Hamza Hendawi—Egypt violence brings surge in attacks on churches:

After torching a Franciscan school, Islamists paraded three nuns on the streets like “prisoners of war” before a Muslim woman offered them refuge. Two other women working at the school were sexually harassed and abused as they fought their way through a mob.

In the four days since security forces cleared two sit-in camps by supporters of Egypt’s ousted president, Islamists have attacked dozens of Coptic churches along with homes and businesses owned by the Christian minority. The campaign of intimidation appears to be a warning to Christians outside Cairo to stand down from political activism.

Christians have long suffered from discrimination and violence in Muslim majority Egypt, where they make up 10 percent of the population of 90 million. Attacks increased after the Islamists rose to power in the wake of the 2011 Arab Spring uprising that drove Hosni Mubarak from power, emboldening extremists. But Christians have come further under fire since President Mohammed Morsi was ousted on July 3, sparking a wave of Islamist anger led by Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood.

Nearly 40 churches have been looted and torched, while 23 others have been attacked and heavily damaged since Wednesday, when chaos erupted after Egypt’s military-backed interim administration moved in to clear two camps packed with protesters calling for Morsi’s reinstatement, killing scores of protesters and sparking deadly clashes nationwide.

Emily Amrousi: Double standard, zero justice— Terror continues to exact more victims and more grief. Every rock that sinks to the bottom leaves behind circles upon circles of pain.

Kenneth Stein: The History of the Two-State Concept— The two-state solution is the most widely endorsed diplomatic idea for Israeli-Palestinian peace since the passage of UN Resolution 242 in November 1967. That resolution, which became the basis for future Arab-Israeli negotiations, enshrined the idea of acknowledging “the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of every state in the area and their right to live in peace within secure and recognized boundaries free from threats or acts of force.”

Anav Silverman: Downplaying Hamas is a Critical Mistake in Peace Talks— Before Israel released 26 Palestinian security prisoners on Tuesday night, Gaza based terror group Hamas held a press conference where it reiterated the movement’s blatant rejection of the current Washington-led peace negotiations. At the Gaza press conference on Monday, Hamas declared that Mahmoud Abbas and his team of negotiators “do not have the right to give up any part of the land of Palestine or any of the people’s rights.”

Victor Sharpe: Arabs Offer Israel Peace: The Peace of the Grave— Remember the Roadmap that Condoleezza Rice and President Bush had earlier forced upon Israel? Well it is still alive and the Obama regime and the Quartet continue imposing what history will recall as an insane repetition of failed policies. The endless concessions, imposed only upon Israel, known by the morally bankrupt euphemisms of “land for peace” or “risks for peace,” and the “Two-State Solution” guarantee endless war against Israel. That is what the road map is; a veritable cul de sac of death for the Jewish state.

Udi Dekel and Orit Perlov: Three Palestinian Identities Seen on Social Networks—An estimated one-third of Palestinian society today are active users of social networks on the Internet. Although there is a common Palestinian identity, the geographic separation between Gaza, the West Bank, and east Jerusalem is echoed by differences in lifestyle, outlook, and ideology. Gaza is oriented toward Egypt and influenced by events there. The Arab residents of east Jerusalem conduct themselves in an Israeli context and are influenced by the discourse among Israeli Arabs, taking little interest in the discourse in the West Bank and Gaza. In the West Bank, the Arabs are influenced by what is happening in Jordan.

Zalman Shoval: The Obstacle of Land Swaps—As negotiations between Palestinian and Israeli representatives began this week, the idea of “land swaps” is sometimes seen as a key to resolving the problem of borders. However, it’s doubtful whether the proposal can be justified either morally or in principle. It would mark the first time in history that the aggressor would be compensated for a loss of territory by receiving land from the victim of its aggression. People have forgotten how the war in 1967 transpired, who attacked whom, and why Israel, in a defensive war, captured territories from its aggressors. Those who worded UN Resolution 242 were well aware of the facts, which is why they opposed an Israeli retreat to the ’67 lines.

Richard Baehr: Norwegian logic— Normal people, of course, slit the throats of infants, drive a bus filled with children off a cliff, and blow up restaurants, buses, schools and airplanes, as part of their “freedom fighting.”

Harold Rhode: The Sunni Divide—Arabic-speaking Sunnis may loathe Syria’s Assad, but they also hate each other. There are many divisions among the Sunni Islamists and they are spending a lot of effort, not only killing the regime’s forces, but also killing fellow Sunnis. Qatar and Saudi Arabia passionately hate each other and support different groups within the Islamic opposition groups in Syria. The Qataris, along with the now only nominally secular Turkish Republic, support the Muslim Brotherhood. The Saudis support Salafi fundamentalists.

Col. (ret.) Dr. Jacques Neriah: The Kurdish Awakening in Syria: Could It Lead to Regional War?—Political groups from Syria’s Kurdish minority have moved decisively to claim control of Kurdish-populated areas. Yet the Kurds have faced resistance from the jihadist groups Jabhat al-Nusra and the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. In response, the president of Iraqi Kurdistan, Massoud Barzani, threatened to intervene on behalf of Syrian Kurds. Iranian Kurds also announced that they were ready for battle.

Michael Young: Will Syria and Iraq Break Apart?—Since independence, Arab states have been dysfunctional, authoritarian, over-militarized and economically underdeveloped. Unity has been imposed from above, usually brutally, with no tolerance for dissent, whether political or cultural.

4--Scripture of the Day USE THIS ONE

The scripture below is from the New American Standard Bible, and the hyperlinks associated with each word are from Strong’s Concordance for the New American Standard Bible.

Hosea 12: 12-14

Now Jacob fled to the land of Aram, and Israel worked for a wife, and for a wife he kept [sheep]. But by a prophet Yahweh brought Israel from Egypt, and by a prophet he was kept. Ephraim has provoked to bitter anger; so his Lord will leave his bloodguilt on him and bring back his reproach to him.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
