Walter Pincus—Islamic State’s bloody message machine:

The Islamic State may practice medieval barbarism in Syria and Iraq, but its worldwide media operations are 21st century.

It’s active on social media, it has pamphlets, weekly illustrated magazines, billboards, T-shirts, baseball hats and even propaganda offices in Syria and Iraq. The Islamic State has expanded the message machine, too, particularly since the United States began its air attacks against the terrorist group’s forces in Iraq on Aug. 8.

Its recent output of videos has been prodigious.

The three professionally staged beheadings of two American journalists and a British aid worker shocked the world. Whatever their original purpose — seemingly to halt the U.S. bombing — they instead generated U.S. public demand for immediate action against the Islamic State and greater international support for President Obama’s decision to expand the bombing to Syria.

The newest Islamic State prisoner videos, using captured British journalist John Cantlie, take a different tack. They have him questioning the West’s military operations against Muslims.

In two six-minute videos, one released Sept. 18 and one on Sept. 23, Cantlie reads from a script in an apparently forced but calm manner.

SnyderTalk Comment: The message is crystal clear.  It hasn’t been understood yet by many, but it will be.

SnyderTalk Comment: Under Hitler, Nazis tried to conceal their dirty deeds.  Hitler went to considerable lengths to distance himself from what he was doing.  ISIS posts their atrocities on YouTube for all to see.  What does that tell us?

Kendra Mangione: Inside ISIS: Sex slaves and mass executions— Islamic State insurgents carried out mass executions, sold women into sex slavery and recruited child fighters, according to a United Nations report that paints a grim picture of the extremist group. A 40-page report published by the UN on Tuesday details human rights abuses that occurred between July 6 and Sept. 10. The report, based on 500 interviews with witnesses and surviving victims, was produced by the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq and the UN Human Rights Office. The UN said that the ongoing armed conflict in Iraq is taking a heavy toll on civilians, despite international humanitarian and human rights laws. The report catalogued a “range of gross human rights abuses, including murder, physical and sexual assault, robbery, wanton destruction of property, destruction of places of religious or cultural significance, forced conversions, denial of access to basic humanitarian services, and forced expulsion.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Ready or not, here they come.  Wake up Obama.

AWD News: ISIS to open its first consulate in Istanbul—The so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) intends to inaugurate its first diplomatic mission in Istanbul in order to provide consular services for all who wish to join the extremist group in Iraq, reported Turkish dailyAydinlik as saying. Abu-Omar Al-Tunisi, the ISIS de facto head of foreign relations issued a statement, saying that the Islamic Caliphate is determined to launch its first diplomatic mission in a friendly and Muslim country. He further noted that the ISIS hopes that the bilateral relations with Ankara will witness more developments under the aegis of newly-elected president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. ISIS also claims that its consulate in Istanbul will pay the hospital bills of all wounded Islamist militants who traveled to turkey to receive medical treatment.

SnyderTalk Comment: The Turkish people are about to suffer mightily for their support of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

HonestReporting: How to Create a “Settlement Crisis”— It’s like Groundhog Day all over again. Israeli PM Netanyahu meets with U.S. President Obama and the media is full of stories of Israeli settlement construction and condemnations from both the White House and U.S. State Department. So how did we get to this “perfect storm?” Firstly, of course, none of this would be possible without a media obsessed with the issue of settlements above all else. Despite everything going on in the region, too many still buy into the narrative that claims that building Jewish homes, in this case, within a Jerusalem neighborhood, represents the biggest obstacle to peace in the Middle East. Secondly, factor in the symbiotic relationship between the media and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), in particular those that are critical of Israeli policies. The Washington Post gets it right when it talks about building plans for Givat Hamatos in Jerusalem.

Raphael Ahren: Netanyahu seeks new paths to a Palestinian state he’s not sure he wants—Does he or does he not believe in the two-state solution? Due to the conspicuous absence of the phrase in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the United Nations on Monday, pundits were this week wondering once again whether he really means it when he says that, in principle, he is in favor of the establishment of a Palestinian state. During his comprehensive address to the UN General Assembly, Netanyahu had said that any peace agreement “will obviously necessitate a territorial compromise.” In almost the same breath, however, he repeated a phrase settler leader and Economy Minister Naftali Bennett has popularized in recent months: “The people of Israel are not occupiers in the Land of Israel.” In his 35-minute New York speech, he chose not to utter the words “Palestinian state” or in any other way explicitly endorse the two-state solution. Some observers saw the omission as a signal that the prime minister had abandoned the idea.

Abigail R. Esman: Hidden Terror in Europe— Europe is in trouble. Even as America and its European allies begin their war campaign against ISIS and its self-proclaimed Islamic State in Syria and Iraq, European Muslims are increasingly showing their support for Islamic terror groups and their jihad. With the number of Muslims heading to Syria to join ISIS and Al Nusra (the Syrian branch of Al Qaida) on the rise, those who remain behind in countries like Belgium and the Netherlands are now working to raise funds to support their families, and to defend other European Muslims accused of plotting terrorist attacks at home. In fact, according to the Wall Street Journal, “Europe is increasingly becoming a recruiting ground for jihadists heading [to Syria and Iraq] to join terrorist groups like Islamic State.” So far, the number of Europeans who have already joined the jihad in Syria is estimated to be between 2,500-3,000, with the largest number per capita coming from Belgium and from France.

Mendy Boteach: NYUseless— If you’d been driving down Bowery Avenue in New York City last week on Monday night, you might have noticed about twenty young Jewish students standing on the side of the road screaming “Shame on Cooper!” That night, Mahmoud Abbas had arrived to give a speech at the Great Hall of Cooper Union, which stands nestled within the campus of NYU. What you might not have noticed is that the entire group was under the age of eighteen, and had come from the local Rambam High School. There are more than fifty-thousand students at NYU, and almost a third of them are Jewish. Yet, aside from me and these High School students, not one had shown up to protest the honorable platform that had been provided to the blood-soaked despot that is Mahmoud Abbas. In the arena of pro-Israel activism, a small private high-school had outshone more than ten-thousand Jewish students at NYU. Even worse, they’d done so at what we might call an NYU home-game. In case you feel that Abbas is a partner in peace or a moderate, I’ll digress to prove that he’s not. Abbas began his career as one of the first members of Fatah, a notable terrorist group. Sure enough, the very mastermind of the Munich Olympics Massacre admitted that Abbas raised the funds for the operation. Since then, Fatah has only continued to drench its hands in Jewish blood. During the Second Intifada, Fatah terrorists plagued the Israeli civilian population with a seemingly endless string of suicide bombings —  all while Abbas sat at the top of the Fatah food-chain as their Prime Minister, a position he held until 2003. When the Intifada came to an end in 2005, Abbas finally did condemn the violence — only five years and one-thousand innocent Israeli lives too late.

Adam Taylor: 9 attempts to explain the crazy complexity of the Middle East—The Middle East is complicated. The religious, social and political cleavages of the region are myriad and hard to succinctly sum up. How do you untangle the Israeli-Palestinian situation, or explain the divide between Sunni Islam and Shia Islam, or square those who favor political Islam with those who favor secular government? Where do other religious and political minorities fit in? And where do big powers outside the region, most obviously the United States, exert influence? Over the past year, as Syria’s civil war dragged on and the Islamic State extremist group became everyone’s worst nightmare, the desire to try to explain the Middle East – in a bid to help solve its daunting problems – has grown.

JTA: White House official: Nuclear deal could portend Iran ties—A top Obama administration official said that a nuclear deal with Iran could start the way toward a possible resumption of ties. “A nuclear agreement could begin a multi-generational process that could lead to a new relationship between our countries,” Philip Gordon, the White House coordinator for the Middle East, said in a speech Saturday to the National Iranian American Council. “Iran could begin to reduce tensions with its neighbors and return to its rightful place in the community of nations.” Gordon made clear that Iran had much to do beyond reach a nuclear deal in order to remove its pariah status, but his casting a nuclear deal as part of a normalization process and not an end in itself represented a shift. At the outset of nuclear talks between the major powers and Iran in January, U.S. officials were adamant, including in conversations with Jewish leaders, that the only relief Iran should expect from such a deal was the removal of sanctions.

Dr. Ronen Yitzhak: Turkey’s Islamic State conundrum— “Ankara will provide the needed support for airstrikes, whether militarily or logistically,” said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to New York for the 69th gathering of the U.N. General Assembly. It was his attempt at deflecting pressure from the U.S. — which has expressed wonderment over Turkey’s refusal to join the coalition against the Islamic State group — by hinting to the possibility that his country will eventually lend some sort of helping hand to the coalition after the Turkish parliament, scheduled to reconvene in early October, grants its approval. Indeed, from the moment U.S. President Barack Obama declared the establishment of an international coalition against ISIS, Turkey has refused to assume an active role. Turkish government officials have explained that the main reason for this was Turkey’s concern over the fates of 49 Turkish consulate employees captured by ISIS in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul last June. However, even after their release was secured on September 20, Turkey did not rush to declare its participation in the coalition.

Eli Wishnivetski: Fascist Party Wins in Swedish Election Likely to Increase Religious Freedom Constraints— After eight years of center-right rule that championed the free-market approach – and which saw Sweden’s economy recover faster than any other in Europe – the Swedish voters recently turned their backs on the governing coalition in favor of left-leaning parties. The darling of the September 14 elections, however, turned out to be the Sweden Democrats who captured 13% of the vote – good for third place – doubling their seats in the Parliament. More importantly, the Sweden Democrats are now in a position of power as both the center-left (43.7%) and center-right (39.3%) blocs lack a clear majority. The Sweden Democrat party has a far-right nationalist platform that has its roots in a white supremacist organization (‘Keep Sweden Swedish’) and a xenophobic populist movement. In 1988, when the party was founded, its members wore Nazi uniforms to meetings. In a quest for mainstream recognition, the party toned down its radical elements – purportedly rejecting Nazism outright in the late 1990s. It has since aligned its interests with nationalist parties of Europe considered more moderate, such as the National Front party, which currently stands at the precipice of power in France.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 31: 50-55

50 “If you mistreat my daughters, or if you take wives besides my daughters, although no man is with us, see, God is witness between you and me.” 51 Laban said to Jacob, “Behold this heap and behold the pillar which I have set between you and me. 52 This heap is a witness, and the pillar is a witness, that I will not pass by this heap to you for harm, and you will not pass by this heap and this pillar to me, for harm. 53 The God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their father, judge between us.” So Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac. 54 Then Jacob offered a sacrifice on the mountain, and called his kinsmen to the meal; and they ate the meal and spent the night on the mountain. 55 Early in the morning Laban arose, and kissed his sons and his daughters and blessed them. Then Laban departed and returned to his place.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
