Steve Apfel—The cost of being too clever:

“Be not over righteous, nor too clever,” Solomon, a profoundly righteous and clever king, warns Israel for all time. His words speak cogently to a sovereign Israel, at liberty after two millennia to act for the good of its people, not least in the matter of territory. If only Israel took the king’s early warning to heart. Instead, echelons of leaders and society chose to be exactly what Solomon warned them not to be: over-righteous and too clever.

Can anyone dispute that more ingenuity has gone into schemes to give away territory that Israel won against all odds than into schemes to hold onto territory for the benefit of Israel’s own people. Magnanimous is hardly the word. Foolhardy might be. I’m sure one could turn up some example, but you’d have to dig pretty deep to come up with another nation that gave away parts of an already small country to a well-disposed neighbour. To come up with another nation that handed territory on a platter to implacable foes you’d have far deeper to dig. Foolhardy is hardly the word. Nihilistic might be.

Like a child craving attention, Israel looked about for compliments only to have to ward off cudgels. “Barbaric barbarians” a celebrity just the other day called Israel for the way it conducted the latest of three mini wars in Gaza, the strip it had made a gift of to a rocket-firing, tunneling enemy. “Systematic murderers” a documentary maker called Israel for the way it stemmed waves of suicide attacks rolling in from the ‘West Bank’, Israel’s gift of real estate to bombers in human disguise.

SnyderTalk Comment: Horrific waves of anti-Semitism are crashing ashore across the world.  It can appear in many forms, but hatred for Israel and Jewish people is always the common denominator.  Don’t tolerate it.  Speak out against it.  Challenge those who promote it.  Don’t let it pass.  The consequence for remaining silent during times like these is too grave to imagine.

David Horovitz: When the history of this war is written—When the history of this war is written, it will be recalled that: Britain abandoned Israel. The principled initial position of Prime Minister David Cameron in support of Israel was gradually eroded to the point where, on August 12, the British ministry of trade announced that if Hamas attacked Israel again, it would halt some of its arms sales to Israel. No, you did not misread that. If the terrorist government of Gaza, sworn to destroy Israel, initiated new violence against Israel, Britain will stop selling Israel some of the arms it needs to keep its people safe.

Vox: How America lost the Middle East—Every Friday, the people of Kafranbel, Syria, send a message to the world. The notes and artwork are hand-drawn onto posters, but savvy Kafranbel residents have, through media outreach and social media, made the signs famous around the globe. The messages have inspired long pieces in the New York Times and Foreign Policy. Today, the Kafranbel signs are some of the most recognizably human symbols of Syria’s brutal, inhumane civil war. The messages demand the world do something about the war. And because he won’t listen to them, Kafranbel’s protestors deeply, truly despise President Barack Obama. “Happy July 4, America!,” one sign reads. “Who wants to protect the war criminal Assad and ignore his crimes against humanity? Do you, President Obama?” Another sign compares him unfavorably to Bush: “Obama’s procrastination kills us: we miss Bush’s audacity,” it reads. “The world is better with America’s Republicans.” A third is simply a drawing of the White House covered in Syrian blood. The theme, in case it isn’t obvious, is that America could end the bloodshed in Syria. But, whether out of cowardice or indifference, it chooses to let Syrians die.

Hamza Hendawi: Israel Targeted Gaza Mosques Used for Terror—Gaza’s Al-Qassam Mosque in Nuseirat was one of 63 that Israel destroyed in its war with Hamas, according to Palestinian officials. Israel says Hamas used mosques to stockpile weapons and rocket launchers, to hide tunnel access shafts and lookout posts, and to hold military strategy sessions. It says that Hamas fired 160 rockets at Israel from mosques, and posted video clips showing Israeli troops uncovering weapons caches inside mosques. “It was Hamas that intentionally chose to establish its offensive capabilities within these premises, rendering them a legitimate target,” the IDF said. Israeli counterterrorism expert Jonathan Fighel of the International Policy Institute for Counter-Terrorism explained: “Cynically, they are using those places in order, first of all, to feel immune that they will not be targeted. And then if the place is targeted, they can scream and shout and say that the attacking side was violating the sanctity of worship.”

Hilik Bar: Condemnation of Israel Prevents Peace—The international response to Israel’s defensive actions against terrorism is disturbingly familiar, and it is galvanizing the Israeli public against making further compromises to their security for the sake of peace. This experience is driving yet another nail into the coffin of Israeli-Palestinian peace, as global condemnation of Israel becomes increasingly disconnected from realistic expectations of how a sovereign nation should handle terrorist rockets raining down on its cities. With no better solution to offer Israel for the protection of its population, international opinion becomes increasingly irrelevant to Israel’s government and alienates moderate Israelis who would support political and territorial concessions to the Palestinians – but not at the cost of their personal safety. That the Gaza war, one of many raging in the world today, has yielded one of the lowest rates of civilian casualties, and showcased some of the most valiant efforts in the history of modern warfare to protect the other side’s innocents, seems to matter not one whit to Israel’s critics. Israel scrupulously abides by the laws of war. Israelis have watched the hypocritical international reaction and have concluded that Israel’s very real security concerns are not taken seriously. Israel has a right to defend itself, we are told, but apparently this is a right that exists only in theory, not in practice.

Daphne Richemond-Barak: Tunnels as War Crime—The tunnels built by Hamas in Gaza present novel issues for international law. Gaza’s tunnels burrow under an internationally recognized border, they traverse civilian areas, and their primary objective and effect – contrary to international law – is to harm and endanger civilians, both Israeli and Palestinian. Most tunnel digging begins within homes, hospitals, mosques and other “protected objects.” Filled with explosives and weapons, tunnels can detonate at any time, risking the lives of the civilians living above them. For these reasons, the construction of combat tunnels under civilian populated areas and protected sites like hospitals, across borders, and/or with the intention of maiming civilians must be regarded as a violation of international law.

Oren Kessler: Hamas Lies— It’s the Mideast equivalent of “Dog bites man,” but it took the media nearly a month to recognize its sheer obviousness: Hamas lies. Hamas lies systematically, instructing civilians to misinform the foreign press. It lies habitually, with a formidable record of mendacity from previous conflicts. And it lies guiltlessly, convinced that the objectives of ‘resistance’ supersede quaint notions of truth-telling. Nonetheless, since Israel launched Operation Protective Edge over a month ago, Western media have relied on Gaza’s Hamas-run Health Ministry – as herehere and here – for casualty tallies. As one reporter told the Washington Post, when it comes to body counts, the Hamas Health Minister Ashraf Al-Qidra is “the only game in town.”

Adania Shibli: Palestinians Question Fighting for the Cause—Adania Shibli, a visiting professor at Birzeit University’s Institute of Women’s Studies and Cultural Studies, describes the mood of her Palestinian students in the West Bank: “My students want to finish their studies, find jobs, get married, [and] buy cars and flats, now that mortgages have been introduced by Palestinian banks. They’d rather not waste their futures fighting for a cause that is proving to be a lost one.” “‘What had we gained from all our repeated intifadas?’ some ask. The quest for national liberation, which many have lost hope in, is now eclipsed by the quest for personal, mostly economic, gains.”

Sudarsan Raghavan: After War with Israel, More Gazans Question Hamas Decisions—Ziad Abu Halool of Beit Lahiya in Gaza says he is tired of seeing his neighborhood destroyed after watching Hamas and other Palestinian militants fire rockets into Israel. He says that although he despises Israel, he also blames Hamas and other Palestinian armed groups for his woes. More and more Gazans are questioning the decisions and strategies of Hamas. Most of the disapproval is still beneath the surface, but discontent is bubbling up openly. “All the people are whispering, ‘Why didn’t Hamas accept the Egyptian initiative in the beginning of the war when the casualties were still low?'” said Hani Habib, a Palestinian journalist and political analyst.

Douglas Murray: Are “Integrated Muslims” Integrated?— The Gaza War has had disturbing fallout in Europe. The Gaza War has produced flagrantly anti-Semitic protests, attacks on Jews and the burning down of Jewish buildings. Those protests have come as a surprise to parts of the European public – nowhere more so than in Germany, where a hatred thought to have been disgraced for all time has found its way back onto European streets under a new guise. As well as being a time for outrage, this also ought to be a time for re-thinking. And some of that rethinking will have to be done by those who assumed they best understood these outbursts. Certainly calls to “kill the Jews” in France, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy are a part of the problem, but these, as well as the outbreaks of violence against Jews across Europe, are condemned by politicians and journalists alike. To some extent it is too easy for them to do so. There is not yet any real political or other price to pay for saying that you think people should beat up rabbis in the street, send “Jews to the gas” or call openly for genocide. What is harder for people to do is address the lies that feed this violence, and the underlying hatred that the Gaza War revealed. These need attention.

Alicia Colon: Jewish self-loathing—I recently watched the new program “Manhattan” which is about the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos, New Mexico that gave us the atom bomb. A young physicist arriving at the site is introduced to the project as being ‘Shangri-La’ and having the ‘highest combined IQ than any town in the country, and more Jews in Babylon.” When it comes to science, it is no secret that most believe that Jews are overwhelmingly intelligent. But when it comes to politics, that percentage dwindles considerably for so many still vote for Democrats who are not friends of Israel. As a Roman Catholic, I find their lack of support for this tiny democrat country surrounded by enemies to be inexplicable. It’s as if these self-loathing Jews want no connection to Israel; that it has no right to defend itself against genocide. They think orthodox and observant Jews should get over the holocaust because it could never happen again especially in America. I hope that the blatant anti-Semitism that has erupted since the Gaza war has opened their peanut brains because they are so wrong about it never happening again.

SnyderTalk Comment: Since the kidnapping and murder of three Jewish teenagers by Hamas operatives a few weeks ago, there has been a tidal shift in Israeli politics.  Even left-wing Israelis have started to realize that they have no choice but to defend themselves aggressively.

From his vacation retreat on Martha’s Vineyard, Barack Obama can’t see that political developments in Israel have already spiraled out of his control.  When his lapdog, Israel’s left-wing Minister of Justice Tzipi Livni, turned away from him, he should have guessed it, but he didn’t.  He still thinks that he can call the shots.

A new day is dawning in Israel, and our president is asleep at the switch as usual.  It’s par for the political course.  Maybe, he’s performing better on the Vineyard Golf Club course, but I doubt it.  Anyone who has gone to the lengths that he has to hide is performance records must really have something to hide.  I suspect that he wins on the golf course only if his playing partners let him win.  In the world of global politics, the key players aren’t that magnanimous or that stupid.

White House Halts Transfer of Weapons to Israel

SnyderTalk Comment: Israel needs to be independent to be effective.  Her leaders need to learn to lean on Yahweh, not on Barack Hussein Obama and his henchmen.  Concerning White House bigwigs, the blood of innocent Israeli victims, if there are any, will be on their hands.

The duplicity of our political leaders is breathtaking.  One day, outgoing chief of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency, Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, told the world that radical Islam is metastasizing, spreading across the globe, and posing a growing threat to civilized people everywhere.  The next day, the White House announced that the U.S. is halting weapons transfers to Israel because our president and his secretary of state don’t like the way Israel is defending itself from increasingly violent attacks by radical Islamists in Gaza.  The White House decision was made even though leaders of many Arab nations who know the players well are hoping that Israel will totally eliminate the Hamas threat to Middle East stability and security.

As one Israeli journalist said last week, Obama sees the world as “la la land”.  I’ll go one step further: he sees the world as la la land where he alone is king of the mountain.  That’s laughable, as Russian President Vladimir Putin, Syrian President Bashar al Assad, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, the ayatollahs in Iran, and other world leaders know.  But in Obama’s White House, he’s still the knight in shining armor.

Obama’s acolytes can’t see that their emperor has no clothes.  People with better vision see Obama as a butt naked child who is playing an adult game that he doesn’t understand. Israel is the front line against radical Islam, and our president can’t get over the fact that Israel is better able to deal with the threat that they face than people who are cloistered safely in the White House.  Will they ever learn?  I doubt it.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 25: 1-6

1 Now Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah. 2 She bore to him Zimran and Jokshan and Medan and Midian and Ishbak and Shuah. 3 Jokshan became the father of Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim and Letushim and Leummim. 4 The sons of Midian were Ephah and Epher and Hanoch and Abida and Eldaah. All these were the sons of Keturah. 5 Now Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac; 6 but to the sons of his concubines, Abraham gave gifts while he was still living, and sent them away from his son Isaac eastward, to the land of the east.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
