the same time, the strategic significance could be decisive if the conflict between Russia and the West escalates and Russia gains an additional foothold in Egypt. However, the deal has not yet been signed, and there are many obstacles to its conclusion -technical, operational, economic, and most of all, political and strategic.

Rabbi Nechemia Coopersmith: The Gift of Israel— Seth Godin isn’t a rabbi, but the prolific author, entrepreneur and founder of permission marketing has a lot of insightful and inspiring points in his book Linchpin that overlap with Jewish wisdom. It was one of the best mussar shmoozes (inspirational talks) I’ve been privy to in a while.

Andrew Harrod: Rashid Khalidi’s False Narrative of Israeli History— Palestinian-American Columbia University professor Rashid Khalidi addressed America’s role in the Arab-Israeli peace process on April 17, 2014, at Washington, DC’s Jerusalem Fund, a pro-Palestinian think tank.  Describing Israel’s “entirely false narrative” into which “we have all been brainwashed,” Khalidi revealed his own myopia before an audience of about forty mostly likeminded, middle-aged people. John Halaka’s “Portraits of Denial and Despair” photo exhibit currently displayed in Jerusalem Fund hallways set a worrying ambience for Khalidi.  Amidst photo captions damning an Israeli “settler colonial state,” one photo montage shows Yasser Arafat’s former press secretary, Raeda Taha.  She grew up “in the shadow of a martyr,” a caption declares, a “symbol of the national struggle,” namely her pictured terrorist father Ali Taha, “killed in a hijacking operation he commanded.”

Katie Heaney: For Some The Earth Is Still Flat—A British man named Samuel Shenton, then in his early twenties, was doing research in the British Library at Bloomsbury when he came upon a book called Zetetic Astronomy: Earth Not a Globe. Published in 1881 by a man named Samuel Rowbotham, the gist of the 430-page book is summed up neatly by its subtitle: The Earth, Rowbotham proposed, is flat. Prior to the book’s publication, Rowbotham—the type of man to call himself “Parallax,” decide the Earth is flat, and take off on a journey to tell everyone about it—traveled around England in the mid-1800s, sharing his theories with the public. He became more convincing (relatively speaking) as he went; early on, Rowbotham reportedly onceran away from a lecture in Blackburn when he was asked, “Why, if the Earth is flat, do ships’ hulls disappear over the sea horizon before their masts?” But by the time Zetetic Astronomy was published, Rowbotham had gained some level of notoriety as well as a number of devoted followers.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 5: 6-14

6 Seth lived one hundred and five years, and became the father of Enosh. 7 Then Seth lived eight hundred and seven years after he became the father of Enosh, and he had other sons and daughters. 8 So all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years, and he died. 9 Enosh lived ninety years, and became the father of Kenan. 10 Then Enosh lived eight hundred and fifteen years after he became the father of Kenan, and he had other sons and daughters. 11 So all the days of Enosh were nine hundred and five years, and he died. 12 Kenan lived seventy years, and became the father of Mahalalel. 13 Then Kenan lived eight hundred and forty years after he became the father of Mahalalel, and he had other sons and daughters. 14 So all the days of Kenan were nine hundred and ten years, and he died.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
