Sukkot Started Yesterday at Sundown

Sukkot 2018 started yesterday (September 23rd) at sundown.  It will end on September 30th at sundown.  Sukkot is also known as the Feast of Tabernacles and the Feast of Booths.

Sukkot is a mandatory feast.  During Sukkot each year, the Children of Israel came to Jerusalem to celebrate the time that their ancestors spent with Yahweh in the wilderness being protected and cared for by Him.

The key is Yahweh’s children dwelling with Him in Jerusalem under His divine protection:

  • Thus says Yahweh, “I will return to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of Yahweh Sabaoth will be called the Holy Mountain.” (Zechariah 8: 3)

After Yahweh defeats His enemies in the war that has come to be known as Armageddon, He will judge the nations:

  • “I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; and they have divided up My land.” (Joel 3: 2)

Then, Yahweh will take His seat in His Temple in Jerusalem.  During the Millennial Kingdom, Sukkot will be a mandatory feast:

  • Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that went against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, Yahweh Sabaoth, and to celebrate the Feast of Booths [Sukkot].  And it will be that whichever of the families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, Yahweh Sabaoth, there will be no rain on them.  If the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which Yahweh smites the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths [Sukkot].  This will be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Feast of Booths [Sukkot]. (Zechariah 14: 16-19)
In Pictures

The picture below was taken from an area that’s known as Abraham’s House. As far as I know, this area has nothing of significance to do with Abraham. I’m sure Abraham saw it. He probably walked on it. He may have pitched his tent on it. Beyond that, nothing is certain.

Biblical Jerusalem is called the City of David. It is south of the Temple Mount on Mount Moriah. It is bordered on the east by the Kidron Valley (or the Valley of Jehoshaphat referred to by Joel) and on the west by the Hinnom Valley. In the New Testament, the Hinnom Valley is called Gehenna. It was Jerusalem’s garbage dump.

The Central Valley or the Tyropoeon Valley is between the Kidron Valley and the Hinnom Valley. Today, it can’t be seen from outside the City of David. Over the millennia, it has been filled in and covered up with debris. It’s being excavated right now.

In the picture, I placed a yellow circle around the area that is known to be the place where David’s palace stood. It sat on the far north end of the City of David high above the rest of the city and just below the Temple Mount.

None of the City of David sits within the walls of today’s Old City of Jerusalem. Today’s Old City walls were built during the Ottoman Period in the 1500s AD.

The picture below is a closeup of the excavations around the palace area. It is located very near the main entrance to the City of David today.

The picture below is an artist’s rendition of the City of David during biblical times.

Isaiah Tells Us about that Glorious Day

Then you will say on that day, “I will give thanks to You, O Yahweh; for although You were angry with me, Your anger is turned away, and You comfort me. Behold, Elohim is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; for Yahweh Elohim is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.”

Therefore, you will joyously draw water from the springs of salvation.

And in that day you will say, “Give thanks to Yahweh, call on His Name. Make known His deeds among the peoples; make them remember that His Name is exalted.”

Praise Yahweh in song, for He has done excellent things; let this be known throughout the earth. Cry aloud and shout for joy, O inhabitant of Zion, for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.

(Isaiah 12: 1-6)

Have a Wonderful Sukkot

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
