Ruthie Blum—The Nazi parallel [or Why the 1967 Borders Won’t Work]:

In November 1969, Israeli Foreign Minister Abba Eban gave an interview to the German magazine Der Spiegel, and there made a statement that has gone down in history. Reduced to a sexy sound bite, however, his actual words have long been forgotten.

According to friend and foe alike, Eban ostensibly referred to the 1967 borders (from which Israel was forced to fight for its survival in the Six-Day War) as the “Auschwitz borders.”

The Right regularly refers to this phrase to illustrate that even someone as dovish as Eban understood the importance of maintaining control over the territory acquired by Israel in its victory in the war to annihilate the Jewish state.

The Left accuses the Right of enlisting Eban for a cynical purpose: to bolster its political opposition to territorial withdrawals. And the Arabs claim that the intention of Israelis who invoke Eban is to call the Palestinians Nazis.

Shlomo Cesana—A brief history of failed peace talks [or The “Peace Talks” are an Exercise in Futility]—The nine months allotted for peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians are ending, and while these negotiations were supposed to bring a permanent agreement, all the facts suggest that the gaps are too wide and that the negotiations have failed, or more accurately, failed once again. Barring a dramatic turn of events, we will not reach a peace agreement in the foreseeable future. Whether or not the efforts of Israeli negotiator Tzipi Livni, Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat and mediator Martin Indyk bear fruit, this is a good time to summarize and explain: What have they been talking about for nine months? And why has nothing come out of these talks?

Hen Mazzig: An IDF Soldier Faces Anti-Israel Hatred in the U.S.—When I served as a soldier in the West Bank, I got used to having ugly things said to me, but nothing prepared me for the misinformation, demonization of Israel, and the gut-wrenching, anti-Israel, anti-Semitic hostility expressed by many students, professors, church members, and even high school students in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S. At a BDS event in Portland, a professor from a Seattle university told the crowd that the Jews of Israel have no national rights and should be forced out of the country. When I asked, “Where do you want them to go?” she calmly answered, “I don’t care. I don’t care if they don’t have any place else to go. They should not be there.” I responded that she was calling for ethnic cleansing. My experiences in America have changed me.

Dan Margalit: Abbas is responsible for the failed talks— Israeli politics and the peace process have been experiencing major turbulence as of late. This was clearly evident on Thursday, when Justice Minister Tzipi Livni sat for an interview with Channel 2. News anchor Yonit Levi was unrelenting, and rightly so. She confronted Livni with an inherent contradiction: Now that the cabinet has suspended the talks with the Palestinians, how is it that she is still in the government? Hasn’t she pledged not to take part in a coalition that does not hold talks with the Palestinians? When does she plan on bolting?

Dr. Ronen Yitzhak: The Arab world and the Holocaust— “Despite the end of the Nazi regime in Germany, the phenomenon of anti-Semitism has yet to bow out from the global stage. Even today, we have seen attacks against Jews throughout Europe. And so we must struggle against it, and every other form of extremist and racist ideology that exists, for they truly only ever result in massacre.” Using these words, Jordanian online news outlet Mamleka News suggested why the Arabs must learn the Holocaust and recognize that what happened was an “abominable crime, the threat to human history.”

Ilan Berman: Why Iran’s Missiles Matter—In the current debate over the Iranian bomb, the White House is staying quiet about its concerns over the regime’s progress on missile development. To curb the threat posed by Tehran’s atomic ambitions, any diplomatic deal will need not only to limit Iran’s capability to make nuclear weapons, but also its ability to deliver them. However, on April 16, Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan publicly declared, “Iran’s missiles are not up for discussion under any circumstances.” According to U.S. intelligence assessments, Iran is already the most formidable missile power in the Middle East. The mainstay of Iran’s arsenal is the Shahab-3, a medium-range missile unveiled publicly more than a decade ago. Today, the Shahab is estimated to be nuclear-capable and have a range of between 900 and 1,200 miles – putting all of Israel within striking distance. In addition, in 2005, Iran became the first space-faring nation in the Muslim world when it successfully launched a surveillance satellite into orbit from a missile base in Russia.

Amos Yadlin: World Powers Must Reject Iranian Offer— Those of us who only read the headlines on news websites this week might have received the impression that Iran is prepared to make significant concessions in regards to its nuclear plan, and that the Iranian military nuclear program crisis may already be behind us. One headline announced that “Iran has neutralized half of its stockpile of higher-enriched uranium.” Another headline reported that the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Ali Salehi, declared that Iran and the world powers had reached an agreement on the technical changes which would reduce the production of the heavy water reactor in Arak – a reactor which would not be able to produce plutonium for a nuclear weapon after being completed.

Jacques Neriah: Egypt and Saudi Arabia Battle the Jihadist Current—Following the lead of Egypt, Saudi Arabia has decided to join the battle against jihadists in the Middle East, where movements led by al-Qaeda and Iran strive to topple the ruling Arab regimes. The leading regimes realize that these movements have a common goal: to destroy the prevailing political order and replace it with either a Sunni caliphate based on the strictest interpretation of Islamic law or a state modeled after the Shiite Islamic Republic of Iran. Saudi Arabia has started to take action against the global jihad’s funding sources, primarily wealthy citizens in the kingdom itself, and has further increased intelligence cooperation with the United States.

Brad Knickerbocker: New sanctions coming on Ukraine. Could Vladimir Putin himself be targeted?— As tensions rise in Ukraine, a senior White House official Sunday said the US will increase sanctions on Russia this week, including measures meant to punish President Vladimir Putin’s wealthy inner circle. Meanwhile, the New York Times reports, the US is investigating what is believed to be Mr. Putin’s substantial personal wealth. Making the rounds of Sunday TV news show, deputy national security adviser Tony Blinken detailed the effects that he said current sanctions have had on Russia: financial markets down 22 percent since the beginning of the year, the ruble at an all-time low, $70 billion in capital moved out of the country.

Zalman Shoval: Israel Does Not Place Its Relations with the U.S. and Russia on the Same Plane—Reports surfaced that officials in Washington are angry with Israel for its “display of neutrality” with regards to the Russian “invasion” of the Crimea. Israel is not “neutral” and does not place its relations with the U.S. and Russia on the same plane: The U.S. is a friend and ally and its democratic values are ones that most Israelis espouse. However, Vladimir Putin’s Russia is not the communist Soviet Union and its relations with Israel are completely different, for the better. Israel also holds a sense of responsibility for the Jews in Russia and in Ukraine. Some 200,000 Jews live in Ukraine today, even more in Russia. Any unequivocal stance taken by Israel in support of one side or another in the conflict would be to the detriment of both Israel and our fellow Jews in those nations.

Smadar Perry: The Troubling Reality of Gaza’s Terror Tunnels—Scores of Hamas terrorists emerging from a tunnel from Gaza discovered last month, one of the four tunnels unearthed in the past year, could have reached the closest Israeli community within five minutes. Last week, after I entered the “Israeli” third of a tunnel without bending down, I asked a senior IDF officer if he could promise that another Palestinian tunnel was not being dug out under our feet as we spoke. “One?” He replied. “Why not 10?”

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Genesis 4: 1-8

1 Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, “I have gotten a manchild with the help of Yahweh.” 2 Again, she gave birth to his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. 3 So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to Yahweh of the fruit of the ground. 4 Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions. And Yahweh had regard for Abel and for his offering; 5 but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard. So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell. 6 Then Yahweh said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? 7 “If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.” 8 Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.

  • Falsely Accused is a true story about a young woman who was accused of committing a double homicide.  It’s about a travesty of justice, and it reveals Yahweh intervening in the life of a believer to rescue her from danger in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.  Everyone will enjoy the book, but young people in particular need to read it because the mistakes made that led to the problem could have been avoided.  They were the kinds of mistakes that young people are prone to make.  As they say, forewarned is forearmed.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
