Isaiah 29: 20-24—“For the ruthless will come to an end and the scorner will be finished, indeed all who are intent on doing evil will be cut off; who cause a person to be indicted by a word, and ensnare him who adjudicates at the gate, and defraud the one in the right with meaningless arguments. Therefore thus says Yahweh, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob: ‘Jacob shall not now be ashamed, nor shall his face now turn pale; but when he sees his children, the work of My hands, in his midst, they will sanctify My name; indeed, they will sanctify the Holy One of Jacob and will stand in awe of the God of Israel. Those who err in mind will know the truth, and those who criticize will accept instruction.’”

“For here we are not afraid to follow the truth wherever it may lead, nor to tolerate any error so long as reason is left free to combat it.” (Thomas Jefferson)

Scripture of the day:

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4: 6)

News Items of Interest:

SnyderTalk Commentary: The statement above is correct.  By instigating the trouble, Turkey is ultimately responsible for the deaths that occurred when Israeli troops boarded vessels to check for weapons.  When they were attacked, they reacted the way any soldier would have reacted.

As I said yesterday, this is all part of a PR campaign.  The goal is to raise questions about Israel’s legitimacy and its right to exist.  Judging by the mainstream media, the PR strategists were correct in assuming there is much anti-Semitism in the world.  Where was the outcry when Iran abducted hikers or when Egypt killed migrants or when Hamas kidnapped a soldier?  There was dead silence.  If you can’t see the double standard, you aren’t paying attention.  Israel has every right to defend herself, and when people knowingly place themselves in harm’s way, they have to realize that they are putting their lives at risk.

This isn’t a board game.  It’s war, and pretending it’s not is ludicrous.

SnyderTalk Commentary: This is the lead paragraph in the article above—“The U.N. Security Council called early Tuesday for an ‘impartial’ investigation of Israel’s deadly commando raid on ships taking humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and condemned the ‘acts’ that resulted in the loss of at least nine lives.”

Do you get the joke?  The UN is calling for an “impartial investigation” into a “deadly (Israeli) commando raid”.  Who are they trying to kid?  The UN just put Iran on the Women’s Rights Commission.  The UN is probably the best example on earth today of the Keystone Kops in real life.  In the UN, you can get a majority vote against Israel any day of the week because Jews breathe air and drive on highways.

UN apologists will be quick to point out that the UN Security Council is different.  It can stop all that foolishness if even one member vetoes a resolution.  That’s true.  If it had not been for US vetoes of idiotic UN Security Council resolutions, Israel would have been condemned for everything under the sun, but, and this is a big but, THEN CAME OBAMA.  I’ll stop there for now, but you should stay tuned because this thing is far from over.

A Layperson’s Perspective on Climate Change in the Religious Sphere:

Dear Dr. Mangino:

A few months ago you gave me permission to reprint your article on global warming for our local weekly newspaper, the Hampshire Review, in Romney, WV. The article was well received; many people, including some I don’t know personally, told me they appreciated the information.

I want to tell you about a conference I attended that demonstrates how far global warming extremists will go to further their agenda. Every year there are LARC Conferences in many states. They are groups of Lutheran, Anglican and Roman Catholic theologians, clergy, and interested laity who get together to discuss the problems facing the three churches in their quest for complete unity. My husband and I have been involved in the ecumenical movement for decades, so we were happy to attend. The gatherings in Virginia were always very scholarly and productive, so when we lived there we tried to attend every year.

This year’s West Virginia meeting was a shock. Little or nothing was addressed about truly theological concerns. Instead, the problem of global warming was discussed, and it was strongly urged that the three religious persuasions have to make a public apology to third world countries for causing their ecological and economic distress through our overuse of earth’s resources. Furthermore, they said we should agree to pay them annual reparations for the damage we have caused.

No one was raising any objections to this rant, so I did the dirty job myself. (According to the author, “rant” is probably the wrong word. She clarified in an email—“They were persistent, self-righteous, dismissive of dissent, and outwardly pleasant, so I should not have used the word ‘rant’. The way they handled challenging questions or statements was by looking elsewhere in the room when someone was talking, making sideways comments, then pointing to someone else and saying, ‘Next question’. In a way, that treatment is worse than a rant because it is insulting and sends the message that you must be the lunatic fringe, only to be tolerated and not taken seriously.”)

I challenged their premise, and gave them the full argument against global warming being the result of man’s activities. They really had nothing to say in answer, just gave me the cold shoulder and pretended I was invisible. Later I overheard the 3 theologians’ comments to each other about “troublemakers” and those who are “just trying to start an argument”. A few attendees approached me and thanked me for speaking up, saying that I wasn’t alone in being “conservative”. I don’t think conservatism has anything to do with it, and it would have been nice to have a little support during the argument.

There was another disagreement which I will not get into, since it does not concern the environment. The theologians obviously had their own agenda in everything; when I suggested that the bottom line should be the search for truth, the wispy young man speaking for the Anglicans dismissed me by saying wryly, “Truth is good.”

There is no bottom line to this; I simply thought you’d be interested to hear that the global warming extremists have even taken over theology. (The vapid young Anglican theologian is getting his Master’s in “Environmental Theology”. Huh?)

Sincerely,

Susan DeVan

SnyderTalk Commentary: Taking a position that challenges conventional wisdom isn’t easy, as Susan DeVan knows.  I hope you realize that not standing for the truth inevitably leads to catastrophic consequences.  We can’t accept lies.  Yahweh is the God of truth, and we are His people.  We have an obligation to stand firm when we know the truth.  It’s that simple.
