Isaiah 28: 14-16—“Therefore, hear the word of Yahweh, O scoffers, who rule this people who are in Jerusalem, because you have said, ‘We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have made a pact. The overwhelming scourge will not reach us when it passes by, for we have made falsehood our refuge and we have concealed ourselves with deception.’ Therefore thus says Adonai Yahweh, ‘Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a costly cornerstone for the foundation, firmly placed. He who believes in it will not be disturbed.’”

“For here we are not afraid to follow the truth wherever it may lead, nor to tolerate any error so long as reason is left free to combat it.” (Thomas Jefferson)

Scripture of the day:

SnyderTalk® Commentary:

Currently, I am putting up bite sized pieces of His Name is Yahweh in SnyderTalk Commentary.  If you haven’t read it, it will be a treat for you.  If you have read it, you will probably enjoy reading it again.  You can download the entire manuscript for free at His Name is Yahweh, or you can buy it in Kindle format from Amazon for just $5.

I have left out several footnotes.  Please go to the website His Name is Yahweh and download the manuscript.  It has all the footnotes, and it’s free.

Yeshua Used the Name “Yahweh”

I have shown already that Yeshua used the Name “Yahweh” when He performed healing miracles and that He was crucified for saying “Yahweh”, but there are many other examples in the Bible of Yeshua saying the Name “Yahweh.”  For example,

  • Matthew 4: 7 and Luke 4: 12—Yeshua responding to Satan by quoting Deuteronomy 6: 16—“On the other hand, it is written, ‘You shall not put Yahweh your God to the test.’”
  • Matthew 4: 10 and Luke 4: 8—Yeshua responding to Satan by quoting Deuteronomy 6: 13—“Go Satan!  For it is written, ‘You shall worship Yahweh your God, and serve Him only.’”
  • Matthew 22: 43-44—Yeshua responding to a group of Pharisees by quoting Psalm 110: 1—“Then how does David in the Spirit call Him Lord, saying, ‘Yahweh said to my Lord, sit at my right hand, until I put Your enemies beneath Your feet?’”
  • Matthew 23: 37-39—Yeshua quoting Psalm 118: 26 after condemning the Jewish religious leaders—“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her!  How many times I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling.  Behold, your house is being left to you desolate!  For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until you say ‘Blessed is He Who comes in the Name of Yahweh.’”
  • Mark 12: 29-30 and Luke 10: 27—Yeshua responding to a scribe in the presence of many witnesses by quoting Deuteronomy 6: 4-5 (the Shema)—“The foremost is, ‘Hear, O Israel!  Yahweh our God is One; and you shall love Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’”
  • Luke: 4: 18-19 and 21—Yeshua announcing His earthly ministry and His identity to His neighbors in Nazareth by quoting Isaiah 61: 1-2—“The Spirit of Yahweh is upon Me, because He has appointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.  He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are downtrodden, to proclaim the favorable year of Yahweh….Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”

When Yeshua told His neighbors in Nazareth who He is, they tried to kill Him, but miraculously He escaped. (Luke 4: 28-30)  The only justification for their action was the fact that He said the Name “Yahweh.”  Simply put, there is no other rational explanation for their response to Yeshua’s comment.
