Israel Hayom—US Ambassador Friedman: There is no peace because the PA pays terrorists:

The Israel Defense Forces cordoned off Palestinian villages and sent reinforcements to Judea and Samaria on Wednesday, a day after a father of six was shot and killed by a terrorist near the Havat Gilad settlement in Samaria.

The IDF imposed a partial lockdown on the area while hunting for the assailant, who was still at large on Wednesday.

Israeli troops combed villages around the Palestinian city of Nablus searching for suspects, the IDF said in a statement.

In the attack, Raziel Shevach, 35, was making his way home when he was shot multiple times from a passing vehicle. He was taken to hospital in critical condition and succumbed to his wounds shortly afterward.

In response to the attack, U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman condemned the Palestinian Authority’s practice of paying salaries to terrorists involved in murdering Israelis.

“An Israeli father of six was killed last night in cold blood by Palestinian terrorists,” Friedman tweeted Wednesday.

“Hamas praises the killers and PA laws will provide them financial rewards. Look no further to why there is no peace.”

U.N. Middle East peace envoy Nickolay Mladenov also condemned the killing in a tweet saying: “There is no justification for terror and those who condone it, praise it or glorify it. This is not the path to peace!”

Israel has long pushed – unsuccessfully – for the Palestinians to halt the “martyrs’ fund,” payments to thousands of families of Palestinians killed or wounded while perpetrating terrorist attacks, or imprisoned for committing attacks. In 2016, the PA spent 1.15 billion shekels ($322 million) on payments to terrorists. Israel has repeatedly condemned the practice, saying it encourages violence.

SnyderTalk Comment:

Payments to terrorists is a large part of the problem, but it’s not the only part and I don’t think it’s the most important part.

From my perspective, the biggest problem that Israel has with Palestinians is the large number of Palestinians who are little more than criminals and lowlifes.  They probably represent only about 15% of the Palestinian population, but that’s a large enough percentage to wreak havoc.

The best way to think about those people is to think of them as hoodlums who don’t work and don’t want to work.  Literally, they spend their days doing nothing but hanging around with people like themselves and thinking about something malicious to do.  As I said, in the U.S., we would call them criminals and lowlifes.

Add to that the large number of Muslim religious leaders who preach Israel hate and Jew hate, and you have a real problem on your hands.  The fact that the Palestinian Authority pays the families of terrorists who die in the process of carrying out terrorist attacks makes the problem worse, but those payments are not the root cause of the problem.

The root cause of the Palestinian problem is a culture of violence toward Israel and Jewish people that is encouraged by Palestinian political and religious leaders.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
