September 10, 2015 SnyderTalk: Conservative dissent is brewing inside the Vatican

1--Intro Covering Israel and ME

“For from the rising of the sun even to its setting, My Name will be great among the Gentiles, and in every place incense is going to be offered to My Name, and a grain offering that is pure; for My Name will be great among the Gentiles,” says Yahweh Sabaoth. (Malachi 1: 11)

Anthony Faiola—Conservative dissent is brewing inside the Vatican:

VATICAN CITY — On a sunny morning earlier this year, a camera crew entered a well-appointed apartment just outside the 9th-century gates of Vatican City. Pristinely dressed in the black robes and scarlet sash of the princes of the Roman Catholic Church, the Wisconsin-born Cardinal Raymond Burke sat in his elaborately upholstered armchair and appeared to issue a warning to Pope Francis.

A staunch conservative and Vatican bureaucrat, Burke had been demoted by the pope a few months earlier, but it did not take the fight out of him. Francis had been backing a more inclusive era, giving space to progressive voices on divorced Catholics as well as gays and lesbians. In front of the camera, Burke said he would “resist” liberal changes — and seemed to caution Francis about the limits of his authority. “One must be very attentive regarding the power of the pope,” Burke told the French news crew.

Papal power, Burke warned, “is not absolute.” He added, “The pope does not have the power to change teaching [or] doctrine.”

Burke’s words belied a growing sense of alarm among strict conservatives, exposing what is fast emerging as a culture war over Francis’s papacy and the powerful hierarchy that governs the Roman Catholic Church.

SnyderTalk Comment: The friend who sent me this article said this:

“A lawless pope meets a lawless president and all you need is the man of lawlessness to show up…”

That’s an interesting take on the developing crisis among people of faith.  Choosing between Yahweh and the world has never been easy.  You can bet that it will be increasingly difficult in the days ahead.

It’s time to take Yahweh seriously.  This is what He said:

“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.’ Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.” (Matthew 7: 21-27)

When the Messiah spoke these words, the New Testament didn’t exist.  He was talking about the Old Testament (i.e., the Tanach).  It’s as important now as it ever was.

See “Pope Francis makes annulment of marriages cheaper and easier”:

Pope Francis on Tuesday radically revised the process by which Catholics may annul their marriages, streamlining steps that many in the church considered too cumbersome and costly.

The move is the latest in a series of reforms by Francis as he seeks to make the church more responsive to the real needs of lay Catholics, especially those who have long felt marginalized by the hierarchy. Without the annulments, Catholics who remarry are not allowed to receive Holy Communion, which many describe as a painful exclusion from the church’s chief sacrament.

This is what the Messiah said about divorce:

1 When Jesus had finished these words, He departed from Galilee and came into the region of Judea beyond the Jordan; 2 and large crowds followed Him, and He healed them there.

3 Some Pharisees came to Jesus, testing Him and asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any reason at all?” 4 And He answered and said, “Have you not read that He who created them from the beginning MADE THEM MALE AND FEMALE, 5 and said, ‘FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” 7 They said to Him, “Why then did Moses command to GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE AND SEND her AWAY?” 8 He said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart Moses permitted you to divorce your wives; but from the beginning it has not been this way. 9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for immorality, and marries another woman commits adultery.”

10 The disciples said to Him, “If the relationship of the man with his wife is like this, it is better not to marry.” 11 But He said to them, “Not all men can accept this statement, but only those to whom it has been given. 12 For there are eunuchs who were born that way from their mother’s womb; and there are eunuchs who were made eunuchs by men; and there are also eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. He who is able to accept this, let him accept it.” (Matthew 19: 1-12)

When it comes to divorce or annulment, the pope has no standing.  His pronouncements don’t mean a thing.  Neither do the laws of the land.  Yahweh has exclusive jurisdiction in these matters.

An annulment is a way of pretending that a marriage never took place when it actually did.  It’s an attempted end-run around the divorce issue.  It’s ridiculous because it always results in a loss.  The fact that some lay Catholics feel marginalized is irrelevant.

This is Yahweh speaking:

“This is another thing you do: you cover the altar of Yahweh with tears, with weeping and with groaning, because He no longer regards the offering or accepts it with favor from your hand. Yet you say, ‘For what reason?’ Because Yahweh has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant. But not one has done so who has a remnant of the Spirit. And what did that one do while he was seeking a godly offspring? Take heed then to your spirit, and let no one deal treacherously against the wife of your youth. For I hate divorce,” says Yahweh, the God of Israel, “and him who covers his garment with wrong,” says Yahweh Sabaoth. “So take heed to your spirit, that you do not deal treacherously.” (Malachi 2: 13-16)

Yahweh has made His position on divorce crystal clear.  This part of what he said should be an eye-opener for anyone who is considering divorce:

“But not one has done so who has a remnant of the Spirit.”

Does that sound like the pope can rewrite Yahweh’s rules?  Not a chance.

Lee Smith: Meet the Iran Lobby— Trita Parsi, the Iranian-born émigré who moved to the United States in 2001 from Sweden, where his parents found refuge before the Islamic Revolution, should be the toast of Washington these days. As I argued in Tablet magazine several years ago, Parsi is an immigrant who in classic American fashion wanted to capitalize on the opportunity to reconcile his new home and his birthplace. And now he’s done it: The founder and president of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), the tip of the spear of the Iran Lobby, has won a defining battle over the direction of American foreign policy. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action not only lifts sanctions on Iran, a goal Parsi has fought for since 1997, but also paves the way for a broader reconciliation between Washington and Tehran across the Middle East. In Washington, to have the policies you advocate implemented with the full backing of the president counts as a huge victory. Winning big like this means power as well as access to more money, which flows naturally to power and augments it—enhancing reputations and offering the ability to reward friends and punish enemies. And yet, Parsi (who declined comment for this story) has got to be frustrated that very few in the halls of American power—either in government or in the media—are celebrating the Iran lobby for its big win. It seems the only thing people can talk about is the big loser in this fight over Middle East policy—the pro-Israel lobby, led by AIPAC. It’s as if Parsi and NIAC had nothing to do with the Obama Administration’s decision to move closer to Iran while further distancing itself from Israel.

SnyderTalk Comment: The world is the big loser.  It’s not painfully obvious yet, but it will be soon enough.

Steve Koppman: The U.S. and the Middle East: Values, anyone?— This is a question to Americans: Should our values — what we believe in — matter at all in foreign policy? This may seem at first glance a ridiculous thing to ask. But the U.S. seems to have evolved recently to Middle East policies close to 100 percent in opposition to traditional core American values, like democracy and national self-determination, from what had previously maybe only been 75 or 80%. Under a President who seemed to promise something very different. We used to say governments derived their just powers from the consent of the governed. That was a defining American belief. Articulated just that way in our founding document, the Declaration of Independence, held up for the last two-and-a-half centuries as a great beacon across the world. Our leadership today implies that values like democracy and national self-determination are “nice to haves” that must be balanced with realpolitik to keep whoever they may define today or tomorrow as our “enemies” at bay.

Henry R. Nau: How Restraint Leads to War— President Obama argues that his nuclear agreement with Iran means “every pathway to a nuclear weapon is cut off.” He says, moreover, that it sets the stage to “incentivize them to behave differently in the region, to be less aggressive, less hostile, more cooperative, to operate the way we expect nations in the international community to behave.” It will be “a lot easier,” he predicts, “to check Iran’s nefarious activities, to push back against the other areas where they operate contrary to our interests or our allies’ interests if they don’t have the bomb.” The approach is a signature feature of Obama’s foreign policy. He has counted on diplomacy in a whole host of other areas to reduce tensions and preempt military conflict. And this approach has failed him repeatedly. He reset relations with Russia—and Moscow annexed Crimea and invaded eastern Ukraine. He launched a strategic partnership with China—and Beijing occupied and built military installations on disputed islands in the East and South China Seas. He extended an open hand to the Muslim world—and radical Islam erupted. Will the agreement with Iran be the next Obama initiative to invite more violence rather than less?

Rick Noack: This map helps explain why some European countries reject refugees, and others love them—As hundreds of Germans held up “Welcome Refugees” signs last weekend, much of Europe watched in bewilderment. “Germany is the only country that is welcoming us,” said Alalie, a 37-year-old from Damascus and one of the thousands of refugees who arrived at the main train station in Munich. Nearly all of the refugees had come from Hungary — a country with restrictive immigration policies and where many said the authorities had treated them inhumanely. But why are there such deep divides within Europe? Why do some countries welcome refugees, while others do everything they can to keep them out? The reasons are many, but one stands out: demographics. In Germany, for instance, a rapidly aging population is becoming increasingly aware of the need to welcome foreigners. Other countries, where the aging trend is much less severe, have fewer incentives to welcome newcomers.

Greg Myre: The Migrant Crisis, By The Numbers—The migrant crisis in Europe and the Middle East lurches from one drama to the next by the day. First it’s a rickety boat floundering in the Mediterranean. Next it’s a new surge of migrants landing on European shores. Suddenly it’s thousands of refugees stranded in an unwelcoming Hungary. The numbers are also changing by the day. Here’s a snapshot of the best and most recent figures as this unfolds: 4.1 Million: The number of Syrians who have fled their country since the country’s civil war began in 2011. These Syrians are the focus of the refugee crisis in the Middle East and in Europe. In addition, an estimated 7.6 million Syrians have been displaced inside their homeland. Combine these two groups and it means that just over half of Syria’s 23 million people have fled or been driven from their homes since the war began, a strikingly high figure for any war.

Shalailah Medhora: Christian refugees from Middle East should be given priority, says Eric Abetz—Christians in the Middle East are “the most persecuted group in the world” and should be given priority in the refugee resettlement process, government Senate leader Eric Abetz has argued. With the Coalition under pressure to take more refugees from Syria and Tony Abbott offering a haven for persecuted minorities, Abetz told reporters on Tuesday that Syrian Christians should be given preference. “I think the Australian people would see a need for that to be a focus,” he said, adding that resettlement should be decided “on the basis of need”. Christians, he argued, were the most needy. “Christians are the most persecuted group in the world, and especially in the Middle East, I think it stands to reason that they would be pretty high up on the priority list for resettlement,” Abetz said.

Douglas Murray—Migration Crisis Killing the European Dream?:

  • These threats hardly align with the EU’s stated ambition of “ever-closer union” between member states. They are a gun to the head of EU integration.
  • The question of “what to do” remains politically toxic for any mainstream Western European politician. During the summer, British Prime Minister David Cameron passingly referred to the “swarm” of migrants at Calais. His political opponents immediately jumped on this and denounced his ‘”offensive” language. What chance is there, however, of proposing the kind of bold thinking we will need to consider in Europe if we keep reducing our response to this crisis to a language game?
  • Professor Paul Collier recently suggested setting up EU-sponsored work-havens in Jordan to ensure Syrian refugees (who comprise 40% of recent EU arrivals) have an incentive to stay in the region.
  • It would make far more sense for EU countries to keep migrants out of Europe while sorting out who they are (most arrivals come without papers) and then assessing the legitimacy of their claim. The EU might consider paying North African countries to provide such holding centres. Tunisia is an obvious possibility, as is Morocco.

SnyderTalk Comment: As inhumane as this may sound, the Europeans are making a terrible mistake, and the pope is cheering them on.  Indiscriminate immigration is thoughtless and dangerous.  The U.S. is doing the same thing.  Radical Islamists see it as a gift.  Maybe all of us should read up on the Trojan War and the Trojan Horse.

As Solomon said, “There is nothing new under the sun.”

Hebrew Nation: Pope Francis Orders All EU Churches To Shelter Muslim Migrants With Terror Ties—Hijrah is the Islamic doctrine of migration, which is a form of stealth jihad. Pope Francis called on Sunday on every European parish and religious community to take in one migrant family each in a gesture of solidarity he said would start in the tiny Vatican state where he lives. “I don’t think you can overstate the importance that the rise of Islamic fundamentalism will have to the rest of the world in the century ahead-especially if, as seems possible, its most fanatical elements get their hands on nuclear and chemical weapons and the means to deliver them against their enemies.”  – Ronald Reagan

SnyderTalk Comment: Stealth jihad is an apt description.  It’s counterintuitive to Western minds, but it’s common knowledge to Eastern thinkers.

Why do you think most Arab countries refuse to accept “Palestinian” refugees?  Those who have accepted them have suffered—Jordan and Lebanon in particular.  Most Arab Muslims regard “Palestinians” as rabble-rousers who make trouble and contribute little or nothing to society.  That’s why they want Israel to take them in.  They see it as a way of bringing about Israel’s demise, and they are right.

See “Palestinians: Turning Refugee Camps into Weapons Warehouses”.  Jihadists know what to do when they settle in Europe.  That should be clear by now, but far too many Europeans still don’t get it.

Burak Kadercan: The Unbearable Lightness of Blaming Erdogan: What Turkey Experts Are Not Telling You— Turkey is making the news more and more frequently due to its foreign policy posture in the Middle East. Such attention creates a vibrant market of its own: “Turkey experts,” including journalists, academics, area specialists, and pundits (many of whom are Turkish citizens), are offering numerous insights about “what is really going on in Turkey.” Most of these analysts focus on one word — a name, actually — to explain the puzzles of Turkish politics to English-speaking audiences: Erdogan. That is, of course, the president of Turkey — Recep Tayyip Erdogan. For example, why is Turkey so ambivalent about the Islamic State? Most will tell you that either Erdogan has long been aiding and abetting the jihadist organization or he is engaging in a political maneuver that will grant him his one true wish, that is, transforming the parliamentarian constitution to a presidential one with him as a super-empowered president. What about Turkey’s recent clashes with the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK)? Many experts will tie this breakdown in the peace process to Erdogan’s incentives to exploit and fuel the ethnic tensions for a handful of votes that he can steal from the ultra-nationalist Nationalist Action Party (MHP) by playing the nationalist card.

SnyderTalk Comment: Turkey is an important player.  It helps to hear people out if they have something meaningful to say.

Simon Johnson: Israel’s important role in the Middle East—It’s sad that the anti-Israel lobby are doing all they can to demonise Israel and its elected leader Binyamin Netanyahu (Letters, 8 September), but their claims and hate-filled rhetoric are without substance. How low will they stoop in their malicious misrepresentation of Israel as the cause, and Netanyahu as the one to blame, for of all the world’s problems? According to their distorted worldview Israel is now responsible for the refugee crisis. I have no doubt that some innocent Palestinians have escaped the oppressive Hamas-led regime in Gaza. They may well have joined the vast groundswell of refugees from war-torn Syria. However, to link the current refugee crisis with Netanyahu’s trip to the UK and the Gaza conflict is a deliberate attempt to imply guilt independent of the facts.

Jack Engelhard: Germany Replenishes Itself With 6 Million Muslims—Bogart and Bergman will “always have Paris.” For the rest of us there is no more Paris. There is no more Europe, and it’s happening awfully fast. Millions, even as we speak, are emptying the hellholes of Syria and Iraq and Afghanistan for the fleshpots of France, Spain, Italy and any other European country that will take them in, and most do so happily or reluctantly. Germany is the prime destination, and Germany appears to welcome the invasion. We have it from various sources (grateful help from Soeren Kern at the Gatestone Institute) that by the end of the year, Germany will have taken in six million new people, mostly Muslims. Do we have to spell it out, what this means – Six Million? No, not necessary. But call it payback. Call it Karma, for the day is nearing for a new anthem to the tune of “The Koran Uber Alles.”

Adam Goldman: A Texas judge compares fear of Islamic State to the ‘Red Scare’— On June 2, U.S. District Court judge Lynn N. Hughes of Houston heard an appeal from federal prosecutors in the case of Asher Khan, who was charged the previous month with conspiracy and attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State. Prosecutors wanted Khan, 20, to remain behind bars while awaiting trial, believing he was a national security threat. Hughes decided house arrest while being monitored with an ankle bracelet was sufficient—and expressed some sharp skepticism about the prosecutors’ argument, at one point asking whether the government would have detained someone during the Cold War for attempting to join the Communist Party of East Germany. Hughes also questioned the connection between the United States and the threat of the Islamic State. After a prosecutor cited the deaths of two U.S. journalists, James Foley and Steven Sotloff, Hughes responded, “The Americans went into territory they [the Islamic State] controlled. No. An American who voluntarily subjects himself to the authority of beheading theological fanatical murderers, that is not against America any more than somebody who robs you in Paris.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Judge Hughes is misguided at best.  See “Terror in U.S. at Highest Level Since 9/11”.

Bassam Tawil—The Fiction of Political Islam:

  • To this day, the Obama administration mourns the fall of Egypt’s Islamist President Morsi, and turns a cold shoulder to forward-looking President el-Sisi, who is (sometimes) trying to take Egypt into the 21st century and extricate Egypt from its economic and societal crisis.
  • Muslim Brotherhood terrorism against the Egyptian regime is a perfect example of how this “political movement” is in reality a terrorist movement whose objective is the violent overthrow of Egypt’s government. The White House, fully aware of the facts, continues hosting senior Muslim Brotherhood officials and shows them respect during consultations about the American Islamic community and U.S. policy in the Middle East.
  • Events in Sinai prove there is no such thing as “political Islam.” There is a radical Islamist leadership that represents itself to the gullible West as “moderate,” preaches violence from mosques, cloaks itself in ideological-religious tradition, and employs Islamist terrorists to attack civilians and Egyptian government targets.
  • It is hard not to conclude, looking at President Obama’s record (ignoring protesters of 2009 in Iran; “I’ve got a pen, and I’ve got a phone”; the dictatorial way the Iran deal is bypassing the democratic process) that in his heart-of-hearts, he is far more committed to supporting extremist Islamist regimes — whether the mullahs of Iran or the Muslim Brotherhood — than to supporting democracy, individual freedoms or human rights.
  • The Europeans are more aware of the situation but woke up too late. As hundreds of thousands of migrants from Muslim lands continue to pour over Europe’s open borders, there is little doubt that radical Islam is poised to take over the West. Islamic communities and terrorist cells continue to mushroom throughout the cities of Europe.
  • The world is beginning to understand that the catastrophes of the Middle East have nothing to do with the resolution of the Palestinian issue but are caused by the innate homicidal tendencies of the Arab rulers and the regional Islamist terrorist organizations.

Dan Margalit: Iran’s fingerprints are everywhere— August may be the hottest month of the year, but hovering above Israel’s violent borders and streets one can see the thick, dark clouds that are associated with winter. Israel’s enemies, however sophisticated, lack a comprehensive mechanism to coordinate their attacks against us. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad has warned Israel it will fire from the Gaza Strip, and this has led the Israel Defense Forces to deploy Iron Dome batteries in the south. Was this threat related to the failing health of detainee Mohammad Allan on his hunger strike? Was Thursday’s salvo on northern Israel by Islamic Jihad elements in Syria a consequence of that threat? I believe there is no direct link. That said, Iran’s fingerprints are everywhere, including in the north. The rockets fired on Thursday were launched from an area ostensibly held by Syrian President Bashar Assad, not the anti-regime insurgents. But Iran has been operating freely in that area.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Exodus 21

12 “He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death. 13 But if he did not lie in wait for him, but God let him fall into his hand, then I will appoint you a place to which he may flee. 14 If, however, a man acts presumptuously toward his neighbor, so as to kill him craftily, you are to take him even from My altar, that he may die.”

15 “He who strikes his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.”

16 “He who kidnaps a man, whether he sells him or he is found in his possession, shall surely be put to death.”

17 “He who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.”

18 “If men have a quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone or with his fist, and he does not die but remains in bed, 19 if he gets up and walks around outside on his staff, then he who struck him shall go unpunished; he shall only pay for his loss of time, and shall take care of him until he is completely healed.”

20 “If a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod and he dies at his hand, he shall be punished. 21 If, however, he survives a day or two, no vengeance shall be taken; for he is his property.”

22 “If men struggle with each other and strike a woman with child so that she gives birth prematurely, yet there is no injury, he shall surely be fined as the woman’s husband may demand of him, and he shall pay as the judges decide.23 But if there is any further injury, then you shall appoint as a penalty life for life,  24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
