Jennifer Rubin—Israel will figure prominently in US politics:

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) is the latest of potential 2016 presidential candidates to visit Israel. A news release from his office says:

Governor Mike Pence began his jobs and economic development mission to Israel today by meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his office in Jerusalem. The meeting highlighted Indiana’s key innovation industries, including life sciences, technology and advanced manufacturing, focusing on enhancing Israel’s economic ties with Indiana.

“Meeting today with Prime Minister Netanyahu, we discussed ideas on fostering shared growth between Indiana and Israel through partnership and cooperation,” said Governor Pence. “Our futures can be more prosperous tomorrow by working together today. Our industries are finding their stride in the innovation sectors of life sciences, technology and advanced manufacturing, while our educational institutions share bonds in thought.”

Prior to his visit with the Prime Minister, the Governor sat down with Israeli Minister of Economy Naftali Bennett and discussed economic development opportunities for both Indiana and Israel, in particular ways in which the two can partner in the research and development sector. He also participated in a wreath-laying ceremony in the Hall of Remembrance at Yad Vashem, Israel’s official memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust. On departure from the memorial, Pence wrote in the Yad Vashem guestbook, “Nizkor lead,” meaning in Hebrew, “We shall remember forever.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Israel will figure prominently in global politics, too.  In fact, the State of Israel and the Children of Israel (all tribes including Judah) are about to assume center stage in global politics and in the spiritual realm.  Yahweh is doing wondrous things during our day, and the best is yet to come.

Stephen Brown: The European Left’s War On Christianity— It was an attack of unreasoning rage and unrelenting hatred on one of the world’s greatest symbols of love and peace, life and hope. On Christmas Day in the heart of Catholic Christianity, St. Peter’s Square in Rome, the leftist radical and militant feminist group, Femen, staged another of its outrageous “happenings” against its favourite target, the Catholic Church. On one of Christianity’s holiest days, a Femen member, Iana Aleksandrovna Azhdanova, a Ukrainian citizen, invaded the square’s famous nativity scene and seized the statuette of the Baby Jesus. The scandalous act occurred shortly after Pope Francis had given his traditional Christmas greeting to the crowd of faithful when many people were still present on the square.

Ksenia Svetlova: A year of failed hopes in the Middle East— From Damascus to Benghazi, from Qatar to Cairo, 2014 has been a year of upheavals. What will 2015 bring? No Christmas trees in Baghdad, no festive decorations in Raqqah, no electricity in Yemen, no peace in Israel and Palestine, and hardly any better in the rest of the Middle East. One of the most turbulent years in the last decade has brought with it new names – IS, and old, barbaric traditions, beheadings. Many elections were held in 2014 – in Egypt, Syria, Tunisia and Libya, but little democracy and human rights resulted. A year of war, conflicts, disagreements and failed hope is finally over, but who will clean up the mess?

Joshua Muravchik: Exploring How the World Turned Against Israel— In October 2009 a UN investigatory commission chaired by the Jewish jurist, Richard Goldstone, accused Israel of “crimes against humanity” during the war in Gaza the previous winter.  This extraordinary category of crime was invented for the Nuremberg tribunal following World War Two that had condemned the surviving leaders of the Nazi regime for systematic mass murder of Jews and others. Now, the Jews themselves stood accused. This moment underlined a dramatic change in international opinion that would have seemed unthinkable a generation earlier.  Little more than 40 years had elapsed since underdog Israel had fought a six-day war against its Arab neighbors in which the Western world had cheered for its victory.  For example, in Great Britain virtually every major newspaper editorialized in support of the Jewish state and polls showed sympathy for Israel over the Arabs by a margin more lopsided than in the US. But by 2009, this sympathy had long since disappeared in the UK and almost everywhere else. The UN Human Rights Council, which had created the Goldstone Commission, had already in the few years since it was created adopted multiple resolutions condemning Israel for one thing or another, while rarely rebuking any other government even once.  Its predecessor, the UN Commission on Human Rights, had practiced the same one-sidedness, as did the General Assembly, which lacerated Israel in countless resolutions, even going so far as to endorse terrorist attacks on Israel as legitimate “resistance.”

Brian A. Catlos: Religious nationalism finds a footing in the Middle East—One of the most tragic aspects of the present explosion of the so-called Islamic State in Syria and northern Iraq is the ethno-religious cleansing being perpetrated under this self-proclaimed Sunni “caliphate.” This echoes the recent repression of Coptic Christians in Egypt under the Muslim Brotherhood and the increasing vulnerability of Syria’s religious minorities, including Christians, Druze and the Alawite ruling elite. With many reports of this violence come adjectives such as “barbarous” and “medieval,” along with the intimation that this sort of intolerance is particularly characteristic of Islam and antithetical to the enlightened and rational secularism of the West.

Khaled Abu Toameh: What about Arab War Crimes against Palestinians?— And who ever heard of the case of Zaki al-Hobby, a 17-year old Palestinian who was shot and killed last weekend by Egyptian border guards? Had he been shot by Israeli soldiers on the other side of the border, the EU and UN would have called for an international commission of inquiry. The stories of the Palestinians tortured to death in an Arab prison have also failed to win the attention of the Western media. Nor have the EU and the UN, which called for an investigation into the death of Abu Ein — who died of a heart attack while in a confrontation with an Israeli soldier — deemed it necessary to tackle the plight of the Palestinians being killed and tortured to death in Syria and other Arab countries. As far as the Palestinian Authority is concerned — and the media, the EU, the UN and human rights groups — the only “war crimes” are being committed by Israelis, and not by Arabs who are killing, torturing and displacing tens of thousands of Palestinians. And all this is happening while the international community and media continue to display an obsession only with everything connected to Israel.

Joshua Kucera: Decoding Vladimir Putin’s Plan— As Russia’s economy crumbles, the war in Ukraine drags on and Moscow’s ties with the West get more and more confrontational, it’s worth asking: Does Vladimir Putin have a plan? To many of his detractors abroad and loyal supporters at home, the Russian president is decisively executing a strategy to strengthen Russia at the expense of the West. In 2012, when she famously accused Putin of trying to “re-Sovietize” the region around Russia, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton argued, “We know what the goal is and we are trying to figure out effective ways to slow down or prevent it.” Indeed, Putin for years has advocated for a “multipolar” world order in which the current dominance of the U.S. is replaced by a more equitable balance of power. And many of Russia’s dramatic moves over the past year – the annexation of Crimea and support for rebels in eastern Ukraine, an enthusiastic embrace of China and increasingly anti-Western rhetoric from Putin – could be interpreted as moving toward a multipolar world.

Linda Chavez: The top threat is still Iran— The agreement last week between the governments of Iraq and Iran to enter a formal relationship to fight the Islamic State group should be deeply troubling to the United States. The Islamic State, also known as ISIS, is a grave threat to the region and is responsible for the horrifying beheading of American journalists and an aid worker, as well as the brutal slaughter of countless innocent Muslims and Christians in Syria and Iraq. But as grave a threat as the Islamic State is, Iran is a much greater threat — especially if it acquires nuclear weapons.

Robert Samuelson: Reasons for economic optimism— Hello, 2015. We now are in the sixth year of economic recovery since the end of the “Great Recession” in mid-2009, says the National Bureau of Economic Research, a group of academic economists that dates business cycles. But, if upbeat economic forecasts come true, this could be the first year thatfeels like a recovery. There would be huge implications. It would soothe Americans’ bruised sense of self-worth and alter popular psychology for the 2016 elections. It has been a slog. Below, you’ll find some economic indicators comparing where we are now with the peaks of the last economic expansion, which ended in the fourth quarter of 2007. Generally, the numbers aren’t impressive. At best, they show modest gains from those previous peaks.

Irwin Stelzer: Warning: Approach 2015 With Caution— Had enough good economic news to see you through the holidays? Good. But if you plan to ask, “Please, sir, I want some more” you might be in store for your own Oliver Twist moment. Here’s why: ·     President Obama is determined to keep the ink flowing into and from his executive pen to order out costly regulations. ·     The government, unhappy with the unhappiness of voters not sufficiently credit-worthy to obtain mortgages, seems determined to repeat the history that produced the near-collapse of our financial system. Government agencies are pressuring the banks to relax credit standards so that the equity required of prospective buyers comes to only 5 percent of the purchase price. It will take only a small downward jiggle of house prices to put the proud new homeowners “under water” — with mortgage debt greater than the current values of their homes.

Daniel Greenfield: Egypt President: “Is it Possible Muslims Should Want to Kill the Rest of the World?”— Morsi specifically picked Al-Sisi because of his supposed Islamist leanings. The former general has since solidified his grip on power beating Obama and the Muslim Brotherhood. So I’m not sure what to make of this speech. Speeches in the Arab world tend to be more histrionic then we’re used to. And they also tend to mean less. But it does look like the Egyptian president is stepping into some dangerous waters. “We should closely examine the situation in which we are in. It does not make sense that the thought we sanctify pushes this entire nation to become a source of apprehension, danger, murder and destruction in the entire world,” Sisi said in a Thursday speech before Egypt’s top religious leaders on the occasion of the Birth of Prophet Mohamed.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 42: 18-25

18 Now Joseph said to them on the third day, “Do this and live, for I fear God: 19 if you are honest men, let one of your brothers be confined in your prison; but as for the rest of you, go, carry grain for the famine of your households, 20 and bring your youngest brother to me, so your words may be verified, and you will not die.” And they did so. 21 Then they said to one another, “Truly we are guilty concerning our brother, because we saw the distress of his soul when he pleaded with us, yet we would not listen; therefore this distress has come upon us.” 22 Reuben answered them, saying, “Did I not tell you, ‘Do not sin against the boy’; and you would not listen? Now comes the reckoning for his blood.” 23 They did not know, however, that Joseph understood, for there was an interpreter between them. 24 He turned away from them and wept. But when he returned to them and spoke to them, he took Simeon from them and bound him before their eyes. 25 Then Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain and to restore every man’s money in his sack, and to give them provisions for the journey. And thus it was done for them.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
