Giulio Meotti—The Israel-Bashing Industry’s “Intellectuals”:

What is the only country about which can be said that its very existence is disputed? Clue: Not Zimbabwe, not Tuvalu, not even overrun Tibet. Which country’s boundaries, bought with blood in wars initiated by others, are challenged by all nations, who now seem determined to destroy it through boycotts, unjust defamation and purported “laws” that are applied to no other nation?

Which country fully respects the rights of women and every kind of ethnic, religious and sexual minorities, notwithstanding that it is condemned at the United Nations for being “the worst violator of women’s rights” — worse than Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan, China, Saudi Arabia, Iran and Sudan?

Which country provides its own enemy with water, electricity, food and medical treatment? Its military, to avoid enemy civilian casualties, warns its enemy to evacuate buildings before attacking them, and — instead of simply carpet bombing the enemy as all other nations do, including most democracies — sends its own soldiers possibly to die in ground operations?

The country is Israel — the only country that even famous writers, intellectuals and Nobel laureates target, demonize and criminalize.

There was a time when Nobel laureates for Literature, such as the German Heinrich Böll, the French Jean-Paul Sartre and the Italian Eugenio Montale, rushed to denounce injustice. Earlier, in the name of best Europe’s values — justice, freedom and solidarity — they condemned the threats to the State of Israel’s existence.

But today, these novelists hold a deep, uninformed, irrational hatred towards the same place. Instead of backing the only country that gives full rights to all its citizens, they are instrumental in attacking not only Israel but the Jewish people. In Germany, Hitler’s Mein Kampf is the new best-seller. In Europe today, you can even find a great number of books that wipe Israel off the map. And a provincial council near Glasgow, West Dunbartonshire, banned Israeli books from local libraries.

SnyderTalk Comment: A few Israel-bashers may be “intellectuals”, but they aren’t very smart.

Israel is a surrogate for Yahweh.  Bashing Israel is bashing Him.

If A=B and B=C, then A=C.

Bashing Yahweh is stupid.

1: Financial TimesFor Merkel, Erdogan is a bitter pill to swallow for migrant pact:

Among the many pills that chancellor Angela Merkel has had to swallow in pursuit of a Europe-wide solution to the refugee crisis none has been as bitter as having to deal with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

After keeping Mr Erdogan at arm’s length for a decade, Ms Merkel has had to push aside her reservations about his authoritarian approach, Islamisation policies and violent conflict with Turkey’s Kurdish minority.

She has acceded to his demands for cash, visa liberalisation, and some progress in Turkey’s long drawn-out EU membership talks. All are included in the controversial deal that the EU and Turkey are negotiating under which Ankara would help Ms Merkel reduce EU refugee inflows by taking back migrants from Greece.

“This is pure realpolitik,” says Kristian Brakel, head of the Henrich Böll Foundation, a German research group in Istanbul. “Angela Merkel wants a pragmatic deal. But it is difficult to deal with a Turkey that has been moving away from Europe and feels spurned by Europe.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Europeans have been spurning Turkey because they are leery about people like Erdogan and the willingness of the Turkish people to put them in positions of power.

Erdogan is evidence that their misgivings are justified.

Europeans are right to be concerned about aligning themselves with people who think like Adolf Hitler. Merkel will regret the day she decided to make a deal with Erdogan.  So will everyone else in Europe.

What’s happening in Europe should be a wakeup call for people in the U.S.

2: Los Angeles TimesUC Merced attacker was inspired by Islamic State and likely ‘self-radicalized,’ FBI says:

A man who stabbed four people at UC Merced last year before he was fatally shot by police appears to have been inspired by the militant group Islamic State but acted alone, the FBI said Thursday.

The FBI released a statement saying a review of Faisal Mohammad’s electronic devices found that he drew inspiration from terrorist propaganda and may have been “self-radicalized” before the Nov. 4, 2015, attack.

“His laptop contained pro-ISIL propaganda, and he had visited ISIL and other extremist websites in the weeks prior to his attack,” the agency said, using an acronym for the extremist group, which is also called ISIS.

The FBI said Mohammad, a freshman at the university from Santa Clara, began his preparations for the rampage at least a week beforehand. No information was found that showed he was helped or directed by another person or group in carrying out the stabbings, the FBI said.

SnyderTalk Comment: Ideas can’t be defeated with guns unless we are willing to kill everyone who harbors them.  We won’t do that.

Ideas are defeated by people like you and me who are willing to tell the truth.  That’s something Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton haven’t been willing to do.

The truth is simple: ISIS and other Islamist groups are the face, heart, and soul of Islam.  They take the Quran seriously.  Ordinary peaceful Muslims (OPMs) don’t.  OPMs are Muslims in name only.

By the way, I have never seen or heard the acronym OPM used in connection with Islam before.  You saw it here first.

In business slang, OPM stands for “other people’s money”.  It refers to borrowed money that’s invested to make more money.

3: Fox NewsCaptured American ISIS fighter says, ‘I was not thinking straight’:

A Virginia man who joined ISIS and surrendered to Kurdish Peshmerga fighters earlier this week has expressed regret for entering the terror group’s self-proclaimed caliphate, saying he “made a bad decision” and “was not thinking straight.”

In an interview broadcast on the Kurdistan 24 news station, Mohamad Jamal Khweis, 26, said he had made his way to the ISIS-held city of Mosul, Iraq with an unidentified woman whom he had met in Turkey while traveling.

“We spent some time together, and she said that she is from Mosul, Iraq,” Khweis said. He added the pair traveled from Istanbul to Mosul by bus and private vehicle, arriving on Jan. 16.

“On the way there I regretted [my decision], and I wanted to go back home after things didn’t work out and saw myself living in such an environment,” Khweis said.

4: RT#JusticeForKurds: RT calls on UN to probe Turkey’s alleged killing of Kurdish civilians:

RT has launched a petition calling for a UNHRC-led investigation into claims of alleged mass killing of Kurdish civilians. It is said to have been committed by the Turkish military during Ankara’s crackdown on Kurds in the country’s southeast.

An RT crew visited Cizre in Turkey’s Sirnak province following reports of a brutal military crackdown on the civilian population in the area. It allegedly included slaughtering of hundreds of civilians trapped in basements. The reports which surfaced in February stated that some 150 people were burned to death.

RT’s William Whiteman witnessed shocking scenes of destruction in the southeastern Turkish town, and collected horrifying accounts of an alleged massacre of Kurdish civilians there.

Witnesses who survived the offensive by the Turkish military provided Whiteman with terrifying details on what had happened in the now-devastated area, and showed the location of the alleged mass killing.

5: Yves Mamou—France: Jihad Infecting Army, Police

According to a confidential memo, dated January 2015, from the anti-terrorist unit of the French interior ministry, France is already host to 8,250 radical Islamists (a 50% increase in one year).

Some of these Islamists have gone to Syria to join the Islamic State (IS); others have infiltrated all levels of society, starting with the police and the armed forces.

A leaked confidential memo from the Department of Public Security, published by Le Parisien, details 17 cases of police officers radicalized between 2012 and 2015. Particularly noted were the police officers who listen to and broadcast Muslim chants while on patrol.

Some of these police officers have openly refused to protect synagogues or to observe a minute of silence to commemorate the deaths of victims of terrorist attacks.

SnyderTalk Comment: As I have said, Europe as we knew it is history.

“The glory which You have given Me I have given to them, that they may be one, just as We are one; I in them and You in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, so that the world may know that You sent Me, and loved them, even as You have loved Me. Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.” (John 17: 22-24)
