Getting Back to Our Founding Principles

Over my 70 years of life, I have watched our nation descend into the Slough of Despond.

The Slough of Despond is a fictional swamp that John Bunyan describes in his 1677 Christian allegory The Pilgrim’s Progress. It’s a deep, dark, dirty place where believers experience a sense of guilt and shame because of their sins. It’s the bottom of the pit where believers have no choice except to look up. As a nation, that’s where we are.

Our Constitution

Our nation was built on Christian principles. People may deny that claim, but they can’t refute it.

Our Founding Fathers embedded those principles in our Constitution. Among them are the right to life and due process. As a result of those principles, our nation prospered.

Over the years, our nation has drifted away from those principles. We have allowed our courts to create so-called “constitutional rights” that don’t exist. The most egregious example is a woman’s so-called “constitutional right to choose”.

That’s a euphemism for abortion on demand without constraint. It is the taking of an innocent human life without due process. It is legalized murder.

Religious Liberty

Religious liberty is one of our nation’s founding principles. It’s embedded in the First Amendment to our Constitution:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The United States is a diverse nation. It’s composed of people with many belief systems, but about 70% of our nation’s people claim to be Christians.

In a nation where the majority rules, Christians have been too quiet for too long. That’s why things like abortion on demand without constraint have been allowed to infect our society.

The Democrat Party Platform

Abortion on demand without constraint is the main pillar of the Democrat Party platform. It includes partial-birth abortion.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are staunch supporters of abortion on demand without constraint including partial-birth abortion. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are stanch supporters of abortion on demand without constraint as well. All of them have vowed to protect it. Most of them support infanticide. Who knows what they will support next?

Our Courts

President Trump has had many amazing accomplishments during his first term, but his most important contribution to date has been the appointment of judges who believe in our Constitution and see their role as interpreting it, not rewriting it.

So far, President Trump has nominated

• 3 Supreme Court justices,
• 54 appellate court judges,
• 195 district court judges,
• 4 judges for the United States Court of International Trade,
• 13 judges for the United States Court of Federal Claims,
• 7 tax court judges,
• 6 judges for the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims,
• 1 judge for the United States Court of Military Commission Review,
• 2 judges for the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces,
• and 1 judge for the Territorial courts.

Most of the president’s nominees have been confirmed by the Senate. All of them are committed to interpreting the Constitution as it is written. Getting back to our founding principles is the first step in the healing process.

More work needs to be done, but President Trump has had a great start. He has earned our support.

“If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

“Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death? Thanks be to Elohim through Yeshua the Messiah our Master! So then, on the one hand I myself with my mind am serving the law of Elohim, but on the other, with my flesh the law of sin.” (Romans 7: 24-25)

Conclusion

Donald Trump should be re-elected, because he is Yahweh’s man for a time like this. We’ll have to wait for the Messiah’s return for a Perfect Leader. In the meantime, we should listen to Yahweh’s voice.

“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.” (John 10: 27)

This is a no-brainer: Yahweh does not support the slaughter of innocents. So, Yahweh does not support the Democrat Party.
