Caroline Glick—The truth hurts:

To hear it from the White House, and from Israel’s leftist media, Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon is a major liability. As half the planet now knows, Ya’alon is harshly critical of US Secretary of State John Kerry’s persistent efforts to force Israel to surrender its land and ability to defend itself to the PLO.

In a private conversation that Ya’alon did not expect to be made public, he criticized Kerry’s so-called security plan that offers Israel advanced technology in exchange for PLO control over its eastern border. Ya’alon also rejected the notion that the PLO is interested in making peace. And he stated the inconvenient fact that PLO chief Mahmoud Abbas is only in power because Israel has security control over Judea and Samaria.

Ya’alon also said, again in a private conversation, that Kerry’s razor-sharp focus on Israel and the PLO owes to an “incomprehensible obsession,” and that by neurotically pushing for a deal that has no chance of being concluded or achieving peace, Kerry is exhibiting “messianic” character traits.

Ya’alon’s private statements about Kerry were no harsher than public statements that the Saudis have made regarding the Obama administration’s regional policies. Last November, journalist Jeffrey Goldberg interviewed Saudi Prince Alaweed bin Talal. According to Goldberg, the Saudi royal attacked US President Barack Obama “with a directness that would make Benjamin Netanyahu blush.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Caroline Glick is absolutely correct.  I wish that more Israeli leaders would speak up the way Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon did and defy the politicians in Washington who are pushing Israel to make a suicidal deal for selfish personal reasons—primarily more fame and fortune for themselves.  Since most of our political “leaders”, including President Obama and Secretary Kerry, have already amassed vast fortunes, they are primarily interested in fame.  Regrettably for them and for us, their lust for fame is likely to produce infamy instead, and the people of the United States will suffer because of their miscalculations.

Obama wants desperately to show the world that he deserves his Nobel Peace Prize and to demonstrate that he has presidential mettle—both herculean feats that he won’t achieve.  John Kerry wants a Nobel Peace Prize and he’ll do anything to get one.  I believe that Obama and Kerry could care less about Israel despite what they say for public consumption.  Furthermore, it’s painfully obvious that they have left Yahweh out of their thinking completely.  Accordingly, they are in the process of unleashing forces that they don’t understand and can’t control.

The Israeli people are the losers in the short-run.  In the long-run, however, they will win because they have Yahweh’s promises to rely on.  His word means far more to Israel than anything the United States can offer.

13--Perspectives 2

Jonathan S. Tobin: Palestinian Incitement and the Endless War— Last week, the Israeli government sought to focus the world’s attention on one of the chief obstacles to peace in the Middle East: Palestinian incitement aimed at fomenting hatred of the Jewish state and the Jewish people. The report detailed the way the Palestinian Authority uses its official media, school textbooks, as well as the influence of many of its leaders to reinforce the notion that Israel has no right to exist as a Jewish state irrespective of its borders. The hate that is routinely broadcast on Palestinian television, published in its newspapers, or taught in schools seeks to demonize Jews and inculcate the notion that they are evil and have no rights to any part of the country. In doing so, the PA—which is supposed to be Israel’s partner for peace—doesn’t merely exacerbate an already tense situation but also sows the seeds of future conflict by teaching new generations to hate their Jewish neighbors.

Maher Abukhater: Palestinian Authority official criticizes peace talks under Kerry— A senior Palestinian Authority official said Thursday that U.S. Secretary of State John F. Kerry has slowed peace talks by emphasizing Israeli concerns and security issues in the Jordan Valley of the West Bank. The United States and Israel seem determined to discuss Israel as a Jewish state and security arrangements before anything else, Nabil Shaath, a senior member of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’ Fatah party, told journalists at his Ramallah office. Shaath, an aide to Abbas who is not a peace talks negotiator, said negotiations should deal with borders. “When we agree on borders, we will discuss security arrangements on these borders,” he said, adding that Israel and the U.S. seem to have bought into an approach of “Let’s discuss security arrangements first, then we will discuss borders.”

Ted Belman: The Two-State Solution is Dead— The Two-State Solution is dead. All that remains is for the U.S. to declare it so. Palestinians leaders and Israeli leaders have made it clear. In a speech on Jan 10/14, Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas made it crystal clear that he would never abandon the “right of return”, would never recognize Israel as a Jewish state and would never make a deal unless East Jerusalem was given to the Palestinians as their capital, all of which cross Israel’s red lines.

Margery Eagan: Papal silence on abuse speaks volumes—Here’s the great paradox of Pope Francis. His sincere and humble outreach to the poor and marginalized has inspired millions. Yet his embrace hasn’t extended to the very group his fellow priests, and the church itself, tormented by their crimes and cover-up: survivors of clergy sex abuse. And the news that the Vatican has defrocked 400 priest abusers over the past two years changed nothing. It was Francis’ predecessor, Pope Benedict, who defrocked them. We’re still waiting to see if Francis finally brings to justice the priests and the bishops who covered for them.

Karen DeYoung and William Booth: Sharp response to Israeli official’s criticism of Kerry and peace process—The State Department responded with unusual sharpness Tuesday to remarks by Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon, who characterized Secretary of State John F. Kerry’s efforts to shepherd Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations as “misplaced obsession and messianic fervor.” In remarks that Yaalon’s office later said he believed were off the record, he reportedly told the Israeli daily Yediot Ahronot that Kerry “cannot teach me anything about the conflict with the Palestinians.” A security plan for Israel drawn up by retired U.S. Gen. John Allen as part of Kerry’s peace proposals “is not worth the paper it’s written on,” the paper quoted Yaalon as saying.

Sudhanshu Tripathi: An Emerging Russia-Iran-Syria Axis?— Inflaming the West’s longstanding suspicions of an emerging Moscow-Damascus-Teheran axis, the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Syria, and Iran held an unprecedented trilateral meeting in Moscow to fine-tune their positions ahead of Syrian peace talks (Geneva-2, scheduled to commence on January 22). The three ministers discussed the situation in Syria and the region in the context of preparations for the peace talks as they shared “common positions” on the Syrian crisis, said the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, while emphatically denying the West’s charges of having any “hidden agenda” or a “trilateral project.”

Daniel Pipes: Has Iran Gained a Foothold in the Arabian Peninsula?— According to a sensational report by Awad Mustafa in Defense News, not only has Tehran signed an agreement with the United Arab Emirates over three disputed islands in the Persian Gulf, near the Strait of Hormuz, but it has also reached a possibly even more important accord with the government of Oman. Both of these agreements have vast implications for the oil trade, the world economy, and Iranian influence. According an unnamed “high level UAE source,” secretive talks taking place over six months led to a deal on the islands, the Greater and Lesser Tunbs, finalized on December 24: “For now, two of the three islands are to return to the UAE while the final agreement for Abu Musa [the third island] is being ironed out. Iran will retain the sea bed rights around the three islands while the UAE will hold sovereignty over the land.”

Daniel Greenfield: What Churchill Would Make of Obama’s Iran Appeasement— In the fall of ’38, the motion was submitted to approve the government’s policy “by which war was averted in the recent crisis and supports their efforts to secure a lasting peace.” The policy was the carving up of Czechoslovakia and the war being averted was World War II. Of that, Winston Churchill said, “Britain and France had to choose between war and dishonour. They chose dishonour. They will have war.”

Abraham Foxman: ‘Aftermath:’ A Riveting Portrayal of Polish Anti-Semitism— After Germany itself, no country has been more scrutinized for its behavior during the Holocaust than Poland.  This is understandable considering the fact that 3 million Jews lived in Poland and the fact that the largest death camps were in Poland. Sometimes, however, this scrutiny takes awkward turns. From time to time one hears references to the “Polish” camps, and it is necessary to set the record straight: these were German camps located in occupied Poland.

Washington Post Editorial: Syria peace conference faces long odds— SECRETARY OF State John F. Kerry did not seem to be persuading even himself Thursday when he delivered a statement beseeching the Western-backed Syrian Opposition Coalition to participate in a peace conference in Switzerland beginning Wednesday. Rejecting any “revisionism” about the purpose of the meeting, Mr. Kerry insisted that what is called Geneva 2 “is about establishing a process essential to the formation of a transition government body” to replace the regime of Bashar al-Assad — who, according to Mr. Kerry, would be excluded from the transition. Mr. Kerry may have believed his declaration was necessary to prevent his much-promoted initiative on Syria from collapsing before it could get underway. Yet even if the opposition coalition votes to attend the meeting in Montreux — its deliberations were underway as this page went to press — there appears to be no chance that the outcome the secretary of state described as the gathering’s “sole purpose” will come about in the foreseeable future.

Zephaniah 2: 4-5

For Gaza will be abandoned and Ashkelon a desolation; Ashdod will be driven out at noon and Ekron will be uprooted. Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast, the nation of the Cherethites! The word of Yahweh is against you, O Canaan, land of the Philistines; and I will destroy you so that there will be no inhabitant.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
