Dovid Efune—American Support for Convict Release Betrays Ulterior Motive:

By cajoling Israel to release 104 convicted Arab terrorists, beginning this week, as a “gesture of goodwill” to the Palestinian Authority as peace talks are set to resume, the United States has revealed that its motive in backing the talks is less about peace and more about placating the Arab states and Israel’s enemies around the globe.

There is no single issue that is more detrimental to the cause of peace than the glorification of terror, and by pushing for the release, US Secretary of State John Kerry personally has a hand in the orgy of celebration over the murder of Jews that will necessarily follow.

If it is reconciliation that Kerry is truly seeking, the Americans would have been the first to slap down PA President Abbas’ depraved request as immoral and destructive to the cause of peace.

Of course the Americans claim that because of Abbas’ domestic political weakness, releasing the convicts is a strategy to strengthen his rule, which they argue, is better than the alternative scenario whereby he is ousted by rival terror group Hamas.

But here is the point. Abbas’ weakness is of his own doing. For years ministries and operatives under his command have glorified terrorism and nurtured Palestinian Arab children in the ways of hate and violence.

Jonathan S. Tobin: Why Does the Muslim Brotherhood Attack Churches?— The world is focusing much of its sympathy today on the members of the Muslim Brotherhood that were gunned down in the streets of Cairo by armed police and soldiers seeking to end the Islamist attempt to put Mohamed Morsi back into power. The violence is regrettable and the casualties are widely interpreted as evidence of the brutality of the military regime that toppled Morsi and his Brotherhood regime last month. But the notion that the Brotherhood is the innocent victim of a nasty junta seeking to bring back Mubarak-era authoritarianism is only half right. Though the military government is an unsavory partner for the United States, no one should be under any illusions about the Brotherhood or why the majority of Egyptians (who went to the streets in their millions to support a coup) probably approve of the military’s actions.

Christa Case Bryant: Egypt Cracks Down on Jihadi Sandbox in Sinai—Recent reports paint Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula as a vast jihadi sandbox that could become a new global hub for Al Qaeda. But the violence of late is not merely due to heightened militancy, however strong that threat may be. It is also the result of the Egyptian military’s freer hand to crack down after deposing President Mohamed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood last month. “The Army for the longest time has been holding back from interfering in Sinai,” says Sameeh, a high-ranking security official in northern Sinai who would give only his first name. “The elements in this area fear that they might lose this [strategic area] now that we have deployed more tanks and we’re putting more effort into clearing this area, so obviously they are going to fight back.”

Ron Ben-Yishai: What Prompted the Egyptian Army to Act?—Egyptian Defense Minister al-Sisi had good reason to estimate that if the mass sit-ins organized by the Muslim Brotherhood persisted, the Brotherhood may regain control over the country. Moreover, there were credible reports, including from Brotherhood members, that the pro-Morsi protesters in Cairo were accumulating weapons and defensive equipment and were also building barricades, meaning that it would become harder to remove them by force and the number of casualties would have been greater.

Boaz Bismuth: The uniforms versus the beards— The Egyptian army has provided the Muslim Brotherhood with an opportunity to be depicted as the victims of a coup and not usurpers, as they were during Mohammed Morsi’s presidency.

Prof. Eyal Zisser: The Brothers’ Grimm— Egypt’s military is poised to remove the Muslim Brotherhood not only from Cairo’s halls of power, but from the public sphere as well.

Dr. Reuven Berko: Egypt, the beat of the drum, the fear of the stick— After dispersing demonstrators on Wednesday with live fire, the rules of the game in Egyptian public squares have changed.

Haim Shine: Britain’s Diplomacy of Hypocrisy—Last week Britain announced it is not even thinking about returning to Spain the Rock of Gibraltar, which it conquered many years ago. The Rock sits on seven km. of land where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. For hundreds of years Gibraltar was controlled by Spain until it was taken by the British, but Spain has never forfeited its demand to reassume sovereignty there. Britain has no historical rights to the Rock, yet it insists it will never relinquish it. From Britain’s perspective, what was conquered by force will be held by force for eternity.

Gidon Ben-Zvi: The Guardian’s Vilification of Settlers is Illogical and Immoral— In an August 12 article the Guardian’s Jerusalem correspondent Harriet Sherwood reported that, “In highly contentious moves heralding the renewal of Middle East peace talks this week, Israel…authorized 1,200 new homes to be built in settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.” In response, Palestinian leaders warned that continued settlement expansion could scuttle peace talks.

Ariel Ben Solomon: The Egyptian Army Has More Support than the Brotherhood—Zvi Mazel, a former Israeli ambassador to Egypt, said the army gave the protesters a number of weeks to end their protests or agree to mediation and a negotiated solution. Because the Brotherhood refused to be flexible in its demands, it became obvious that a crackdown was coming.

Stratfor: Iran, Syria: Smuggling Weapons to Gain Influence in the West Bank—A Jordanian security official said that five Syrian smugglers caught near Madaba in central Jordan on Aug. 6 had anti-tank missiles, surface-to-air missiles and assault rifles in their possession.

4--Scripture of the Day USE THIS ONE

The scripture below is from the New American Standard Bible, and the hyperlinks associated with each word are from Strong’s Concordance for the New American Standard Bible.

Hosea 12: 6-8

Therefore, return to your God, observe kindness and justice, and wait for your God continually. A merchant, in whose hands are false balances, he loves to oppress. And Ephraim said, “Surely I have become rich, I have found wealth for myself; in all my labors they will find in me no iniquity, which [would be] sin.”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
