Gary Ackerman—The Middle East destroys itself:

What a mess. The world needs someone to blame. Hey, why not the Jews?

After all, it’s all Israel’s fault. Everyone else knows that all the problems in the region would be solved if only the Middle East had just one more Muslim country.

What could possibly go wrong?

A quick review. After the passing of Muhammed in 632 A.D., his adherents, having left no sons, broke into a family feud over who were the real heirs apparent, the true followers.

The ensuing Shia-vs.-Sunni split rages on today and erupts throughout much of the 1.6 billion Muslim world, with seemingly more violence every day.

The rage is about piety, purity, politics, power, personality, territory, legitimacy and, of course, religion.

Take just a partial tour of the recent region.

Saddam Hussein, with his Sunni-minority Baathist party, brutally ruled over Iraq’s majority Shia country, until we toppled him. He was replaced by Nouri al Maliki, whose Shia government (backed by Shia Iran) got even by encouraging extreme violence against the country’s Sunnis and excluding them from any meaningful role in governance or life.

SnyderTalk Comment: Every parent is familiar with these excuses: “I didn’t do it”; “it’s not my fault”; and “he did it.”

We expect those lame excuses from adolescent children while they are very young and irresponsible.  Part of our job as parents is to teach them and to show them how to accept responsibility and blame when it’s deserved.

We refer to children who don’t learn those simple lessons as immature and some of them as immature and irresponsible brats.  That’s what Palestinians are.

Palestinian leaders are pathetic.  They haven’t learned anything except dependence; they are irresponsible and corrupt; and they are felonious scoundrels.  They blame Israel and Jews for all of their self-inflicted wounds.  Making matters infinitely worse, Western nations have not held them accountable.  It’s high time that we did for their good and for ours.

The time for pacifying Palestinians by throwing money at them is over.  If they want a pacifier, they should go to their local supermarket and buy one with their own money if they have any.  It’s time for us to tell them to shut up and grow up.

The approach that we have been using doesn’t work.  Common sense tells us that.

Michael Curtis: Christians Are Disappearing in the Middle East— On August 22, 1939, Adolf Hitler, explaining his decision to invade Poland, asked, “Who after all speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?” On the centennial of the massacre of the Armenians by the Ottoman Empire, it is pertinent to ask, sixty-five years later, if the world is sufficiently aware of the persecutions of Christians, discrimination against them, the lack of respect shown for freedom of religion, and indeed the possible end of Christianity in the Arab and Muslim countries of the Middle East. Certainly the World Council of Churches, Churches for Middle Peace, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and leaders of mainstream Protestant churches, all preoccupied with alleged violations of human rights by the State of Israel, seem to be unaware of, or pay little attention to, the fate of the mosaic of Christian communities in those Arab and Muslim countries.  It is baffling that these organizations are so unconcerned with the ethnic cleansing, being carried out by Islamists, of Christians.

Hossam Ezzedine and Adel Zaanoun: Top EU diplomat calls for Jerusalem to be shared capital— Europe’s top diplomat Saturday called for a Palestinian state sharing Jerusalem as its capital with Israel, hours after the police killing of an Arab-Israeli further fanned tensions. The appeal by the European Union’s Federica Mogherini followed the dawn killing of the man by police in northern Israel, with his family saying he was killed “in cold blood” and a video showing he was shot in the back. “I think Jerusalem can be and should be the capital of two states,” the new EU foreign policy chief told reporters in the West Bank city of Ramallah. The status of Jerusalem is a sensitive issue that has blocked peace efforts for decades.

Jackson Diehl: Obama’s Bet on Iran—Since Jimmy Carter, presidents have sought to fashion an Arab coalition to contain the Islamic regime in Iran and thwart its aim to establish itself as a regional hegemon. Obama’s final push, if it works, would allow Iran to keep much of its nuclear infrastructure while ceding Tehran a role in the pacification and political reconstruction of the lands from Baghdad to Beirut. The Israeli government and most leaders of the Persian Gulf states continue to view Iran as an existential threat, best treated with crippling economic sanctions, proxy war against its allies in Syria and Lebanon and, if necessary, direct military action against its nuclear installations. A bipartisan majority of the U.S. Congress agrees with them.

Suzanne Maloney: Obama’s Latest Outreach to Iran’s Supreme Leader—President Barack Obama reportedly penned a personal appeal to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, last month. The move betrays a profound misunderstanding of the Iranian leadership, and is likely to hinder rather than help achieve a durable resolution to Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Khamenei’s mistrust and antipathy toward Washington has been a consistent feature of his public rhetoric. Anti-Americanism is Khamenei’s bedrock, engrained in his worldview, and as such it is not susceptible to blandishments – particularly not from the very object of his loathing. Obama’s appeal at this critical juncture in the nuclear diplomacy will surely be read as a supplication – and as further confirmation of American desperation and weakness in the face of Iran’s position of advantage. As he explained recently, “the reason why we are stronger is that [America] retreats step by step in all the arenas which we and the Americans have confronted each other.” There is simply no plausible scenario in which a letter from the U.S. President to Ali Khamenei generates greater Iranian flexibility on the nuclear program, which the regime has paid an exorbitant price to preserve. Just the opposite – the letter undoubtedly intensified Khamenei’s contempt for Washington and reinforced his longstanding determination to extract maximalist concessions.

Tovah Lazaroff: Netanyahu: We won’t tolerate Hamas or ISIS flags at protests in Israel—Israel won’t tolerate violent rallies within its midst in which the protesters call for the nation’s destruction, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the cabinet on Sunday. He spoke in the aftermath of Saturday’s violent riots by Israeli Arabs in the Lower Galilee near the village of Kafr Kana. “We are not prepared to tolerate more demonstrations in the heart of our cities in which Hamas or ISIS flags are waved and calls are made to redeem Palestine with blood and fire, calling in effect for the destruction of the State of Israel,” Netanyahu said. “I have instructed the interior minister to use all means, including evaluating the possibility of revoking the citizenship of those who call for the destruction of the State of Israel,” he said. “Israel is a nation of law. Whoever violates the law will be punished severely. We will not tolerate disturbances and riots. We will take determined action against those who throw stones, firebombs and fireworks, and block roads, and against demonstrations that call for our destruction,” Netanyahu said.

Janine di Giovanni: The Woman Fighting ISIS in Court— In 1995, while a law student at Israel’s Bar-Ilan University, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner and fellow law students were incensed that Muhammad Abbas, one of the Palestinians who took part in the hijacking of the cruise ship Achille Lauro in 1985, was to be allowed to return to Israel. The students decided to take their own case to the Israeli Supreme Court. Unable to afford a lawyer, the group chose Darshan-Leitner to represent them and argue their case. “The reason they chose me was simple,” she explains. “Because I am a woman. If I lost, they figured the court would be nice and I would not be slapped with court fees.” Darshan-Leitner had never argued a case before. “I was scared out of my mind,” she said. But her rhetoric was fiery, evoking the miserable plight of Leon Klinghoffer, the elderly disabled Jewish-American in a wheelchair who was shot and pushed overboard by the terrorists when their demand for the release of 50 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails was not met. “I said Klinghoffer’s voice could be heard from the bottom of the ocean,” she says. “It was very dramatic.”

Soeren Kern: Promoting “British Values” by Curbing Free Speech— The British government has unveiled a new proposal that would require Islamic extremists to have their social media posts pre-approved by the government. The plan—which is aimed at curbing the spread of jihadist propaganda in Britain—is part of a wide-ranging effort to strengthen the government’s counter-terrorism strategy ahead of general elections set for May 2015. The new policy is so broad in scope, however, and the definition of “extremist” is so all-encompassing, that the government could ultimately silence anyone whose views are deemed to be politically incorrect, according to free speech activists. The so-called Extremism Disruption Orders (EDOs) would prohibit any individual the government considers to be an “extremist” from appearing on radio and television, protesting in public or even posting messages on Facebook, Twitter or YouTube, without permission.

Elliott Abrams: Arafat – 10 years later—Yasser Arafat died 10 years ago, on November 11, 2004.‎ I am posting this “appreciation” a bit early, and anticipating an outflow of mourning and ‎praise for Arafat next week. In fact, he was a curse to Palestinians.‎ To measure the damage Arafat did as the Palestinian leader, let’s begin with a comparison. ‎Just nine days before Arafat’s death, on November 2, 2004, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan ‎died. Zayed’s death was not greeted with the global mourning, nor with the ‎ceremonies and speeches at the United Nations that Arafat got. This is grotesque, because ‎he was the father of his country, the United Arab Emirates, and a model of sober, responsible, constructive ‎leadership. Born in 1918 in one of the Trucial States, he lived as a Bedouin for all his ‎early years. Yet he was wise enough to understand the modern world that was growing up ‎around him, and to see the need for the Trucial States to federate when the British left in ‎‎1971. So he negotiated and then led the federation. The enormous success of the UAE ‎today, and its role as a key U.S. ally, owe an incalculable amount to this man.‎

Burak Bekdil: Turkey’s Rules for Safety— “And they die an equal death — the idler and the man of mighty deeds,” wrote the ancient Greek epic poet Homer in “Iliad.” Nearly three millennia later, in Turkey “they do not quite die an equal death.” After 30 coal miners died in a May 2010 accident in Karadon, northern Turkey, then Prime Minister (now president) Recep Tayyip Erdogan resorted to Islamist fatalism to wave off criticism of what was an obvious administrative negligence: “Death is in the nature of mining.” Earlier this week, the main opposition party leader, Social Democrat Kemal Kilicdaroglu asked Erdogan a legitimate question: “Why is death not in the nature of French, British and Spanish mining but only in Turkish mining?” — a question not likely to be answered by any government politician.

Oded Eran: The United States Congressional Elections: The Significance for Israel— The sweeping Republican victory in the recent Congressional elections indicates virtually nothing about the 2016 presidential elections. On November 4, 2014, US citizens cast a vote of criticism and protest against an incumbent president, and not necessarily a vote in favor of Republican ideology. At the very least, therefore, Israeli politicians should look forward to 2016, and remember that while a president in office caused his party to lose control of the Senate, a charismatic presidential candidate is likely to carry candidates from his party to victory. Moreover, the voting pattern of the American Jewish community remains solidly inclined toward the Democrats, even if the percentage of support has declined somewhat. Balance and restraint are therefore the name of the game for Israel in Washington – until January 2016, and beyond.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 37: 9-11

Now he had still another dream, and related it to his brothers, and said, “Lo, I have had still another dream; and behold, the sun and the moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” He related it to his father and to his brothers; and his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have had? Shall I and your mother and your brothers actually come to bow ourselves down before you to the ground?” His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
