Scripture of the day:
Isaiah 33: 1-2—“Woe to you, O destroyer, while you were not destroyed; and he who is treacherous, while others did not deal treacherously with him. As soon as you finish destroying, you will be destroyed; as soon as you cease to deal treacherously, others will deal treacherously with you. O Yahweh, be gracious to us; we have waited for You. Be their strength every morning, our salvation also in the time of distress.”

SnyderTalk Commentary: When I read the article above, I found it hard to believe that a US hotel would offer a special package for pregnant Muslim women who wanted to give birth in the US. I can understand why pregnant women would want to give birth in the US. According to our law, children born here are US citizens. They have all the rights, benefits, and privileges of any citizen including welfare payments, but I was still skeptical so I went to The Marmara Manhattan hotel’s website to find out if it’s true. The only package listed was for recent divorcees. It’s called the “Suddenly Splitsville Package”, and it fetches from $7,250 to $14,500 per month. The package includes, and I’m quoting:
- Champagne (to celebrate or drown your sorrows),
- Häagen-Dazs ice cream (the best comfort food we know),
- A copy of “Confessions of an Online Dating Addict”—the quintessential “I’ve been there, done that” guide to online dating
- Free WiFI, to use after you’ve read the book, of course; and
- Consultation with a real estate agent to help you scout out new digs.
Obviously, someone on the marketing staff at The Marmara Manhattan in New York is creative or stretching the envelope so I thought, The article might be true. I decided to call the hotel and find out: 212-427-3100. The person who answered the phone told me that he had been instructed to direct all inquiries to this number: 212-491-8255. I called that number several times and got a voice mail message each time. Maybe you can get an answer, or maybe your Senator or Representative can find out.
This issue deserves attention. I’ll try calling again later, but I think members of Congress should hear about it just in case it is true.

Climate Change Update:
SEPP SCIENCE EDITORIAL #19-2010 (June 19, 2010)
by S. Fred Singer, President, Science and Environmental Policy Project
EPA’s ‘analysis’ of the American Power Act (Kerry-Lieberman bill S-1733) is so bad, I wonder if a response to Scientific American is worthwhile. (See “News Sources Ignore EPA’s 1 in 100 Odds of Livable Future Without the American Power Act”.)
1. It assumes a climate sensitivity that is not justified by any evidence.
2. It ignores all forcings except CO2.
3. It assumes that China and India will go along in rationing energy use.
4. It uses the ‘magic’ 2 deg C threshold—for which there is no scientific evidence.
5. It assumes that floods, droughts, etc. will all increase with temperature.
6. It ignores the benefits of global warming and increased CO2.
7. It uses made-up risk probabilities, disguised as science.
