Brendan O’Neill—Israelis don’t care that we hate them. But they’d like to know why:

Talking to Israelis feels a bit like talking to fans of Millwall FC. ‘No one likes us, we don’t care,’ sing Millwall fans. Israel is the undoubted Millwall of global affairs, loathed by almost every Westerner who considers himself decent and they’ve adopted a similar cri de coeur. ‘Europe doesn’t like us. Americans do not like us. We can live with this,’ says a kippah-wearing guy at the Western Wall. He sums up a sentiment I hear across this country.

If you were in Iran or North Korea, long-time chart-toppers in the international community’s gallery of rogue states, you wouldn’t bat an eyelid when a citizen expressed disgruntlement with the wicked West. But Israel? This tiny nation was for so long the West’s best bud in the Middle East; a bright democratic outpost in an otherwise autocratic desert. To hear Israelis speak ill of the West, to see them raise their eyes to the heavens at every mention of the United Nations or the European Union, feels weird.

Everywhere I go, people wonder out loud why the West, especially Europe’s chattering classes, hates them so. Israel is being treated like a ‘pariah state’, says Uri Dromi, executive director of the Jerusalem Press Club and former spokesman for the Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres governments.

Sean Savage: U.S., U.K., Netherlands fund anti-Israel ‘Christ at the Checkpoint’ conference— The U.S., U.K., and Dutch governments are helping to fund a conference called “Christ at the Checkpoint,” which attempts to sway Evangelical Christian opinion against Israel and whose themes have anti-Semitic undertones, according to a new report issued by the Jerusalem-based watchdog group NGO Monitor. The report titled “Christ at the Checkpoint: How the U.S., U.K. and Dutch Governments Enable Religious Strife and Foment Mideast Conflict,” first obtained by JNS.org, examines how the American and European governments are directly and indirectly funding the conference.

Louis Rene Beres: Palestinian statehood and terror: Obligations of int’l law— Following Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s March 2014 meetings with US President Barack Obama, Israel remains on track to continue with its planned schedule of concessions to Palestinian statehood. Apart from the inherently dangerous nature of these concessions, which include a further release of assorted terrorists with blood on their hands, Israel’s position on this matter also flouts humanitarian international law. More precisely, by conspicuously rewarding Palestinian insurgent forces that have repeatedly defiled basic obligations of the law of armed conflict, Jerusalem – with Washington’s energetic complicity – effectively supports the continuance of Arab terror-violence. In law, there is nothing to uphold the shallow mantra of “by any means necessary.” This conveniently ritualistic slogan is just as barren of authentic jurisprudential meaning as the oft-mumbled phrase, “One man’s terrorist is another man’s freedom fighter.” Significantly, neither statement is conceivably defensible in law.

Dan Margalit: No permanent solutions— The strength of the Israel Defense Forces’ strike on Islamic Jihad was determined on Wednesday according to the parameters of Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon’s perception, because there are no permanent solutions to the violent conflict in the Middle East, and all that can be done is “crisis management.” In his eyes, it is up to Israel to determine what would be the best outcome of a given situation, nothing more — and if possible, nothing less. This is the case in the diplomatic arena and in military clashes.

Robert Spencer: Leftist Press Frets: Jihad Truth-Tellers ‘Still Popular’— A smear campaign of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) recently failed to get former FBI agent John Guandolo’s training course for law enforcement officers canceled in Culpeper County, Virginia. Religion News Service ran an editorial masquerading as a news story that the Washington Post picked up, attempting to ensure that this effrontery would not be repeated.

The Voice of Russia: Russia is strong enough not to worry about Georgia joining NATO – analysts— This coming autumn, NATO will again open doors for Georgia, although experts believe that neither Brussels, nor Tbilisi, nor the North Caucasus will stand to gain. Georgia will most likely be granted access to the NATO Membership Action Plan, MAP, during the NATO-Georgia summit in September. Experts believe the situation in Ukraine has prompted the alliance to act quickly, so now NATO is prepared for more resolute action in Eastern Europe than before.

Christine Williams: Multiculturalism: What Happened to Responsibility?— Far too many interfaith cultural dialogue sessions have focused on the appeasement of immigrant groups while ignoring human rights abuses from their foreign countries of origin; abuses which many immigrants have accepted as the norm and often seek to protect in an effort to sustain the dignity of their group identity. “This loathsome term [Islamophobia] is nothing more than a thought-terminating cliché, conceived in the bowels of Muslim think tanks for the purpose of beating down critics.” — Abdur-Rahan Muhammed, former member of the International Institute for Islamic Thought. The real answer lies in the recognition that multiculturalism to promote equality was enshrined in the UN Declaration of Human Rights … it has provided a sound definition of values, which Western nations need to be unapologetic in advancing.

Dmitriy Shapiro: Assessing the U.N.’s Candidates to Replace Richard Falk, Frequent Critic of Israel—While meeting in Geneva for its annual spring session from March 3-28, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) will be deciding on a replacement for Richard Falk, the body’s special rapporteur on Palestinian human rights who has a history of anti-Israel bias. U.N. watchdog groups, the United States, and Israel are closely monitoring the selection process. The applicant list has recently been reduced by the vetting committee from 10 to three, with the candidates perceived as being the most biased against Israel now out of the running, according to UN Watch. The council president, currently Baudelaire Ndong Ella of the Gabonese Republic, will select one of the candidates to be put for a vote in front of the entire council later this month.

Nadav Shragai: The long arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard— Kfir Rosen heard the reports last week about the capture of the weapons ship Klos C and his heart muscles immediately expanded. He was listening to the commentators describe the capabilities of the M-302 missiles that were discovered underneath the large bags of cement stashed in the belly of the ship. Then, in one fell swoop, he flashed back in his mind to the images, the sounds, the smell, and the awful quiet which ensued following the direct hit his apartment in Rishon Lezion sustained when a Fajr-5 missile exploded inside it one day in November 2012.

Eli Verschleiser: Black-and-White Boycotts Defy a Technicolor Middle East—The world is never black and white, and it is this binary, zero-sum thinking that perpetuates the Israeli-Palestinian impasse in the Middle East.

Yoram Ettinger: Purim Guide for the Perplexed, 2014—1.  Purim’s Scroll of Esther represents fundamental tenets of Judaism:

  • Faith in God, in contrast to idolatry and cynicism;
  • Value/principle-driven realism (right vs. wrong and civil liberties), in contrast to opportunism and wishful-thinking;
  • Attachment to roots (religious, cultural, historical), in contrast to detachment;
  • Optimism confidence and courage, in contrast to fatalism, despair and fear;
  • Tenacious defiance of enormous adversity, in contrast to defeatism, submission, and accommodation;
  • Community-driven responsibility, in contrast to selfishness/recklessness.

Official: Malaysian investigators conclude missing airliner hijacked

SnyderTalk Comment: If the Malaysian airliner was hijacked, then the question is “why?”  There can be only a few logical explanations and only two of them have real merit: 1) someone wanted to steal the cargo or 2) someone or some group wanted an airplane for use at some later date.

I think that it’s fair to assume that the passengers and crew are dead at this point.  They would have no value to hijackers.  In fact, they would be liabilities and their eyewitness testimony could be devastating if they were ever able to testify.  Eliminating them would make perfect sense from the hijackers’ perspective.

If the plane was carrying valuable cargo, I think that it’s reasonable to assume that we would have heard about that fact by now.  Since no one has mentioned the cargo to date, it makes sense that the cargo wasn’t the reason for the hijacking.  The plane’s cargo may turn out to be important, but there is no evidence supporting that hypothesis yet.

That leaves only the plane itself.  I suspect that the missing plane will suddenly reappear at some future date, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we all have the opportunity to see it fly into some prominent building or a monument that has spiritual significance to some group.  If what I am suggesting is correct, it will be used in a 9/11-style attack that is designed to evoke terror across the globe.

Interestingly, hijacking and hiding a large airliner would require the involvement of a government or governments or government officials acting independently.  That’s worth considering. Who might they be and what would be their objectives.

Of course, I’m only speculating, and my hypotheses hinge on the Malaysian airliner actually being hijacked.  Time will reveal the truth.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Zechariah 12: 10-14

“I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him like the bitter weeping over a firstborn. In that day there will be great mourning in Jerusalem, like the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the plain of Megiddo. The land will mourn, every family by itself; the family of the house of David by itself and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Nathan by itself and their wives by themselves; the family of the house of Levi by itself and their wives by themselves; the family of the Shimeites by itself and their wives by themselves; all the families that remain, every family by itself and their wives by themselves.”

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
