The Priests Look for a Way to Accuse Yeshua

One day the priests brought a woman to Yeshua who had been caught in the act of adultery and told Him that the Law of Moses said she should be stoned.  Then they asked Him what He thought. (John 8: 5)  Obviously, this was a trap because they brought the woman to Him, but not the man.  If she was caught in the act of adultery, then he must have been caught too.  When Yeshua said, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her,” (John 8: 7) they lowered their heads and walked away one-by-one.

This incident set in motion a series of discussions between Yeshua and the priests.  Eventually, the priests told Yeshua that He was demon-possessed, and He said, “I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.” (John 8: 49)  Then He told them that anyone who believes in Him will never die.

In response, the priests said, “Now we know you have a demon.  Abraham died, and the prophets also; and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word, he will never taste death.’  Surely You are not greater than our father Abraham, who died?” (John 8: 52-53)

Yeshua’s reply left no room for doubt in their minds about who He claimed to be:

The New Jerusalem Bible’s translation of John 8: 58 is better:

“In all truth I tell you, before Abraham ever was, I am.” (John 8: 58)

The priests understood perfectly that Yeshua was claiming to be Yahweh.  Take a look at John 8: 59 and see what I mean.  They picked up stones to throw at Him, and they would have killed Yeshua on the spot if they could have done it legally.  But

He had claimed to be Yahweh without saying the Name “Yahweh.”  It is obvious to me that Yeshua wanted to be tried for claiming to be Yahweh, and eventually He was, but in fact, the priests convicted Him and sentenced Him to death for committing “blasphemy,” or for simply saying the Name “Yahweh.”  I will discuss this issue shortly.

When Yeshua raised Lazarus from the dead, it was the last straw as far as the priests were concerned. (John 11: 45-53)  They were convinced that if He continued preaching and performing miracles everyone would believe in Him (John 11: 48), so they convened the Sanhedrin and decided it was time to do away with Yeshua once and for all.  Little did they know they were accomplishing Yahweh’s purpose.  One day people everywhere will realize that Yeshua is Yahweh.

Commonsense: Ed Koch is a Democrat and a former New York City mayor—and he’s Jewish.  I wish all the Jewish people in New York had as much sense as he does where Israel is concerned.  Koch sees what’s happening, and he’s speaking out against the shameful policies of the Obama administration.  Those policies appear to be aimed at countering Iran’s quest to dominate the Middle East by turning our back on Israel to win the allegiance of Israel’s Arab Muslim neighbors.  Never in my life have I had the feeling that my country is opposed to Israel—until now that is.  If you love Israel and you believe Yahweh’s promises about Israel, it’s time to let your voice be heard.

I fear for my country because we are on a path leading toward a confrontation with Yahweh.  Thankfully, we still live in a country where people can speak out against dangerous and foolhardy government policies.  Please take your role as a U.S. citizen seriously and act before it’s too late.  November 2010 is right around the corner, and that’s just the beginning.  It’s time to take our country back.

Since many SnyderTalk readers are not US citizens, I urge you to pray for this country.  Specifically, pray that Yahweh will lead us to repentance.  The literal meaning of that word is to turn and go in the other direction.  That’s what we must do where Israel is concerned.
