Why Do Fat People Always ask for Sweet’N Low

In the 1980s, Yahweh brought a problem to my attention.  He told me that about 25% of Americans were obese and that it was a serious issue.

A short while later, it was revealed that our “Normal Weight” tables are inaccurate. What we call “Normal Weight” isn’t normal. We know that because people who weigh less than “Normal Weight” are healthier than people who are “Normal Weight”.

The surgeon general at the time, Dr. C. Everett Koop, suggested lowering the “Normal Weight” tables to reflect reality. Physicians across America said, “No way!” They believed that telling their overweight patients the truth would lead to depression.

I wish that was a joke.

When Yahweh told me about the obesity problem, I was a professor at the University of Virginia.  In the 1980s, UVA administrators were beginning to pay attention to eating disorders.  Anorexia and bulimia were their eating disorders of choice.  I had been at UVA for long enough by then to see that overeating was a far more serious problem than under-eating.

While the average student at UVA was getting noticeably fatter, the student affairs people at UVA were lecturing students about under-eating, disorders that affected a very small percentage of our students.

I’m not trying to minimize the seriousness of anorexia and bulimia.  I’m pointing out that overeating is a far more prevalent and more serious problem.

A few weeks ago, it was reported that the average American is obese using “Normal Weight” tables that we know understate the problem. Thirty years ago, 25% of Americans were obese. Today, it’s 50%. I’m not a rocket scientist, but I can plot that trajectory. Again, our “Normal Weight” tables understate the problem.

In that light, consider this verse:

“They are headed for destruction. Their god is their appetite, they brag about shameful things, and they think only about this life here on earth.” (Philippians 3: 19)

Paul was being literal. This isn’t a new problem, but it’s much worse now than it was then.

We have a problem. Obesity is one manifestation of it. Remember that the next time you hear a young woman chant “My body, my choice!”  That’s another example of the problem.

Click here to watch a video.

At this point in her life, it’s fair to say that the young woman in the video  is filthy through-and-through. She’ll have to draw that conclusion herself before she is ready to accept the fact that she needs a Savior, Yahweh.

The Democrat women running for president aren’t young women or little girls. They are courting voters like her by telling them that it’s okay to commit murder.

There is a point of no return. For each person, it’s different. I can’t help but remember this passage in Genesis 15: “The iniquity of the Amorite is not yet complete.”

There is a point of no return. When people reach the point of no return, it’s over for them. They couldn’t find Yahweh no matter how hard they tried. All they have to look forward to is death and then eternal damnation.

I’m not Yahweh. He’s the Judge, but He gave me a brain and His Spirit. I think many Democrats reached the point of no return a long time ago.

Look at the things the Democrat Party stands for: abortion on demand, sodomy, everything Yahweh hates. In their 2012 presidential nominating convention, they booed Yahweh. How much more evidence should anyone need.

Never before in my lifetime has a political party in the United States been so blatantly and openly anti-Yahweh. To me, it looks like they purposely decided to support things that Yahweh hates.

Ladies and gentlemen, that’s Satan at work. That’s his calling card. It really is a spiritual battle.

Now, consider this passage.  The Messiah is speaking:

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be.” (Matthew 24: 36-39)

Did you ever wonder what “the days of Noah” would be like? Stop wondering. You are watching it.

Did you know that the Bible talks about gluttony and drunkenness the same way? They are 2 manifestations of the same problem.

I am always amused when I see an obese preacher telling his congregation about the sinfulness of alcohol consumption. I’m not suggesting that over-drinking is okay. I’m pointing out that over-eating is the same problem.  Fat preachers should think long and hard before they spout forth on just about any subject.

A while back, I told a friend the title of a book that I was thinking about writing. The title is Why Do Fat People Always ask for Sweet’N Low. He’s a physician. He thought I was joking, but I was half serious. I’ve written many books. Why not that one? The biggest problem for me would be deciding whether it should be entirely factual or mostly humor.

I probably won’t write that book, but I certainly could.

What is the underlying problem that manifests itself in so many ways?  It’s rebellion against Yahweh.  Putting a fine point on it, it’s disobedience.

Do you think that Yahweh shed His blood for our salvation so that we can disobey Him with impunity?  I hope not.  Evidence suggests that the answer is NO!

Disobedience has consequences in the here-and-now.

Most obese people won’t understand how dangerous obesity is until they have a serious medical condition.  That day is coming for everyone who lives long enough.  When it arrives, obesity can be the difference between life and death.  For obese people, it will be too late.  They won’t be able to lose enough weight fast enough to improve their chances of survival.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
