“On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; all day and all night they will never keep silent.  You who remind Yahweh, take no rest for yourselves; and give Him no rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.  Yahweh has sworn by His right hand and by His strong arm, ‘I will never again give your grain as food for your enemies; nor will foreigners drink your new wine for which you have labored.’” (Isaiah 62: 6-8)

In these verses, Yahweh’s “right hand” and “His strong arm” refer to the Messiah, and the Messiah’s Name is Yahweh Tsidkenu, Yahweh our Righteousness. (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)

In John 17: 6, the Messiah said, “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world.”  In other words, He is the manifestation of Yahweh—the coming of His physical being.

In John 17: 26, He said, “…I have made Your Name known to them….”  In other words, they met and knew Him in Person, and He is the personification of Yahweh—His exact representation.  That’s what Paul was talking about when he said, “And He (the Messiah) is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature….” (Hebrews 1: 3)

The Messiah’s disciples and many others saw Him and touched Him, and He gave them a job to do.  They were supposed to tell the world about Him by Name.  They did their job, and now it’s time for us to do our job.  It includes being “watchmen” for Jerusalem.  Now is the time to speak out, but our job also includes telling people who He is by Name.

Below are a few simple, verifiable facts:

  1. The Messiah’s Name was never Jesus.
  2. He was a Jew.
  3. He was born in Israel.
  4. He was given an Aramaic name at birth—Yeshua.
  5. Yeshua means “Yahweh is salvation” or “Yahweh saves”.
  6. The name Yeshua was one of the three most common names for boys in Israel at that time.  It was like Bill or Bob or Mike today.  They were everywhere.
  7. The name Yeshua did not set Him apart—even then, but the Name Yahweh did then and does now.

Now look at Isaiah 62: 11-12:

“Behold, Yahweh has proclaimed to the end of the earth, say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Lo, your salvation comes; behold His reward is with Him, and His recompense before Him.’  And they will call them, ‘The holy people, the redeemed of Yahweh’; and you (Jerusalem) will be called, ‘Sought out, a city not forsaken.’”

Richard Rives with Just the Facts

Around 1450 B.C. the word of God, referred to in the New Testament as oracles, was committed to Israel. We read of that in Exodus, chapter twenty, when the Ten Commandments were spoken from Mt. Sinai.

In Deuteronomy chapter 11, we read that Israel was given two choices: A blessing or a curse. Blessings if Israel followed God’s instructions and a Curse if not:  Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse; A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: And a curse, if ye will not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known.

A study of Biblical history reveals that the majority chose to disregard that warning. Only 700 years later Israel had fallen into idolatry. The prophet Hosea cautioned the children of Israel:  Ephraim feedeth on the wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians. The result was that the northern ten tribes of Israel found themselves in Assyrian captivity – scattered among the nations.

Hosea also warned that the LORD also had a controversy with Judah, and that He would punish Jacob according to his ways. We know from history that in 586 B.C. Judah was taken captive by the Babylonians.

Now, why is all this ancient history important to us—to believers living some 2,500 years later? Well, the answer is that the Old Testament was intended to be an example for us. The chosen people of Israel had gradually fallen out of favor with God. The subtle influences of paganism over hundreds of years had led to their demise.

God is not a respecter of persons, and the subtle influences of paganism are still at work today leading many away from the commandments of our Creator. Israel was given a choice; and as a part of the Israel of God believers in Yeshua, Jesus Christ, the Messiah of Israel, we have that same choice. Jesus said: Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

By the power of the Holy Spirit we can keep His commandments. Let’s do what He says and choose great blessings.
