Mathias Mossberg—The Gaza War Marked the End of the Two-State Solution: Here’s What’s Next:

The conflict between Palestinians and Israelis has now raged for the better part of a century. Israel was established as a state in 1948, but the origins of the conflict go back much further, at least to the first days of the Zionist movement. Some say the conflict was born more than 3,000 years ago, when Moses espied the green strip of Jericho from Mount Nebo, on the other side of the Jordan River; or earlier still, when Abraham first passed through the land of Canaan and rested in Shechem, close to today’s Nablus.

From the biblical period through the present day the land between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River has been the site of innumerable conflicts over territory and the identities that have taken shape within it. As we go to press, prospects for peace between Israelis and Palestinians remain bleak, primarily because a territorial division acceptable to both sides is not in sight. Israel continues to strengthen its presence across the West Bank while remaining in control over many aspects of life in Gaza. Among increasing numbers of both Palestinians and Israelis the view is gaining ground that time has run out for a traditional two-state solution—that is, a division of historic Palestine/Eretz Yisrael into two territorially distinct states.

If a two-state solution seems increasingly remote, a one-state solution remains unacceptable to the vast majority of Israelis for political and cultural as well as demographic reasons. A significant percentage of Palestinians is similarly not ready to give up the long-sought-after dream of a sovereign Palestinian state. Facts on the ground have led to loss of hope, and the belief is widespread that the two-state solution is dead.

SnyderTalk Comment: I hope the two-state solution is dead, but I have my doubts.  Even more, no one knows for sure what comes next, but this much is certain: there will be more tries at “peace”.  Too much is at stake for those who think that they can capture a Nobel Prize, or justify the one he already has, by doing the impossible.  That’s why I think that eventually there will be a peace treaty, but it won’t last long.  Yahweh won’t permit it to last.  That’s all I’ll say for now.

JTA: Netanyahu: Gaza op continues, won’t negotiate under fire— Israel’s operation in Gaza is continuing, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. “The operation will continue until its goal is met – the restoration of a quiet for a long period. I said at the outset of, and throughout, the operation that it would take time and patience,” Netanyahu said Sunday at the beginning of the regular weekly Cabinet meeting. The remarks come as rockets from Gaza continue to be launched at Israel, since the end of a 72-hour cease-fire on Friday morning. Israel has responded with targeted aerial and naval attacks, but as of Sunday afternoon had not sent ground troops back in to Gaza. “Israel will not negotiate under fire and Israel will continue to take all action in order to change the current reality and bring quiet to all of its citizens. We will stand together, united and determined, until we complete the work,” Netanyahu said.

Khaled Abu Toameh: Hamas Executes One of Its Leaders – Then Blames Israel— Militiamen on Thursday dumped the bullet-riddled body of Ayman Taha, a former prominent Hamas figure, outside Gaza City’s Shifa Hospital. The body remained on the ground for nearly an hour before other militiamen came back and took it to an unknown destination. Palestinians who were at the hospital were too afraid to remove the body. A few hours later, Taha’s body was handed over to Shifa Hospital by a number of Hamas militiamen. Palestinian journalists said that Taha had been executed for spying on behalf of an Arab intelligence service and involvement in financial corruption.

Daniel Pipes: Lessons of the War in Gaza— As Israeli operations against Hamas wind down, here are seven insights into the month-long conflict: Missile shield: The superb performance of Iron Dome, the protective system that shot down nearly every Hamas rocket threatening life or property, has major military implications for Israel and the world. Its success signals that “Star Wars” (as opponents maliciously dubbed it upon introduction in 1983) can indeed provide protection from short-range and also presumably from long-range rockets and missiles, potentially changing the future of warfare.

Greenslade Blog: The Times refuses to carry ad accusing Hamas of ‘child sacrifice’The Times is under attack for refusing to run an advert about the conflict in Gaza. The paper is accused of being part of a British media “infamously skewed against Israel.” The ad is a statement, written jointly by Elie Wiesel, the Nobel prize-winning author, and Shmuley Boteach, an outspoken American-born Orthodox rabbi. It calls on President Obama and other political leaders across the world “to condemn Hamas’s use of children as human shields”, which amounts to “child sacrifice”.

Thomas A. Schwartz: Obama’s moment— President Obama’s decision to authorize airstrikes against ISIS, the radical Islamist group attempting to re-establish a caliphate across Syria and Iraq, is being seen by many as a short-term, reactive military action brought about by the recent strategic successes scored by the militants. Understandably. The President went out of his way in his defensive statement Friday to emphasize that “he will not allow the United States to be dragged into fighting another war in Iraq.” Even the justifications for the airstrikes – defending American personnel in Erbil and possibly preventing genocide of the Yezidi minority group, trapped on a mountain without water or food – spoke to the limited nature of Obama’s commitment.

Soeren Kern: Holy War Arrives in Germany— Supporters of the jihadist group “Islamic State” [IS] have clashed with Kurdish Yazidis in North Rhine-Westphalia, the state with the largest Muslim population in Germany. The violence—which comes amid threats by a German jihadist to blow up an American nuclear weapons storage facility in Germany—has counter-terrorism officials concerned that radical Muslims are deliberately exploiting the ethnic and religious tensions in the Middle East to stir up trouble on the streets of Europe. Police say the Muslim-Yazidi clash was triggered after six Islamists stormed a restaurant in the eastern Westphalian town of Herford at around 4 pm on August 7. The Muslims were attempting forcibly to remove a poster inviting people to join a demonstration in support of the Yazidis in Iraq.

Denis MacEoin: The United Nations “Human Rights” Council— The United Nations Human Rights Council [UNHRC] convened an emergency session on July 23, 2014, to consider the plight of Palestinians in Gaza during the war between Israel and the terrorist organization, Hamas. The session was held at the request of the coordinators of the Group of Arab States, the Group of African States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Movement of Non-Aligned Countries and the “state of Palestine,” in a letter, dated July 18, to the UNHRC President. At that session, 29 out of 47 member states voted (1 against — USA — and 17 abstentions) to dispatch urgently “an independent, international commission of inquiry” to investigate “all violations of international human rights laws and international humanitarian law in the occupied Palestinian territory [sic], including East Jerusalem, particularly in the Gaza Strip.”

Patrick Cockburn: Crisis in the Middle East: the end of a country, and the start of a new dark age— Iraq has disintegrated. Little is exchanged between its three great communities – Shia, Sunni and Kurd – except gunfire. The outside world hopes that a more inclusive government will change this but it is probably too late. The main victor in the new war in Iraq is the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isis) which wants to kill Shia rather than negotiate with them. Iraq is facing a civil war that could be as bloody as anything that we have seen in Syria and could go on for years.

Bill Powell: With the World Focused on Middle East, Will Putin Invade Ukraine?— The Russia-backed separatists in Ukraine are on the defensive, fighting to hold on to strongholds like the cities of Donetsk and Luhansk. Meanwhile some 20,000 regular Russian troops have, along with artillery and  heavy armor, massed at the border, seemingly awaiting a signal to go in. In Washington, the Obama administration’s bandwidth now seems occupied by dueling crises in the Middle East—the unfolding debacle in Iraq, and the war between Israel and Hamas, now back on as the latest ceasefire, like those before it, dissolved.

Ozan Serdaroglu: The politicisation of Turkey’s presidency— Since 2007, with 68% of the Turkish electorate voting in favour of the constitutional reform package, stipulating the election of the president of republic by popular vote, the transformation of the parliamentarian regime towards presidential regime has been a dominant debate in Turkish politics. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has always expressed his keenness for the change, while the opposition parties have been more reticent as they were concerned with losing the more constricted political leverage that they essentially exert through legislative processes. This divergence was, in fact, pointing to a shared perception by all political groups that the direct popular vote could be a first step towards ending the “supra-politics” position of the office of presidency towards its active political involvement, by hinging the sources of its legitimacy upon the voters’ approval.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 24: 45-49

45 “Before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her jar on her shoulder, and went down to the spring and drew, and I said to her, ‘Please let me drink.’ 46 She quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder, and said, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels also’; so I drank, and she watered the camels also. 47 Then I asked her, and said, ‘Whose daughter are you?’ And she said, ‘The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bore to him’; and I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her wrists. 48 And I bowed low and worshiped Yahweh, and blessed Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, who had guided me in the right way to take the daughter of my master’s kinsman for his son. 49 So now if you are going to deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me; and if not, let me know, that I may turn to the right hand or the left.”

SnyderTalk Comment: Read His Name is Yahweh.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)

  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
