Douglas Murray—Blow People Up? What a Surprise!:

How could a nice young British boy do a thing like this? That is what people said when a British man cut the head off Daniel Pearl in 2002. It was what they said when our British men boarded the London tube trains and blew up their fellow passengers in 2005. It was what they said when a young British student tried to detonate a bomb over Detroit in 2009. And it is what they asked again earlier this month when Abdul Waheed Majeed, a 41-year-old man from Crawley, West Sussex, turned out to have become a suicide bomber in Syria. The strange thing is that a lot of people seem no closer to any kind of answer.

Abdul Waheed Majeed had gone through a story so similar to every previous story that you wonder how wilfully deaf some people must be, or whether there has been a significant section of the press and political class who have simply not been paying attention in recent years.

Because it turns out that Majeed was once a member of the now-proscribed British extremist group, al-Muhajiroun. This is a group that has been linked to more terrorist charges in the UK than any other group, including al-Qaeda. Al Muhajiroun’s current de facto leader (since being banned, they operate under a shifting array of names) – Anjem Choudary – has said that Majeed worked as a driver for the former leader of the group, Omar Bakri Mohammad, by helping ferry him to and from his talks. Alas in those days he seems never to have had the urge to blow up the vehicle.

Barry Shaw: Original Thinking: No going back—You know what the one major problem would be should Israel foolishly agree to surrender territory to an aggressive new Palestinian state? There is no going back. The world will never allow Israel to reconquer any territory. Why should Israel give in to international pressure without a guaranteed right to regain land if it is attacked from the territory it gives away? Mark Langfan, expert on national security, has not been able to get a proper answer from any of Israel’s top national security experts to the “what ifs” of a peace deal with the Palestinians.

Investor’s Business Daily Editorial: Kerry’s Global Warning WMD Comparison Warrants Firing— Foreign Policy: John Kerry calls global warming “the world’s most fearsome weapon of mass destruction.” Has the secretary of state forgotten the world’s real WMDs? Or is he just off his medication? There’s a long list of Cabinet secretaries and senior aides to President Obama who have failed the nation so resoundingly they should be shown the door.

Boaz Bismuth: Same truth, different speaker— In December, U.S. President Barack Obama put the odds of reaching a nuclear deal with Iran at 50 percent, despite the euphoria around the world and within his administration after the interim deal was sealed in Geneva. In Vienna on Tuesday, negotiations between Iran and the superpowers resumed, and this time the talks are focusing on a final status agreement. The 50% Obama gave in December is high in comparison with the 0% chance of success given by his former adviser on weapons of mass destruction and Iran’s nuclear arsenal, Gary Samore, who has also participated in the negotiations. While officials in Jerusalem have already said it, they have been treated like a bunch of naysayers. Perhaps today people will understand why Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, back in September, refused to fall for Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s charming smiles at the U.N. General Assembly.

Yossi Ben-Aharon: Dangers of the Palestinian state— We recently learned that shortly before he was deposed, Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi contacted al-Qaida and promised to help the terror group set up a base of operations in Sinai. Had Morsi remained in power, the Israel-Egypt border would have become an extension of the Gaza Strip and our peace treaty with Egypt would have gone up in smoke.

Ray Takeyh: The U.S. Undercuts Its Own Power in Iran Nuclear Talks—In the nuclear talks with Iran, the U.S. is not dealing with the Soviet Union but a beleaguered middling power that may still be coerced into more expansive concessions. A close reading of Iran’s political scene reveals that Ayatollah Khamenei’s most important red line has not been on the nuclear issue but on preventing moderates from regaining political power. Given the disparity of power between the U.S. and Iran, Washington has an opportunity to craft a durable accord for arms control while preserving its coercive leverage. Such are the advantages of being a superpower with the world’s largest economy and intact alliances. But for that to happen, the U.S. must stop underestimating its power and overestimating its adversary’s resilience.

Jeffrey Goldberg: Obama Weapons Expert: No Chance of Success with Iran—Gary Samore, who was until recently the Obama administration’s top expert on weapons of mass destruction, says the Iran nuclear talks have an almost zero chance of success because the West has given the Iranian regime insufficient cause to feel as if it must give up its nuclear dreams.

Jonathan D. Halevi: The Impending Clash between Iran and Saudi Arabia—In 1987, Ayatollah Khomeini declared that Mecca was in the hands of a “band of heretics.” For the current Iranian leadership, Khomeini’s remarks remain authoritative and frame the way Iran views Saudi Arabia. In January 2014, Frederic Hof, a former adviser to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, disclosed during a congressional hearing that he heard from the Iranians that they viewed Saudi Arabia as their primary enemy, and not the U.S. or even Israel. In Riyadh’s eyes, Iran remains the most serious security challenge to the stability and territorial integrity of the Saudi kingdom. Saudi Arabia is preparing to purchase an atomic bomb “off the shelf” from Pakistan in order to create deterrence against Iran. Iran’s determination to persist with its nuclear program and the Saudi determination to acquire a nuclear shield may drag the Middle East into a nuclear arms race.

NGO Monitor: EU Funds Promotion of the Palestinian Political Narrative—One of the EU’s major financial assistance programs is the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR), whose program objectives are to provide “support for the promotion of democracy and human rights.” For the years 2007-2010, projects that address Israel and the Palestinians received ?11,472,593 in EIDHR grants. The majority of these grants support NGOs that adopt and promote the Palestinian political narrative and engage in political warfare campaigns against Israel.

Daria Solovieva: Terrorists Target Egypt’s Red Sea Tourism — And It’s Working— When a yellow tourist bus full of South Korean pilgrims traveling from St. Catherine’s Monastery to Israel exploded on Sunday in Taba, near the Israeli border, at least four people were killed and 17 wounded. Beyond that personal tragedy, the terrorist attack could be the death knell of Red Sea tourism in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula. According to Egyptian interior ministry spokesman Hani Abdel-Latif, a suicide bomber pushed himself inside the bus and detonated the explosives. It was the first time that jihadists’ attacks have targeted Sinai tourists, but the tourism industry was already reeling due to previous attacks on military and security targets.

Arsen Ostrovsky: Combatting anti-Semitism in Europe— Last week, Jerusalem and Diaspora Affairs Ministry released a report titled “Anti-Semitism in 2013: Trends and Events.” Yet, there was barely a scarce mention about it in the media and Jewish community, perhaps because this was the umpteenth report released in recent times about the state of anti-Semitism around the world, and in particular in Europe.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Zechariah 7: 1-7

In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, which is Chislev. Now the town of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regemmelech and their men to seek the favor of Yahweh, speaking to the priests who belong to the house of Yahweh Sabaoth, and to the prophets, saying, “Shall I weep in the fifth month and abstain, as I have done these many years?” Then the word of Yahweh Sabaoth came to me, saying, “Say to all the people of the land and to the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months these seventy years, was it actually for Me that you fasted? When you eat and drink, do you not eat for yourselves and do you not drink for yourselves? Are not these the words which Yahweh proclaimed by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and prosperous along with its cities around it, and the Negev and the foothills were inhabited?’”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
