4--Scripture of the Day

Daniel 1: 18-21

Then at the end of the days which the king had specified for presenting them, the commander of the officials presented them before Nebuchadnezzar. The king talked with them, and out of them all not one was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s personal service. As for every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and conjurers who were in all his realm. And Daniel continued until the first year of Cyrus the king.

5--HNIY Print form

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important.  It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.  It’s also available for free in PDF format.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

13--Perspectives

#####

Shmuley Boteach: Verbal Combat: The Rise of Israel’s Words Warriors— Erdogan has said far worse. In 2010 he offered this nugget: ”Even bullies, pirates and criminals have a code of honor. But for those who have none, it would be a compliment to call them names.” And last November he accused Israel of state terrorism and of an “attempt at ethnic cleansing.” But Kerry’s condemnation is essentially the first time Erdogan has been called on his disgusting remarks.

Michael Curtis: Reprimanding Erdogan—Repudiation of Premier Erdogan’s noxious and uncalled-for attack on Zionism at the Vienna UNAOC meeting has come from several surprising sources.

Shlomo Brom: Is Israel on the Verge of a Third Intifada?— The Palestinian protests and the clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces of recent weeks have led to speculation whether Israel is on the verge of a third intifada. However, this question should be raised not only because of recent events, but also due to the basic state of relations between Israel and the Palestinians and the crisis of government in the Palestinian Authority. A review of the situation suggests three conclusions.

Jonathan S. Tobin: No Alternative to Appeasing Morsi?—I wrote earlier today about the way Vice President Biden seemed to take the United States half a step closer to an eventual confrontation with Iran in his speech to the annual AIPAC conference. Also noteworthy was the absence of any criticism of Israel’s presence in the West Bank or settlements. Biden extolled the two-state solution for the conflict with the Palestinians, but as has been the case with the Obama administration since the start of the 2012 presidential campaign, there was an effort to steer clear of any real argument with Israel and its supporters on the peace process. But as much as Biden seemed anxious to agree with the pro-Israel community on a host of issues, such as isolating Hezbollah and treating it as a terrorist organization, there was one point of real disagreement with many of the Jewish state’s supporters.

Michael Rubin: Hey Kerry, Still Optimistic About Iran Talks?—If President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry were still optimistic about the latest round of talks, the comments of Iranian Atomic Energy Organization head Fereydoun Abbasi should disabuse them of that notion.

Arnold Ahlert: Obama’s Billion-Dollar Giveaway to the Muslim Brotherhood—After sequester hysteria, John Kerry sends millions to Islamists in Egypt and Syria.

Janice Fiamengo: Supreme Foolishness—Canadian high court decision exposes Christians to contempt and protects Muslims from criticism.

Paul Gottfried: How the Communist Left Killed Free Speech in the West—What happens when liberals embrace totalitarians.

Jeff Jacoby: Yes, Europe, Hizbullah Is a Terror Group—Winston Churchill understood about Europe’s appeasers that “Each one hopes that if he feeds the crocodile enough, the crocodile will eat him last.” They thought the best way to confront the threat posed by Nazi Germany was to avoid confronting it. “All of them hope that the storm will pass before their turn comes to be devoured.”

Amb. Ron Prosor: Combating Incitement to Terror and Violence— 64 years ago, the UN ratified the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, with the horrors of the Holocaust still fresh in the mind of the international community. One of the Convention’s key provisions made it a crime to “directly and publicly incite” to commit genocide.

Michael Wilner: Prosor to UN: Address “Ecosystem of Extremism”— At a conference at the UN on Thursday hosted by The Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor warned that counter-terrorism efforts are not adequately addressing the fetal stage of terrorism: incitement of hate for Jews in shops, homes and schools across Arab lands. “Terrorism does not begin with an attack on a bus or a raid on a village. That is how terrorism ends,” Prosor said. “True counter-terrorism means disrupting the ecosystem of extremism in which terror thrives.”

Mona Charen: Gullible Nation— Responding to the Obama administration’s operatic warnings of catastrophe for Meals on Wheels for the elderly, Head Start, meat inspections, air traffic controllers, and police, fire, and 911 operators if the government reduces the rate of increase of federal spending by 2 percent, radio host Chris Plante offered the following suggestion: “Since this two percent obviously covers all essential government spending, let’s cut the other 98 percent!”

Matthew Vadum: We Have Ted Cruz’s List: Harvard Law Really Is Littered with Communists—It turns out Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was correct.

S. Fred Singer: The Anatomy of Climate Science Hype—Politics trumps science.

Joe Schoffstall: Obama’s EPA Nominee Vowed Not ‘To Sit Around and Wait for Congressional Action’—Pres. Obama today nominated Gina McCarthy to head the EPA. McCarthy has said she doesn’t plan to wait for Congress to combat climate-related issues and prefers to take matters into her own hands.

Peter Wehner: Barack Obama’s Defective Public Character—Sequestration, for all its problems–and I consider it to be an abdication of responsible governance–is helpful at least to this extent: it captures, in a single, still-unfolding act the problematic character of the president. To understand why, let’s update our effort to follow the bouncing Obama ball. Here’s some of what we know.

Peter Wehner: Apologetics, Politics, and Our Moral Imagination—Michael Ward, Chaplain of St. Peter’s College, Oxford, has written a marvelous essay (which can be found in this collection) on the centrality of imagination in the apologetics of C.S. Lewis. Lewis’s friends J.R.R. Tolkien and Hugo Dyson showed Lewis that Christian doctrine was subordinate to “narrative theology.” Doctrine is about translating concepts and ideas, which is vital; but the primary language of Christianity is a “lived language,” meaning incarnational.

Thomas Sowell: Economic Mobility: Why the Doubters are Wrong—What progressive social scientists fail to consider about socioeconomic change.

Victor Davis Hanson: Journalists as Ring Wraiths–Too many have sold their souls to Obama.

Charles C. W. Cooke: The Great Ammunition Myth—The government is not planning a violent putdown of civil unrest.

Mike McDaniel: ‘Tiny Terrorists’ Caught Up in Anti-Gun Hysteria—”Zero tolerance” for guns leads to college educated adults becoming irrational.

Daniel J. Mitchell: Obama Suffers a Painful Loss in the First Big Fiscal Battle of His Second Term—But he miscalculated in thinking that the fiscal cliff tax hike somehow meant that he had permanently neutered the GOP, and he definitely goofed when he tried to use the sequester as a weapon to bully Republicans into another tax hike.

Stephen Green: Has Obama Suffered a Serious Setback?—Sequestered.

John Hawkins: 5 Things the Gun Grabbers Apparently Don’t Understand—Sorry, but your Second Amendment rights no longer apply because liberals like Josh Marshall tinkle on themselves every time they come within fifty feet of a gun.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
