Kobi Michael and Oded Eran—Escalation in Jerusalem:

Recent weeks have seen escalation in the security situation in Jerusalem, with an emphasis on the Arab neighborhoods near the Temple Mount. Cases of stone throwing have become a matter of daily routine in some Jerusalem neighborhoods, particularly Armon Hanatziv, which borders Sur Baher. On Rosh Hashanah, an Israeli citizen was killed after his car was hit by stones reportedly thrown by residents of Sur Baher. In addition to the deteriorating security situation and the increased friction between the Israeli police and Palestinian rioters in the bordering neighborhoods and along several main arteries in Jerusalem and the roads leading to the capital, the Temple Mount is marked by escalating violent confrontation. Pictures broadcast on television of riots over Rosh Hashanah at the Temple Mount led Arab leaders to express concern and protest; King Abdullah of Jordan referred to potential consequences for bilateral Jordan-Israel relations.

More than any other single issue, the Temple Mount embodies the dispute at the core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the contradictory interests of the many actors involved. Escalation on the Temple Mount harms Israel, which seeks to be regarded as the sovereign authority responsible for freedom of worship there and access to all. Israel faces a dilemma, however, between its desire to maintain order on the site and prevent violent Palestinian groups from gaining control over it, and concern over the recourse to increased force and the subsequent effect on international relations. The escalation also affects Jordan, which is unable to exert influence on the Palestinian groups inciting the population, even as the kingdom seeks to portray itself as the custodian of the Muslim interest in the Muslim sites in Jerusalem. The escalation also damages the formal Palestinian leadership, i.e., Fatah and Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, and plays into the hands of Hamas, parts of the Islamic movement in Israel (especially the northern faction), and external parties, including Qatar and Turkey, which seek to exploit the events in order to reinforce their standing in the bloc of Islamic countries.

Although their respective essential interests are being damaged, the parties involved find themselves in a trap from which it is difficult to escape. The government of Israel is reluctant to forbid right wing politicians to visit the Temple Mount at sensitive times, because each such measure is interpreted as Israeli weakness and an achievement for the inciters on the Temple Mount, and makes the government a ready target for those who accuse it of not insisting on Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem and conceding Judaism’s connection to its holiest site. For its part, the PA is unable to exert any measurable influence on the developments, except by creating a more inciting or calming atmosphere (it usually chooses incitement). Any effort by the PA to lower tensions on the Temple Mount is severely criticized by its bitter rival, Hamas, which wishes to exacerbate tension in order to subvert the PA’s legitimacy as the leader of the Palestinian struggle, and in order to undermine its existence.

Douglas Altabef: Fighting a Losing Battle on the Temple Mount— If the Temple Mount were writ large as the entire State of Israel, there is little doubt that we would be flooded with cries about how we are on the verge of losing our country. There would be the intense condemnation of the lack of Israeli resolve, of vision, of the willingness to stand up and defend what is ours. Focus back on this small, but existentially crucial piece of real estate, and we need to realize that all of these same accusations are validly aimed at Israel’s handling of the Temple Mount. The bottom line is that until we stand up, shout, “Enough!” and clearly articulate not only our sovereignty over the Mount, not only our refusal to abide Arab verbal and physical intimidation, not to mention rioting, but also our own demands for shared, respected and unimpeded access by Jews and Christians, as well as Muslims, we are fighting a losing battle.

Times of Israel Staff—US Jewish group pans UN’s ‘one-sided’ Temple Mount critique:

  • The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations on Friday lambasted the UN Security Council’s statement about violence on the Temple Mount issued Thursday. The compound is the holiest site in Judaism, the site of the biblical temples. Under long-standing regulations introduced by Israel after the 1967 war, Jews are allowed to visit but cannot pray there.
  • Stephen Greenberg, Chairman, and Malcolm Hoenlein, CEO of the Conference of Presidents, said it was “unacceptable that the members of the United Nations Security Council continue to lend themselves to the denial and denigration of the Jewish connection to its holiest site as well as the historic associations of Christians to the Temple Mount.” They criticized the Security Council for neglecting to mention “that the violence was organized and initiated by Palestinians.”
  • “President Abbas’ declaration that ‘we cannot allow the filthy feet of the Jews to desecrate al-Aqsa,’ is outrageous and an invitation to further escalation of the assaults. The Security Council did not find it worthwhile to mention, let alone condemn, these instigations by the head of the Palestinian Authority.”
  • “His periodic resorting to bigoted and charged statements, including fraudulent charges on the internet, that al-Aqsa is under siege, arouses passions, not only in Jerusalem but throughout the Arab and Muslim world. Abbas knows full well that this is a baseless charge and can result in injuries and death. Yet he is never held to account by the same people who regularly condemn Israel on any pretext.”
  • The COP leaders called on the Security Council “to end its biased approach” and give more accurate accounts of events by “ascribing responsibility to the parties who initiate and exploit violence and hatred for political and extremist ends.”

Kevin Freking and Julie Pace: GOP wants to broaden appeal; will candidates get in the way?— The Republican Party’s plan to broaden its appeal with minority groups is clashing at times with comments from some of its presidential aspirants. Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson says he believes that Islam is inconsistent with the Constitution and “I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation.” Carson’s comments, aired Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” brought a quick rebuke from the head of the Democratic National Committee and a major advocacy group for Muslims, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which noted that the Constitution expressly bars a religious test for those seeking public office.

SnyderTalk Comment: When you cut through the haze, broadening their appeal means that the Republican Party wants to be seen by minority groups as an alternative to the Democrat Party.  Traditionally, we have meant African Americans when we talked about minority groups, but not anymore.  Today, minority groups include Muslims, Latinos, homosexuals, transsexuals, etc., etc., etc.  One day it might include those who believe that man-boy sex relationships are okay, that little girls should be able to engage in consensual sex with anyone of any age, and that sex between humans and animals should not be illegal.

Some of you probably think that I’m being overly dramatic, but I’m not.  Those groups already exist, and they are waiting for the day when they are next in line for broad acceptance.  They have been inspired by Barack Obama’s championing of the LGBT agenda, and they know that if things continue as they are, it’s just a matter of time before they will be at the front of the line.  It’s the nature of political and societal change.

I’ve said this before: I am not a Republican.  Right now the Republican Party is on more solid ground than the Democrat Party, but I’m not naïve.  In due course, barring some unforeseen circumstance Republicans will go the way of Democrats.  That’s why it’s essential for us to understand what individual candidates believe, and that’s not easy.

Take Al Gore, for example.  When he ran for Congress from Tennessee in the late-1970s, he was a hardcore anti-abortion candidate and a darling of the political right in the Democrat Party.  When he ran for the Senate from Tennessee in the mid-1980s, he was still a died-in-the-wool anti-abortion candidate.  By the time he decided that he should be president in the late-1980s, he had changed.  Then he said that he was personally opposed to abortion but that he supported a woman’s right to choose.

That’s Democrat speak for “anything goes”.  For most politicians who are candidates in national elections, winning requires saying the right words in the right order.  What they believe in most is getting elected and re-elected.

The Democrat Party lost its moorings a long time ago.  The Republican Party isn’t far behind.  It won’t be long before they catch up.

One day in the not-too-distant future, I wouldn’t be surprised if a Democrat candidate said, “I love my dog, too.  I don’t want to have sex with her, but who am I to stand in the way of those who feel differently.  That’s a matter of personal choice, and I support a person’s right to choose.”  If it works (i.e., if that person is elected) Republicans will follow suit quickly.  It’s the nature of politics.

Again, I’m not exaggerating.  I think that day is coming.  Remember that you heard it here.

Ted Cruz has been telling us that Republican leaders in Congress are “weenies”.  He’s right.  With majorities in the House and the Senate, Republicans have not done a thing to change this nation’s direction.  If they wanted to, they could and they would.  A president can’t stop a determined Congress.  Most Congressional Republicans don’t want to change things.  That’s the bottom line.

These are moral issues, and they matter.  It’s about right and wrong, not left and right.  Get to know your candidates, and hold them accountable.  That’s what Cruz is saying, and that’s one reason I like him.

If you listen carefully to the pundits, you’ll learn that they don’t believe anyone with real conviction can win the 2016 presidential election.  Regrettably, they may be right.

We’ll see.

First, we’ll see if Republicans are willing to nominate a candidate with conviction.

Next, we’ll see if the nation is willing to elect that person.

Finally, we’ll see if that person really has conviction or if he or she was just saying what needed to be said to win an election.

Wayne Allyn Root: Trump— I wrote a book titled “The Murder of the Middle Class” about the unholy conspiracy between big government, big business and big media. They all benefit by the billions of dollars from this partnership, and it’s in all of their interests to protect one another. It’s one for all and all for one. It’s a heck of a filthy relationship that makes everyone filthy rich — everyone except the American people. We get ripped off. We’re the patsies. But for once, the powerful socialist cabal and the corrupt crony capitalists are scared. I’ve never seen them this outraged, this vicious, this motivated or this coordinated. Never in all my years in politics have I seen anything like the way the mad dogs of hell have been unleashed on Donald Trump.

SnyderTalk Comment: This article makes a lot of sense and suggests that Donald Trump may be a viable candidate.  Despite what I’ve said in the past, I’m not ruling him out at this point.  Please take the time to read this article.

Louis Rene Beres: Core legal shortcomings of Obama’s Iran agreement— A man holds up a sign as he and several thousand other protestors demonstrate during a rally opposing the nuclear deal with Iran in Times Square. US President Barack Obama’s Iran nuclear agreement has been widely criticized on military or strategic grounds. For the most part, these pertinent critiques have been well-deserved. In brief, as any informed observer must readily conclude, there is little doubt that the pact would sustain or perhaps even accelerate already-ongoing Iranian nuclearization.

SnyderTalk Comment: There is no shortage of shortcomings with the Iran agreement.

Douglas Murray—Saudi Arabia: World’s Human Rights Sewer:

  • Ali Mohammed al-Nimr, sentenced to be crucified, was accused of participating in banned protests and firearms offenses — despite a complete lack of evidence on the latter charge, and he was denied access to lawyers. Al-Nimr is also alleged by human rights groups to have been tortured and then forced into signing a confession while in custody.
  • Not only are the Saudi authorities preparing to crucify someone — in 2015 — whom they tortured into making a confession; they are preparing to crucify someone who was a minor at the time of arrest.
  • Alas not a week goes by without Saudi Arabia demonstrating to the world why they retain their reputation as one of the world’s foremost human rights sewers.
  • Crucifixion is a punishment which, it would appear, is not only Sharia-compliant but also — we must assume — Geneva-compliant.

Jerusalem Post Editorial: Basic Protection—Alexander Levlovitz, 64, was murdered in cold-blood by Arab stone-throwers in Jerusalem last week. Stone-throwers are terrorists in every sense of the word. Hurling rocks at moving vehicles is invariably an extreme act of malice aforethought. There are no pacifist and compassionate stoners. An act of intentional premeditated violence cannot be downplayed as nonviolent. The tendency internationally is often to belittle the crime of stone-throwing and regard it as an expression of youthful exuberance, which is how the Arab communities which send out brainwashed youths to target Jewish traffic like to present things. Unthinkably, stoning Jews has become a popular sport which is glorified in Arab society as heroic. Attacks on innocent travelers mustn’t be belittled merely because the weapon of choice isn’t a firearm. Often large rocks are hurled, heavy cement blocks and even outright boulders – and stoning attacks have claimed many lives over the years.

Daily News & Analysis: Store Gmail, Whatsapp communication for 90 days or else you could be jailed, says govt’s new draft policy—Every message that you send–be it through WhatsApp, SMS, Email or any such service–must be mandatorily stored in plain text format for 90 days and made available on demand to security agencies under a draft New Encryption Policy that has triggered privacy concerns. Legal action that could also include imprisonment has been proposed in the draft policy unveiled by the government for failure to store and produce on demand the encrypted messages sent from any mobile device or computer. The policy also wants everyone to hand over their encryption keys to the government.

SnyderTalk Comment: This proposal deserves our attention.  Email and social media have become tools for terrorists.  For that reason alone, their importance shouldn’t be underestimated, but the government can go too far.

That said, the law is clear on this point: no one has a right to destroy evidence of a crime.  That’s a lesson I hope Hillary Clinton has to learn the hard way.

Antonis Galanopoulos, Rodney Jefferson, and Matthew Campbell: Greece Shows How Investors Should Think Twice on Opinion Polls—It was too close to call right up until polling day, when Alexis Tsipras won a resounding victory. Greek voters became the latest electorate to blindside pollsters on Sunday when they put the Syriza leader back into power by a margin forecast by no one. Following surprise results in the U.K. general election in May and in Indonesia a year earlier, the Greek outcome adds to growing evidence that political polling is in crisis.

SnyderTalk Comment: Things aren’t what they appear to be.  That’s what this article tells us.

Empirical polling data is suspect.  Now more than ever, we need to see through the fog.  That means we need to be informed.  Reliance on a few trusted sources isn’t good enough.

Consider anti-Semitism in Europe, for example.  The data suggests that the problem is growing.  I have a hunch that it’s much worse than we are being led to believe.  The migrant crisis threatens to elevate it to a level unprecedented since World War II.

Now consider the per barrel price of oil.  It’s been falling.  Goldman Sachs says that it may drop to the $20 per barrel range.  Many experts are telling us that consumers benefit from falling oil prices.  To a point, that’s true, but few of them are telling us that $20 oil will bankrupt many energy producers.  Because of their huge debt loads, their insolvency will threaten several very large banks.  If that happens, we will have a crisis on our hands that dwarfs the 2008 housing crisis.  That won’t be good for consumers or investors.

Trusting Yahweh is always good policy.  He’s the only one we can trust without reservation.

Pini Dunner: This Yom Kippur, We Face Apocalyptic Times— More and more, I am beginning to feel that we live in apocalyptic times. I am far from being a prophet of doom, nor do I generally take a pessimistic view of the world around me, but current events seem so jarring and unusual that they demand to be noticed. I grew up hearing about how people sleepwalk into disaster, and if only European Jewry in the 1930s had been more proactive in looking for solutions to the evident impending doom — and if only the allied powers had not been so sanguine about Hitler and later Stalin — so much tragedy could have been averted.

SnyderTalk Comment: I have the same feeling.  I fear that people who call themselves Christians are sleepwalking into disaster again.

Mark Langfan: President Trump will Undo Obama’s Iran-First Policy—Obama doesn’t have a dual-loyalty problem regarding the United States and Iran; Obama’s loyalty is to Iran.  Obama’s policy is Iran first, second, and third, no matter how disastrous and harmful Iran is to the national security of the United States and the free world.  But like a magician who conjures a magic act, levitating a woman who, when the magic act is over, falls to earth, Obama’s Iran-First policy is a magic act that only works because Obama is currently President of the United States. Obama’s term ends in 1 year and 40 days, and his Iran-First policy will end in 1 year and 40 days.  And the man who will erase everything Obama did to harm US national and domestic security will be Donald Trump. If it was thought that Barack Obama was qualified enough to be President of the United States in 2008, Donald Trump has to be super-qualified-plus to be President of the United States in 2016.

SnyderTalk Comment: Is anti-Obama sentiment in the U.S. strong enough to elect Donald Trump?  Maybe.

Would President Trump be good for the U.S.?  Maybe.

Trump is not a politician.  That’s for sure, and that’s one thing in his favor.

Perry Bacon: Inside the Fall of Scott Walker: Why Did GOP Star Burn Out in 2016 Race?— Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s decision to drop out of the presidential race on Monday came as he entered the kind of death spiral struggling campaigns often do. The candidate who had once led in polls in Iowa was now well behind in the Hawkeye State and outside of the top 10 GOP candidates in some national surveys. He was potentially in danger of not qualifying for the next GOP debate. And with donors unwilling to give money to a candidate who appeared to be a loser, Walker was running low on campaign funds. But why was Walker struggling to raise money and maintain his standing in polls? Because the second-term Wisconsin governor was supposed to be the man who could satisfy both wings of the Republican Party but ended up pleasing neither.

SnyderTalk Comment: I was not aware that Scott Walker was his own campaign manager.  That’s not good.

I’m reminded of something that a friend who is a judge told me: “A lawyer who represents himself in court has a fool for a client.”  I think the same thing can be said about a politician who serves as his own campaign manager.

A big part of Obama’s problem is that he thinks he knows more than anyone else about everything. Evidently, Walker suffers from the same malady.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Exodus 23

14 “Three times a year you shall celebrate a feast to Me. 15 You shall observe the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days you are to eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time in the month Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt. And none shall appear before Me empty-handed. 16 Also you shall observe the Feast of the Harvest of the first fruits of your labors from what you sow in the field; also the Feast of the Ingathering at the end of the year when you gather in the fruit of your labors from the field. 17 Three times a year all your males shall appear before Adonai Yahweh.”

18 “You shall not offer the blood of My sacrifice with leavened bread; nor is the fat of My feast to remain overnight until morning.”

19 “You shall bring the choice first fruits of your soil into the house of Yahweh your God. You are not to boil a young goat in the milk of its mother.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Read His Name is Yahweh.

There is a huge difference between not boiling a young goat in the milk of its mother and not putting milk and meat in the same refrigerator.  The first is from Yahweh and the second is made up.  It’s of no account whatsoever.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
