Steve Apfel—The anti-Zionist Decree:

Contrary to the old wisdom about history – that it repeats itself – more often it moves in patterns. And where history goes, human progress, or regress, cannot be far behind. Look at the pattern followed by human rights. From the dawn of recorded history to the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and beyond, more rights have been recognized for more people in more conditions; so that today every living human is covered, notionally.

…Or nearly every human. In its opaque wisdom History ordained for one collective a different lot. Progressive rights were not for the Jews. Briefly consider how the powers of different epochs treated that people. Effectively the Greeks and Romans decreed, “You have no right to live among us as Jews.” After them came the Church: “You have no right to live among us.” And finally Hitler and the Nazi decree: “You have no right to live.”

Ben Caspit: Kerry’s artificial negotiations— “The danger of peace has been averted,” was the message that one of the Likud Party’s senior ministers texted on April 1 to some of his associates shortly after it became apparent that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas had submitted a request to be inducted into 15 UN bodies with a state status. Publicly, this minister actually backs Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and “supports” the two-state solution. Internally, however, this minister knows full well that anyone caught voting or supporting the compromises and proposals entertained by US Secretary of State John Kerry will pay a stiff price in the upcoming Likud primary.

Richard Baehr: The non-miracle worker— In the dumbed down world of American education, an A for effort often seems to matter more, and is now more regularly applauded, than an A for achievement. Today, failure or lack of achievement is routinely explained away as a result of discriminatory measurement or unequal preparation. Effort alone deserves its just rewards. Secretary of State John Kerry has worked hard on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process since he took office in 2013. But of course he has utterly failed, much like everyone before him who attempted to negotiate a peace agreement between the two parties. So, give him an A for effort.

Dan Margalit: Mistakes all around— Those in charge of the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations made every possible mistake on Wednesday. On Thursday, they were to meet again under the auspices of the U.S. Special Envoy for Israeli-Palestinian Negotiations Martin Indyk. The peace process can still be salvaged, but the talks have an even more uncertain fate. Negotiations are the lesser evil because a void would ultimately result in a violent confrontation, or as some would call it, an intifada.

Soeren Kern: European Dual-Use Exports to Iran Continue Apace— The illegal transfer of dual-use equipment to Iran continues unabated, due to lax enforcement and the failure of European governments to keep pace with the growing number and sophistication of actors involved in security-related trade with Tehran. “Iran continues to seek items for its prohibited activities from abroad by using multiple and increasingly complex procurement methods, including front companies, intermediaries, false documentation and new routes.” — Confidential U.N. Panel of Experts.

Yoram Schweitzer: Al-Qaeda’s Odyssey to the Global Jihad— 2013 marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of the founding of al-Qaeda and twelve years since the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in the United States. Despite the global counterterror campaign conducted against al-Qaeda, the organization and its affiliates are still responsible for the vast majority of terror attacks in the world. Moreover, along with their involvement in terrorist attacks, al-Qaeda and its affiliates exert much influence in the international system, far more than their numbers and military power suggest. This study explains how one terrorist organization, which at the height of its activity numbered a few hundred operatives, established a worldwide, highly influential phenomenon called the “global jihad movement” and succeeded, more than any other terrorist organization in modern history, in harming, harassing, and exhausting a hegemonic superpower and its allies and entangling them in bloody and costly military campaigns around the world.

Sara Debbie Gutfreund: Passover: Going Home Again— At this year’s TED conference, the rock star Sting gave a moving presentation about how he overcame a creative block that surprised him in middle age. Suddenly, he was unable to write any new songs and the drought of ideas continued for weeks, months and then years. But then he began thinking about his childhood in the north of England; he had grown up on a street that led down to a huge shipyard. When Sting revisited the places and people of his childhood in his mind, his creativity was re-ignited. At TED, he sang some of the songs born out of his trip back in time. He sang about the personalities he remembers and how badly he had wanted to escape a life stuck in that shipyard. The songs are featured in his musical “The Last Ship” which will arrive on Broadway this fall.

Sharona Schwartz: Israeli Source Says Syria Used Chemical Weapons Again— Government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad used nonlethal chemical weapons just weeks ago, an unnamed Israeli security source has told the Israeli media. The Jerusalem Post reported that the source confirmed claims made by the Syrian opposition last month that a chemical substance had been used on rebels in Harasta, a suburb of Damascus. The chemical agent was used to incapacitate the rebel fighters, not kill them, the Times of Israel reported, also quoting an unnamed senior Israeli defense official.

Robert H. Book: An Open Letter to French Jewry: You Are Not Alone— On March 27, 2014, I saw the picture of “David,” a 59-year-old Hebrew School teacher who resides in France. He was viciously beaten by three Arabs aka “North Africans,” for no reason other than David is Jewish and he was coming out of a kosher restaurant in a Jewish neighborhood in Paris. These three cowards attacked David and if that is not horrible enough, they held him down and drew the Nazi swastika on his chest. What does that say about these three Muslims living in France?

Sever Plocker: Moscow and Ramallah: The new alliance— Last week, the Palestinian Authority halted (until further notice) the talks with Israel and the United States. That is the proper definition for the decisions made by the Palestinian political echelon, which led to a deadlock in the negotiations. The Netanyahu government did play for time and stutter in response to the initiatives of American Secretary of State John Kerry, but (most of the government) did not want to stop talking – if only because talking prevents another intifada-style popular outburst. And also because the Americans asked us to, both nicely and not nicely.

Jay Bergman: An Open Letter to Brandeis President Frederick Lawrence— The decision of Brandeis University not to award an honorary degree to Ayaan Hirsi Ali, after first announcing that it would do so, is disgraceful. The cowardice it reflects contrasts sharply with the courage Ms. Ali has shown in condemning aspects of Islam that she rightly considers cruel, bigoted, and misogynistic, and for which she has suffered grievously. It is yet another example of how arrogant, closed-minded faculty, and students who believe they can prohibit anything on campus that makes them uncomfortable, can intimidate administrators such as yourself to the point where one of the principles essential to higher education — a tolerance of opinions with which one disagrees — is dispensed with in the name of preserving “a welcoming environment.”  But the very essence of education is being challenged intellectually, and if students cannot endure the discomfort that that often induces, they have no business attending a college or university.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 1: 6-8

Then God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so. God called the expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
