The Jewish Press—Islamists’ Ultimatum to Hamas: Release our Members or We’ll Shoot at Israel:

After the Israeli town of Sderot was hit last Wednesday with a rocket shot from the Gaza Strip, the responsible Salafi terror group Aknaf Bait al-Maqdis delivered an ultimatum to the Hamas government: release our activists from your jail within 48 hours, or we’ll target Sderot again, Ma’ariv reported Friday.

The ultimatum was issued by a senior in the Salafi terror group, Abu Bakr al-Maqdisi, who declared on his Facebook page: “We presented to Hamas a 48 hour ultimatum which they did not obey so we hit Sderot. Now we give them another 48 hours to release our activists from Hamas jail.”

Aknaf Bait al-Maqdis, an ISIS affiliate, was one of two groups who claimed responsibility for the Sderot rocket, with the declaration: “The shooting was part of our ongoing efforts against the Jewish enemies of Allah, as well as revenge for the arrest of our people by Hamas.”

Another, less well know group, Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, also claimed responsibility for the same rocket. There are several warring Islamist group in the Gaza Strip, which are in constant conflict with the Hamas government. Last week, five Salafi terrorists were arrested by police in Rafah and in Gaza City.

Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi told Ma’ariv it would be “unacceptable” for his town to become the battleground for various Gazan factions to fight each other. “Sderot is not Gaza’s gun fodder,” he said. “If there’s no quiet in Sderot, there must be no quiet in Gaza either. I count on the prime minister, the defense minister and the IDF to shortcut this pattern.”

The terms “Salafist jihadist” and “Jihadist-Salafism” were coined by scholar Gilles Kepel in 2002, to describe “a hybrid Islamist ideology” developed by international Islamist volunteers in the 1980s’ Afghan anti-Soviet jihad, organized largely by the CIA. Since then these hybrid Islamists have spread across the Middle East and North Africa, beheading and exploding their path to divine redemption. Three or four such groups planted themselves in the Gaza Strip and northern Sinai.

SnyderTalk Comment:

This is not an unusual practice in the Middle East.  A Salafi terror group gave Hamas 48 hours to release Salafi prisoners that are being held by Hamas, or they would attack Israel.

Some will wonder why they made such a peculiar threat.  If Hamas is holding some of their brothers as prisoners, why not attack Hamas?

The answer is simple.  By attacking Israel, they are inviting an Israeli response.  Since Hamas is the government in charge of Gaza, they are expected to keep law and order.  If they fail to do that, they open themselves up for reprisal.

Hamas is preparing for war with Israel right now.  They are building terror tunnels and stockpiling weapons, but they aren’t ready to fight yet.  They don’t want a Salafi group to provoke a premature war, so the threat is meaningful.

Over the years, Israeli leaders have made some very bad decisions.  The best example is the decision made by Prime Minister Eshkol in 1967 not to take complete control of the Temple Mount at the end of the Six-Day War.   Israel could have done it, but didn’t.  I’m positive that Israel’s failure to do the right thing in 1967 registered with Yahweh in a big way.

In my opinion, next in line is Ariel Sharon’s decision to unilaterally withdraw from Gaza.  That ushered in Hamas, and Israel has had nothing but trouble sense then.

Next in line is Israel’s decision not to eliminate Hamas during one of several operations/mini-wars that have occurred since Hamas took control of Gaza.  Israel never should have given up control of Gaza.  It was inviting trouble.

I’m not sure where to place this one, but signing the Oslo Peace Accord ranks near the top.  Palestinians (Hamas and Fatah) have vowed to annihilate Israel.  Oslo gave birth to the Two-State Solution.  It’s nothing more than a land for peace deal and it won’t work.  All of the evidence says that it can’t work.  Israel’s problems have intensified since Oslo was signed, and it’s not over yet.

At the root of most of Israel’s problems today, you will find bad choices relating to land.  Since Yahweh promised that land to Abraham and his descendants through Isaac and Jacob/Israel, no one has the authority to use it as a bargaining chip.  It’s foolish to believe otherwise.  Still, they try, and each time they fail.

Just like the rest of us, Israeli leaders have a long way to go in learning to have faith in Yahweh.  I won’t be surprised if most of them don’t get it until He returns.

Sukkot: The Festival of Tabernacles or the Feast of Booths

Leviticus 23: 33-44:

33 Again Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, 34 “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘On the fifteenth of this seventh month is the Feast of Booths for seven days to Yahweh. 35 On the first day is a holy convocation; you shall do no laborious work of any kind. 36 For seven days you shall present an offering by fire to Yahweh. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation and present an offering by fire to Yahweh; it is an assembly. You shall do no laborious work.

37 These are the appointed times of Yahweh which you shall proclaim as holy convocations, to present offerings by fire to Yahweh—burnt offerings and grain offerings, sacrifices and drink offerings, each day’s matter on its own day—38 besides those of the Sabbaths of Yahweh, and besides your gifts and besides all your votive and freewill offerings, which you give to Yahweh.

39 On exactly the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when you have gathered in the crops of the land, you shall celebrate the feast of Yahweh for seven days, with a rest on the first day and a rest on the eighth day. 40 Now on the first day you shall take for yourselves the foliage of beautiful trees, palm branches and boughs of leafy trees and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before Yahweh your Elohim for seven days. 41 You shall thus celebrate it as a feast to Yahweh for seven days in the year. It shall be a perpetual statute throughout your generations; you shall celebrate it in the seventh month. 42 You shall live in booths for seven days; all the native-born in Israel shall live in booths, 43 so that your generations may know that I had the sons of Israel live in booths when I brought them out from the land of Egypt. I am Yahweh your Elohim.’” 44 So Moses declared to the sons of Israel the appointed times of Yahweh.

Zechariah 14: 1-21

1 Behold, a day is coming for Yahweh when the spoil taken from you will be divided among you. 2 For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city. 3 Then Yahweh will go forth and fight against those nations, as when He fights on a day of battle. 4 In that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which is in front of Jerusalem on the east; and the Mount of Olives will be split in its middle from east to west by a very large valley, so that half of the mountain will move toward the north and the other half toward the south. 5 You will flee by the valley of My mountains, for the valley of the mountains will reach to Azel; yes, you will flee just as you fled before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then Yahweh, my Elohim, will come, and all the holy ones with Him!

6 In that day there will be no light; the luminaries will dwindle. 7 For it will be a unique day which is known to Yahweh, neither day nor night, but it will come about that at evening time there will be light.

8 And in that day living waters will flow out of Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and the other half toward the western sea; it will be in summer as well as in winter.

9 And Yahweh will be king over all the earth; in that day Yahweh will be the only one, and His Name the only one.

10 All the land will be changed into a plain from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem; but Jerusalem will rise and remain on its site from Benjamin’s Gate as far as the place of the First Gate to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s wine presses. 11 People will live in it, and there will no longer be a curse, for Jerusalem will dwell in security.

12 Now this will be the plague with which Yahweh will strike all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem; their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth. 13 It will come about in that day that a great panic from Yahweh will fall on them; and they will seize one another’s hand, and the hand of one will be lifted against the hand of another. 14 Judah also will fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be gathered, gold and silver and garments in great abundance. 15 So also like this plague will be the plague on the horse, the mule, the camel, the donkey and all the cattle that will be in those camps.

16 Then it will come about that any who are left of all the nations that went against Jerusalem will go up from year to year to worship the King, Yahweh Sabaoth, and to celebrate Sukkot. 17 And it will be that whichever of the families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, Yahweh Sabaoth, there will be no rain on them. 18 If the family of Egypt does not go up or enter, then no rain will fall on them; it will be the plague with which Yahweh smites the nations who do not go up to celebrate Sukkot. 19 This will be the punishment of Egypt, and the punishment of all the nations who do not go up to celebrate Sukkot.

20 In that day there will be inscribed on the bells of the horses, “Holy to Yahweh.” And the cooking pots in Yahweh’s house will be like the bowls before the altar. 21 Every cooking pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be holy to Yahweh Sabaoth; and all who sacrifice will come and take of them and boil in them. And there will no longer be a Canaanite in the house of Yahweh Sabaoth in that day.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
