NPR—Trump’s Point Man On Israel Visits Netanyahu And Abbas To Discuss Peace Talks:

Jason Greenblatt, who went from being President Trump’s longtime lawyer to leading his effort to bring a lasting peace to Israel, met with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank on Tuesday, one day after Greenblatt met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for talks that touched on Israeli settlement construction.

The State Department calls this an “orientation trip” that’s meant to hear from the two sides about returning to peace negotiations.

From Jerusalem, NPR’s Daniel Estrin reports for our Newscast unit:

“Trump has asked Netanyahu to curb settlement building. Greenblatt said Trump also wants the Palestinians’ economy and quality of life to improve. Trump’s envoy is also meeting with the Palestinian Authority president, amid a series of Palestinian street protests against the Palestinian leadership and its security ties to Israel. Palestinian riot police beat demonstrators and journalists at a weekend protest.”

Palestinian officials say Trump is poised to offer a “historic” deal to bring Abbas back to the negotiating table, perhaps during a U.S. visit that could come as early as next month. That’s according to The Times of Israel, which cites the officials saying Trump might use promises of no more settlement construction and keeping the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv to give peace talks momentum.

SnyderTalk Comment:

I have friends in Israel who are very concerned about what might happen as a result of the renewed “peace” push by the Trump administration.

They know from experience that a rapid escalation in Palestinian violence always accompanies “peace” talks.  This time is no different.  Israel is already seeing an increase in violence especially around the Temple Mount.

I used to feel comfortable walking in front of the Damascus Gate to the Old City of Jerusalem, but I don’t go there anymore except on rare occasions.  When I go there, I am more alert than normal.

I also used to enjoy walking in the Palestinian shopping area across the street from the Damascus Gate.  There is a lot to see over there, but I avoid it.  Why take unnecessary chances?

Palestinian areas of Jerusalem are not safe for anyone including tourists.  The probability of an attack may not be high, but it’s high enough.  Katie and I have had several encounters over there.  None of them were life threatening, but I don’t enjoy going places where I have to be on guard all the time.

I have a Protector.  He has made it clear to me that I can feel safe and secure in Israel, particularly in Jerusalem.  Even so, I’m not an idiot, and I know where the problems are. Avoiding them is just common sense.

This is an example of what I’m talking about.  The City of David is a very important place to Yahweh.  In the Bible, it’s referred to by that name, but it’s also ancient Jerusalem.  In the Old Testament, when you read about Jerusalem, you are reading about the City of David.

Inside the City of David, archaeological excavations are taking place all the time.  Katie and I go there every couple of years at least to see the recently unearthed finds that have been discovered.

Across the street from the southern tip of the City of David sits Silwan.  It’s a Palestinian neighborhood that has become a hotbed of Islamist terrorist activity.  In the not too distant past, I felt comfortable walking outside the perimeter of the City of David, but I don’t do that anymore.  Again, why take chances.

In the New Testament, an event is discussed that most Christians know about.  The Messiah was walking beside a pool of water, and He met a man who was blind from birth. The blind man sat beside the pool waiting for the water to be stirred by Ruach Yahweh because the first one in the pool after that happened was healed.  Yeshua restored his sight.

That was an important event for many reasons, but I mention it here simply because that pool is inside the City of David.  From there, I can easily throw a rock to Silwan.  Jerusalem, especially ancient Jerusalem, is a compact place.  It’s so compact that you can be safe on one side of the street and not so safe on the other side.

In Jerusalem, it pays for tourists to know which side of the street to walk on.

Palestinians aren’t serious about peace.  If they were, they wouldn’t do things that make people like me feel uncomfortable.  They would want me to visit often, and I would if they behaved differently.

Palestinians never have been serious about peace with Israel.  They want our money, and they want us to apply pressure on Israel to make unilateral concessions with nothing in expected from them return.  It’s just that simple.

The Western world has been duped.  Since the Oslo Peace Accords were signed almost 3 decades ago, things in Israel have been going downhill.  I’ve witnessed the changes.

President Trump needs to be careful.  He needs our prayers.

“If My people who are called by My Name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7: 14)

Change that Yahweh calls “good” begins in the hearts of believers—people who are recognizable because they are different.

We are different because we belong to Him and are called by His Name.  We are Yahweh’s people, His followers.

SnyderTalk Comment:

Palestinian leaders are good at 4 things: lying, cheating, stealing, and inciting violence.  Anyone who is attempting to negotiate with them needs to be very careful.

Thankfully, Palestinians are very predictable.  Not smart, mind you, just predictable.

It’s been said and it’s true that Palestinian leaders never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
