Dr. Keith Ablow—Four things America should learn from Israel:

Like most kids, when I was a boy I would blow on a dandelion, make a wish and watch the seeds scatter in the wind. I imagined one of them taking root somewhere, along with that wish of mine.

If a child were to have wished for what is good in America to drift far away and take root, we can now think of Israel as the flower that has grown from it — symbolically enough, in the desert.

While this country was losing its courage to confront adversaries, its comfort in knowing God and its certainty about love of liberty, Israel was affirming all of that, and more.

13--Perspectives 2

#####

Soeren Kern: Austria: Muslims Outnumber Catholics in Vienna Schools— Austria is also in the process of introducing new taxpayer-funded textbooks for the formal teaching if Islam in all public elementary schools across the country…. This is the first time Islam is being taught to Austrian students in the German language. “What remains, then, is to conquer Rome. This means Islam will come back to Europe for a third time, after it was expelled from it twice. We will conquer Europe! We will conquer America! Not through the sword but through our Dawa [proselytizing].” — Yusuf al-Qaradawi, Muslim Brotherhood.

Tom Wilson: White House Thinks Anti-Semitism Is “Disappointing”—The only member of the White House press corps to be denied a visa by Saudi Arabia for the upcoming visit by President Obama is Michael Wilner, a Jewish American. In response the White House has expressed its “deep disappointment.” We all know what this is on Saudi Arabia’s part: it’s the most open form of politically motivated anti-Semitism. This is an outrage, and the administration should describe it as such. Mr. Wilner is an American citizen; the discrimination at work here is clear.

Aaron David Miller: The U.S.-Saudi Relationship Really Is Too Big to Fail—As President Obama heads off to Riyadh this week, the list of issues on which U.S. and Saudi leaders don’t agree has gotten pretty long. Riyadh opposed Mubarak’s fall; we sounded like we welcomed it. They saw the Morsi Muslim Brotherhood government as a threat; we were prepared to live with it. They fully supported the Egyptian military coup and backed it with billions; we waffled and conditioned our military assistance to Egypt. They backed the Khalifa family in Bahrain; initially we supported reform in their backyard. They remain worried that a Shi’a government close to Iran rules just across their border in Baghdad; we enabled it. Indeed, the Saudis see the Middle East as a struggle between good Sunnis and bad Shi’a; we refuse to take sides.

Dennis Ross: Next test for Obama: Soothing the Saudis— President Obama will visit Saudi Arabia this week. Based on what I hear from key Saudis, he is in for a rough reception. Rarely have the Saudis been more skeptical about the United States, and if the president is to affect Saudi behavior, it is important for him to understand why. Fundamentally, the Saudis believe that America’s friends and interests are under threat, and the U.S. response has ranged from indifference to accommodation. The Saudis see Iran trying to encircle them with its Quds Force active in Bahrain, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and their own eastern province. The Saudis see an Iranian effort to shift the balance of forces in the region dramatically in Tehran’s favor, whether by killing Sunni Muslims in Syria, mobilizing Shiite Muslim militias in Iraq, providing arms to the Houthi rebels in Yemen or fomenting unrest among Saudi Shiites.

David Andrew Weinberg: Textbook Diplomacy: Why the State Department Shelved a Study on Incitement in Saudi Education Materials—With President Obama poised to visit Saudi Arabia at the end of this month, there is a looming counterterrorism problem: Saudi Arabia’s ongoing sponsorship of religious hatred in its public education system. In 2011, the State Department commissioned a comprehensive study on Saudi Arabia’s government-published textbooks, which are widely distributed both inside the country and abroad. However, when the study was ready for release in 2012, U.S. government officials decided not to publish it. Current and former officials assert that the study was withheld because of how bad it makes the Saudis look. Passages continue to dehumanize Jews and Christians, promote the murder of homosexuals, and sanction violence against Muslims who do not follow the Wahhabi brand of Islam sponsored by the Saudi state.

Jonathan Spyer: New Sunni Insurgency in Iraq—Iraq today stands on the brink of a renewed Sunni insurgency. Over 9,000 people were killed in fighting in Iraq in 2013, the highest since 2007. The two main insurgent groups are ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) and the Naqshbandi Army. ISIS experienced a resurgence during the Syrian civil war, and today it controls much of Raqqa province in eastern Syria. The Naqshbandi Army is headed by Izzat Ibrahim al-Duri, a former high official in Saddam Hussein’s regime, and many of the Naqshbandi commanders and fighters are former members of the Ba’ath party. They support the Naqshabandi Sufi Muslim sect, from which their name derives, while the Ba’athist and pan-Arab element is dominant.

Lori Plotkin Boghardt: Iranian Aid to Fighters in the Gulf Peninsula— On March 6, Bahrain’s foreign minister told the UN Human Rights Council that the ongoing violence in his country “is directly supported by elements of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” Although the statement does not accurately explain all political violence in Bahrain, such claims should not necessarily be dismissed as government propaganda, since U.S. intelligence assesses that Iran is in fact providing arms and more to Bahraini and other fighters in the Arabian Peninsula. To curb this assistance, Washington should increase support to important Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) partners.

Awad Mustafa: Iran’s 2 Navies Bring Mixture of Threats— Despite limited capabilities and lacking in modernization, Iran has always been seen as the major naval threat in the Arabian Gulf region. Experts agree this is due to its ability for irregular warfare and to threaten, intimidate and conduct asymmetrical operations and wars of attrition. According to the January “Gulf Military Balance” report by Anthony Cordesman, with the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Iran is sometimes described as the “Hegemon of the Gulf.” But it is a comparatively weak conventional military power with limited modernization since the Iran-Iraq War.

Ephraim Asculai and Emily B. Landau: Verification in Iran: No Substitute for Prevention— The claim by US negotiator Wendy Sherman that “verification” is the key element in ensuring that the Iranian nuclear program is and remains completely peaceful has resonated in a string of US statements in the same vein, aimed to reassure skeptics that the United States will be able to detect and deal in a timely manner with an Iranian breakout to nuclear weapons. However, while verification is no doubt an essential component of any comprehensive deal with Iran, it should not be regarded as the linchpin of a successful agreement. Placing so much weight on successful verification is a dangerous proposition, and raises the concern that the P5+1 may be willing to entertain a deal that does not dismantle all the key components of the program that support Iran’s military ambitions. The role of verification is to ensure that Iran upholds its commitment to remain non-nuclear, but verification is no substitute for the commitment itself.

Kathleen Parker: Hobby Lobby case creates unexpected allies in Dershowitz and Starr— When it comes to tackling complicated legal issues, one would be hard-pressed to conjure a less likely partnership than Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz and Baylor University President Ken Starr. Well, okay, there was the David Boies and Ted Olson confederacy fighting for gay marriage rights after they took opposite sides during the 2000 Bush-Gore election dispute. Still, witnessing Dershowitz and Starr discuss and largely agree on religious liberty issues raised by the case popularly known as Hobby Lobby was pleasantly jarring.

Israel: Abbas refusal to discuss ‘Jewish state’ torpedoing talks

Jordanian king vows to protect Jerusalem

SnyderTalk Comment: Jordan’s King Abdullah is acting like a barking dog—a Chihuahua.  That should come as no surprise.  He is experiencing unrest in his country that threatens to destroy his Hashemite Kingdom, and in the Arab world when all else fails, it’s always a safe bet to blast Israel and Jews.

Even if Abdullah wanted to “protect Jerusalem”, there is nothing that he could do.  That’s what I mean by “barking Chihuahua”.  Regrettably for him, his enemies in Jordan know how toothless he is.

Obama’s foreign policy hurting him, new poll says

SnyderTalk Comment: Foreign policy: what foreign policy?  If you examine Obama’s words and actions, you will discover that he says whatever he thinks people want to hear, and then he does whatever he wants to do.  In a nutshell, the United States under Obama has no “foreign policy”.

He has successfully undermined our relationships with our allies and emboldened our enemies.  U.S. foreign policy today is more accurately described as Obama’s whims, and his predilections tend toward ingratiating himself to radical Islamists.  It’s becoming so obvious that many of his ardent supporters are beginning to see the truth and turn against him.  I hope and pray that it’s not too late.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Malachi 1: 12-14

“But you are profaning it [My Name], in that you say, ‘The table of Yahweh is defiled, and as for its fruit, its food is to be despised.’ You also say, ‘My, how tiresome it is!’ And you disdainfully sniff at it,” says Yahweh Sabaoth, “and you bring what was taken by robbery and what is lame or sick; so you bring the offering! Should I receive that from your hand?” says Yahweh. “But cursed be the swindler who has a male in his flock and vows it, but sacrifices a blemished animal to the Lord, for I am a great King,” says Yahweh Sabaoth, “and My name is feared among the nations.”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.

Other Books by Neil Snyder

  • Stand! is a suspense novel that exposes the lies, corruption, and greed underlying the theory that man-made CO2 emissions are responsible for global warming.  Professor Wes Carlyle and Karen Sterling, his research collaborator, carefully scan the audience for their would-be attacker—a member of the enviro-gestapo who has been following them for days.  Wes spots his man in the back of the room leaning against the wall.  Suddenly, another man in the audience steps forward and moves toward Karen at a menacing pace.  With a vicious stroke, he swings a billy club at her head.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
  • What Will You Do with the Rest of Your Life? deals with a question that every Christian has to consider: what should I do with my life?  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
  • Falsely Accused is a true story about a young woman who was accused of committing a double homicide.  It’s about a travesty of justice, and it reveals Yahweh intervening in the life of a believer to rescue her from danger in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.  Everyone will enjoy the book, but young people in particular need to read it because the mistakes made that led to the problem could have been avoided.  They were the kinds of mistakes that young people are prone to make.  As they say, forewarned is forearmed.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
