Maureen Dowd—Why TV news has lost all its moral authority:

NBC’s anchor Brian Williams is in trouble, but respect for the medium is already gone.

This was a bomb that had been ticking for a while. NBC executives were warned a year ago that Brian Williams was constantly inflating his biography. They were flummoxed over why the leading network anchor felt that he needed Hemingwayesque, bullets-whizzing-by flourishes to puff himself up, sometimes to the point where it was a joke in the news division.

But the caustic media big shots who once roamed the land were gone, and “there was no one around to pull his chain when he got too over-the-top”, as one NBC News reporter put it. It seemed pathological because Williams already had the premier job, so why engage in résumé inflation?

And you don’t get those jobs because of your derring-do. When Williams was declared the heir apparent to Tom Brokaw in 1995, hailed by Jay Leno as “NBC’s stud muffin”, I did a column wondering why TV news programmes only hired pretty white male clones. I asked Williams if he was an anchor android. “Not that I’m aware of,” he said gamely, in his anchor-desk baritone. “I can deny the existence of a factory in the American Midwest that puts out people like me.”

Williams told friends last week that he felt anguished, coming under fire for his false story of coming under fire. Although the NBC anchor had repeated the Iraq war tall tale, ever more baroquely, for more than a decade, when he cited it on his January 30th broadcast during a segment about going to a Rangers game with a retired, decorated soldier who had been on the ground that day when he landed, Williams got smacked down on Facebook.

SnyderTalk Comment: The mainstream media’s lack of moral underpinning is evident in its treatment of Israel.  By and large, Western media titans have become apologists for “Palestinians”.

Their one-sided coverage and fabrications are clear to those who are well-informed.  Regrettably, too few people know what’s actually happening.  They are easy prey for the talking heads and fiction writers who masquerade as news reporters.

Brian Williams got caught red-handed in a miniscule bald-faced lie.  Big lies attract little or no attention most of the time.  I hope things change, but I won’t hold my breath until they do.

Jack Moore: Lack of Co-ordination Leaves EU ‘Vulnerable’ to Jihadists Posing as Refugees— A lack of effective multilateral coordination between European Union member states is leaving the bloc open to infiltration by terrorists, according to experts, as the bloc’s border forces are overwhelmed by the numbers of illegal migrants and refugees attempting to reach Europe. The lack of a coherent strategy on border control between member states is leaving the EU vulnerable to exploitation by people smugglers, as militants are being sent to Europe using “any means at their disposal” with the aim of conducting terror attacks in retaliation for Western involvement in the U.S.-led coalition against groups such as the Islamic State (ISIS). The claim comes after an anonymous ISIS member told BuzzFeed that a number of the terror group’s operatives were being smuggled into Europe via Turkey disguised as refugees from the conflict in Syria.

Zalman Shoval: A wake-up call on Islamist terrorism—British intelligence agency heads generally refrain from making public statements to outside sources, contrast to their Israeli counterparts, and even more so they do not spit in the well they drank from after retiring from their posts. With that said once they are relieved of their official titles the British intelligence chiefs do allow themselves from time to time (usually with authorization, sometimes even motivation from their superiors) to express themselves more freely about subjects they previously were not able to. This is true both for both former MI5 chief Eliza Manningham-Buller and former MI6 (of James Bond fame) head Sir John Sawers. And Sawer’s recent statements were clear and direct: the current chaos and terrorism in the Middle East is a security threat to Europe no less than the Soviet Union was during the Cold War.

Ron Jager: Obama’s denial empowers Islamic state— The fundamental fabrication and rejection of historical, political, and religious truths about the Palestinian Arabs has created a universal discourse inflicted with intellectual myopia enabling the majority of Islamic nations of the world to violate basic human rights of their own people. The nowadays almost automatic acceptance of legitimizing the rejection of truth and denying reality concerning Palestinian Arab terror has created a parallel system of logic and rationality, one for Israel and one for the rest of the world. If the Palestinian Arabs make every effort to attack civilians with either conventional terror or with missile terror and Israel makes every effort to avoid attacking civilians even when used as human shields, yet the symmetry used to describe these parallel events do not differentiate between the two, then one can easily claim that there is no difference between right and wrong, no difference between moral and immoral behavior. The rejection of truth by accepting fundamental Palestinian fabrications will only backfire and create a similar rejection of Western truth and morality as the world attempts to deal with the current barbaric terror campaign conducted by terror organizations claiming to represent Islam. This key confusion has caused intellectual and moral paralysis in the west, playing directly into pathological Islamic culture which makes dialogue impossible. So many Muslims genuinely believe they are under attack by the West, that there is a giant conspiracy to destroy Islam, they perceive their own aggression as legitimate self-defense, and the West’s defense as aggression.

Douglas Murray: Obama Makes Up Facts – Again— The Crusades — gruesome as they were — were not some early outbreak of “Islamophobia.” They were an effort, by Christian nations in Europe, to defend Christians in the Middle East who were being slaughtered by Muslim tribes, and specifically to take back the city of Jerusalem from the Muslim armies who had invaded it. It is a very strange interpretation of history to put the blame for slavery on Christians, but to ignore William Wilberforce, Abraham Lincoln and other Christians who led the world in fighting to abolish it. Slavery is still practiced by Muslims in Mauritania and, as recently seen, by Boko Haram.

Anne Bayefsky: UN’s Jewish Problem— On January 22, 2015 the United Nations General Assembly held its first ever session dedicated to combating anti-Semitism. On January 27 and 28, 2015 the UN marked the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz Birkenau and the “International Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust.” On January 31, 2015, other divisions of the UN started gearing up to indict Israelis for war crimes as a consequence of defending themselves against a genocidal foe. Unfortunately, there is method in this madness. The UN was founded in 1945 on the ashes of the Jewish people, and the motivation for the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights acknowledged the debt in its preamble to the “barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind.” But for 70 years the primary organ of the UN representing all its member states, the General Assembly, never devoted a single meeting to the subject of anti-Semitism. The General Assembly officially allocates days to “jazz” and “yoga,” but focusing the world’s collective energy on combating the world’s oldest hatred never made the list.

Edwin Black: Palestinian Authority Rewards Terrorists for Number of Jews They Kill— Last year, Congressional legislators were astonished to learn that the Palestinian Authority was issuing monthly payouts totaling between $3 and 7 million as salaries and other financial rewards to specific terrorists and their families. The money was channeled, in part, through the Ministry of Prisoners pursuant to the Law of the Prisoner. The law set forth a graduated scale, pegging monthly salaries to the length of Israeli jail sentences, which generally reflects the severity of the crime and the number of people killed and/or injured. Thousands of documents, newly obtained by this reporter through a lawsuit to unseal court-protected files, demonstrate that these payouts are not blind automated payments. Rather, senior Palestinian Authority officials as high as President Mahmoud Abbas scrutinize the details of each case, the specific carnage caused, and the personal details of each terrorist act before approving salaries and awarding honorary ranks in either the PA government or the military.

Soeren Kern: Austria Threatens to Close Saudi-Backed Interfaith Dialogue Center— The Austrian government has threatened to close a controversial Saudi-sponsored religious dialogue center because of the latter’s failure to condemn the flogging of a Saudi human rights activist and blogger. Saudi Arabia has responded to the threat by issuing a counter-threat to move the permanent headquarters of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries [OPEC] out of the Austrian capital of Vienna. The dust-up began in mid-January, when Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann expressed public outrage over the refusal of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue [KAICIID] to speak out against the flogging of Raif Badawi, a Saudi human rights activist and blogger who has been sentenced to 1,000 lashes and 10 years in prison for “insulting Islam.”

Elliott Abrams: “Calling out” Iran—The Obama administration is about to issue its formal “National Security Strategy,” but ‎recent testimony by the new Deputy Secretary of State Anthony Blinken actually gives deep ‎insight into what that strategy truly consists of.‎ Here is Blinken on how the United States deals with Iran’s aggressive misconduct, ‎including support for terrorism:‎ “Before I finish, I want to emphasize that, even as we engage Iran on the nuclear issue and ‎continue to apply pressure under the existing sanctions regime, we also continue to hold it ‎accountable for its actions on other fronts. We continue to insist that Iran release Saeed ‎Abedini, Amir Hekmati, and Jason Rezaian from detention so they can come home to their ‎families. Likewise, we continue to call on Iran to work cooperatively with us so that we can ‎find Robert Levinson and bring him home. This March will unfortunately mark eight years ‎since his disappearance on Iran’s Kish Island. Secretary [John] Kerry and Undersecretary [Wendy] ‎Sherman have spoken to Iran about our concerns for the fate of these U.S. citizens as ‎recently as last week, and will continue to do so until all of them are back home.‎

Boaz Bismuth: ‘Moderate’ ambitions – for a bomb—Credit must be given to the Iranians for their extraordinary acting skills. After managing to pull the wool over Washington’s eyes to be seen as a willing partner in the war on jihadist terror in the Middle East (the cat will guard the cream, indeed), now Iran is threatening that if, heaven forbid, the nuclear deal it wishes for fails to materialize, their “moderate and peace loving” president, Hassan Rouhani, will be politically euthanized. Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif apparently thinks we are naive, imbeciles or perhaps both. Otherwise, how would we interpret his comments whereby failed talks would play into the hands of the extremists and Revolutionary Guard? He appears to believe we are living in a world where the Green Revolution of 2009 succeeded and the ayatollahs were thrown from power. Not only did this not happen, when the West, including Washington, failed to lift a finger; Rouhani, to those with short memories, is part of the religious establishment in Iran that returned with Khomenei in 1979 from France.

Jeff Jacoby: ‘I see parchment burning, but the letters are soaring free’— Book burning is as old as books, and as current as this week’s news. The Associated Press reported on Monday that Islamic State fanatics have ravaged the Central Library of Mosul, the largest repository of learning in that ancient city. Militants smashed the library’s locks and overran its collections, removing thousands of volumes on philosophy, science, and law, along with books of poetry and children’s stories. Only Islamic texts were left behind. “These books promote infidelity and call for disobeying Allah,” one of the ISIS jihadists announced as the library’s holdings were emptied into sacks and loaded onto pickup trucks. “So they will be burned.”

Burak Bekdil: Turkey’s Bad Joke: Crocodile Tears for Victims of Holocaust— For a few moments, one could think there are two countries in the world that go by the name “Turkey.” Then reality quickly corrects the mistaken belief. “We hope that every person develops an understanding of the Holocaust, which constitutes one of the darkest moments in human history, and will consider the importance of working together so that such a tragedy, and the conditions that made this inconceivable crime possible, will never re-emerge,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a written statement on January 27. How nice and thoughtful. But there were more Turkish niceties. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu was among the participants in Poland at the ceremony marking the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp, on Holocaust Remembrance Day. And Turkey donated a modest sum of 150,000 euros this year as its contribution to the long-term preservation and restoration of the concentration camp.

Oren Dorell: 5 things about German leader’s visit to Washington—German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Washington late Sunday for meetings with President Obama that start Monday. Here’s what they will talk about: UKRAINE “One of the most pressing issues is the crisis in Ukraine,” said Peter Wittig, Germany’s ambassador to Washington. “All of us are concerned this is a spiraling military conflict. We want to explore the diplomatic options.” Merkel’s visit comes as Obama considers providing modern weapons to Ukraine, which has been losing territory in the country’s eastern regions to pro-Russian separatists armed with tanks and personnel carriers sporting Russia’s most advanced armor. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Saturday asked Western leaders at the Munich Security Conference to push for a quick cease-fire and defensive weapons capable of countering the separatists’ armored assaults.

Yaakov Lappin: Palestinian Diplomatic Warfare Escalating West Bank Tensions— As tensions in the West Bank between Israel and the Palestinians continue to grow, the West Bank is now the least stable arena in Israel’s environment, and the risk of a new, large-scale wave of violence breaking out in this area next month is rising steadily. Already, IDF personnel serving in the West Bank have noted a significant spike in violent incidents across their sector of operation. In recent days, for example, an IDF unit in the West Bank spotted two Palestinian men hurling firebombs at Israeli traffic near the city of Nablus, and opened fire, killing one of the attackers and injuring the other. Viewed on its own, the incident is a deadly, but isolated, clash that did not result in any immediate aftereffects. It is, however, exactly this type of development that, Israeli security officials believe, ends up sparking larger clashes. Several factors are colluding to make the West Bank the most likely region to flare up in 2015.

There is a dearth of Christians in the Democratic Party.  I’m becoming convinced that you can’t be a Christian and a Democrat.  I’m also becoming convinced that Jewish people in the U.S. will rue the day that they gave Democrats their unswerving support.

Joe Biden and John Kerry Are Shunning Israel’s Prime Minister — But Guess Who They Did See This Weekend

Obama Blames Fox News, MSNBC For Increasing Political Polarization

SnyderTalk Comment: Obama is to blame for the 6-year bout of polarization that we are currently living with.  It goes far beyond normal political bickering.  It’s the problem that he promised to solve and then proceeded to exacerbate.  Avoiding blame and responsibility are hallmarks of his administration.

Concerning political bickering, the chasm between the political extremes has widened over the years, and the middle is shrinking.  If we continue on this path, we may find ourselves at war with each other figuratively and possibly literally.

I find myself wondering about what the U.S. was like in the days leading up to World War II.  War does one thing that nothing else can do.  It unites ideological groups if they perceive a common enemy.  Politicians know that.  Keep it in mind.

To defeat ISIS, check Iran and Israel

SnyderTalk Comment: “The first step in destroying ISIS must be to deter Israeli settlement-building and stop Iranian expansionism. Any other option will most likely fail.”  There are many flawed assumptions in that statement that are rooted in Arab culture, but stopping Iranian expansionism is correct.  The part about Israel is absurd.

Connecting Israel with ISIS terrorist acts demonstrates the lengths to which Arabs in particular will go to equate everything wrong in their world with Israel.  It’s time to hold Arabs accountable for the problems they create, and it’s time for Arab leaders to behave like grownups.  Specifically, it’s time to fish or cut bait where ISIS is concerned.

Jordan’s King Abdullah gets it.  Egypt’s President Sisi gets it.  Most Arab leaders don’t.

See “Blaming the Jews for Fun and Profit”.  There is big money in blaming Jews and Israel, and there is no shortage of Islamist Arabs who are trying to grab a piece of the pie.

Iran Wants to Control Islam First and the World Second

#####

Lee Smith—Nuclear Dreams: Iran Now Controls Four Arab Capitals, Plus Washington, D.C.:

The point of burning alive Jordanian pilot First Lt. Muath al-Kasasbeh was to outrage onlookers, including his family—but especially the members of his large tribe, the Bararsheh, in southern Jordan. The Jordanian tribes form the core of support for the Hashemite kingdom against the Palestinian West Bankers, who may constitute the country’s majority. The East Bankers are also the bulwarks of Jordan’s internal and external security, with both the armed forces and security services made up almost exclusively of tribal members.

To be sure, Kasasbeh’s clansmen are going to be very angry with the Islamic State for killing him in such a gruesome manner. What IS seems to betting on is that Kasasbeh’s death was so gruesome, and so evocative of the hellfire that awaits false believers, that the dead pilot’s tribe, a pillar of the Hashemite monarchy, is likely going to be shocked into wondering whether King Abdullah has pulled them into the wrong war, on behalf of a frivolous and potentially treacherous ally—the United States.

Right now, the Obama Administration sees the Islamic State as a major threat to U.S. national security—and to the political fortunes of President Barack Obama and the rest of the Democratic Party. An episode like the Charlie Hebdo/Hyper Cacher attack played out on the streets of Chicago, say, or New York, would be a catastrophe for the administration, which is why it has enlisted allies like Jordan in its campaign against the deranged jihadists of the fertile crescent.

However, it’s worth understanding how the Hashemites and their loyal tribal subjects understand the new threat. From their perspective, the Islamic State is only one part of a larger regional movement, a Sunni rebellion trying to beat back the Iranian security apparatus that now represses them mercilessly throughout the Levant while controlling four historic Arab capitals—Baghdad, Damascus, Beirut, and Sana’a. The wider Sunni rebellion against Persian domination comprises not only lunatic foreign fighters (Chechens, Saudis, Swedes, etc.) but also former elements of Saddam Hussein’s regime as well as—and this is the central fact of the Sunni rebellion—Sunni Arab tribes. In other words, Jordan’s Arab tribes have been enlisted to fight Arab tribes who are fighting against Iran and its allies—who are coordinating their anti-Sunni campaign with the United States.

SnyderTalk Comment: President Obama’s analogy at the National Prayer Breakfast last week about the Crusades and the Jim Crow South were feeble attempts to excuse the inexcusable.

Islamism is a problem that world leaders have been slow to acknowledge.  Most of them still refuse to name it.  Obama is the Denier and Chief.

Iran is moving ahead aggressively to become the leader of radical Islam/Islamist terrorists—Islamism.  Right now, they are focusing on the Sunni/Shia divide, but the West is Iran’s long-term target.  Israel will be their first Western target.  Iranian leaders have made that clear.

Like it or not, we are in this war by virtue of the fact that we are not Muslims.  We have no choice.  They are coming for us.  We had better wake up to reality before it slaps us in the face or cuts off our heads.

See “Barack Obama’s Apology Tour Continues” by Moshe Phillips and Benyamin Korn and “Obama’s conciliatory approach” by Omer Dostri.

Obama and his sycophants, European nutjobs, and most Democrats are the only people who don’t seem to know or care about what’s taking place.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 48: 8-14

8 When Israel saw Joseph’s sons, he said, “Who are these?” 9 Joseph said to his father, “They are my sons, whom God has given me here.” So he said, “Bring them to me, please, that I may bless them.” 10 Now the eyes of Israel were so dim from age that he could not see. Then Joseph brought them close to him, and he kissed them and embraced them. 11 Israel said to Joseph, “I never expected to see your face, and behold, God has let me see your children as well.” 12 Then Joseph took them from his knees, and bowed with his face to the ground. 13 Joseph took them both, Ephraim with his right hand toward Israel’s left, and Manasseh with his left hand toward Israel’s right, and brought them close to him. 14 But Israel stretched out his right hand and laid it on the head of Ephraim, who was the younger, and his left hand on Manasseh’s head, crossing his hands, although Manasseh was the firstborn.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
