Not winning the 2016 Olympic Games may have stunned Chicago, but it didn’t surprise me. Putting the full weight of the Office of the President of the United States on the line behind a decision about where to hold the Olympic Games in 2016 was a mistake from the beginning. Rahm Emanuel should have known enough to advise the president against it. Who knows? Maybe he did, but I think it’s just as likely that Emanuel is infatuated with his boss. After all, Obama’s style is to surround himself with sycophants.

The Messiah is the Word of Yahweh—Part 5

Psalm 138: 2 illustrates how much Yahweh honors His Word: “I will bow down toward Your holy temple and give thanks to Your Name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your Word according to all Your Name.”

A literal translation of this verse from the Hebrew reads as follows: “…for You have exalted Your Word above Your Name.”  Yahweh is the Name that is above every name, and Yahweh has exalted “His Word”—i.e., the Messiah—above His Name.  Be sure of this fact.  Yahweh does not honor words written on paper above His Name.  The only Person or thing exalted above Yahweh’s Name is Yahweh Himself.

A Jewish sage named Jonathon ben Uziel wrote the Jerusalem Targum before the Messiah’s birth.  In it, he refers to Yahweh as the “Word of the Lord” in keeping with the Jewish tradition that prohibits saying or writing God’s Name except on special occasions.  Below are two examples that prove my point.  First you will read a verse from the Torah and then the Jerusalem Targum’s explanation of that verse:

Genesis 19: 24—“Then Yahweh rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahweh out of heaven.”

The Jerusalem Targum—“And the Word of the Lord caused to descend upon the people of Sodom and Gomorrah, brimstone and fire from the Lord from heaven.”

Exodus 3: 14—“God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM’; and He said, ‘Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.”

The Jerusalem Targum—“And the Word of the Lord said unto Moses: I am He who said unto the world, Be! and it was: and who in the future shall say to it Be! and it shall be.  And He said Thus thou shalt say to the Children of Israel: I am hath sent me unto you.”

SnyderTalk® Commentary

What Elizabeth Smart went through was horrific.  Her suffering is almost impossible to describe.  What her parents went through during the time she was missing was sheer torture.  Watching Elizabeth testify in open court, reliving the ordeal she underwent, must have torn her parents’ hearts out.  It hurt me just reading about it and watching the video material.

I am so thankful that nothing like that has ever happened to anyone in my family or to anyone I know.  My heart goes out to the Smart family.  Elizabeth is a courageous young woman.  May Yahweh bless her and heal her pain as she prepares to launch a new life.  Nothing can blot out the memories, but Yahweh can use Elizabeth’s experience to make her into a solid rock for Him.  He will do just that.  Yahweh bless you and keep you, Elizabeth.  May Yahweh make His Light shine on you and give you His peace that surpasses understanding.

U.S. and Western Hemisphere

You may be asking this question.  Why was it wrong to send the president, the first lady, and Oprah Winfrey to Copenhagen?

  1. Because the U.S. has already hosted its share of Olympic Games.
  2. Because South America has never hosted an Olympic game.
  3. Because Brazil is a country on the move…up.  With Obama at the helm, the U.S. is moving too, but in the other direction.
  4. Because the president’s plate is full of critical issues that really matter and demand his attention…right now.

During the campaign, President Obama told us that he can walk and chew chewing gum at the same time.  From the looks of things, what he calls walking others call bumbling, and what he calls chewing others call gum flapping.  Candidly, I think Barack Hussein Obama must believe the reports of people like Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann, two tottering nabobs of contemporary liberalism with a combined common sense quotient that is probably below that of the average tree frog.  Our president would do well to keep in mind 1) that he is not the Messiah, 2) that he can’t walk on water, 3) that there are people in this world who don’t faint in his presence, 4) that logic prevails at least some of the time, and 5) that he should stick to his knitting.

President Obama has a serious job to do, and judging by the polls coming out lately, he’s not doing it very well.  The unemployment data is a stark reminder that the government bailout he pushed through Congress isn’t working nearly as well as he led us to believe…even though he is doing his best to downplay his failure.  Truth is he should have used tax cuts to stimulate the economy.  That’s not just my opinion.  It is shared by most serious economists because it puts money directly into the hands of people and businesses that need it most.

President Obama’s contempt for business and business people and his complete lack of confidence in ordinary citizens to make reasonable choices led him to force a trillion dollar stimulus package down our throats.  He thinks the skids are greased and that he can do whatever he wants.  Well, he didn’t win the Olympics; he is about to take a licking on healthcare; and in 2010 he’ll be looking at a Congress with a different complexion.  You can count on it.

By the way, I recognize that President Obama will make concessions to get a healthcare bill through Congress, but you can rest assured that it won’t be the bill he wanted and expected.  His healthcare “win” will in reality be a failure.  I know it; you know it; and he knows it.

A 25-minute tarmac meeting with General McChrystal to discuss the Afghan War while the president takes care of more important business in Copenhagen sends a clear signal about where Barack Hussein Obama’s priorities are.  His disdain for the military is second only to his contempt for business.  In third place is his disregard for ordinary people like you and me.  That is becoming clear, and his poll numbers are showing it.
