Caroline Glick—Why Obama will not change gears:

Just before Russian President Vladimir Putin orchestrated Russia’s takeover of Crimea, the US’s Broadcasting Board of Governors that controls Radio Free Europe and Radio Liberty announced that it will be ending its broadcast to Iraq and the Balkans next year.

And this makes sense. As far as the Obama administration is concerned, Iraq ceased to exist in 2011, when the last US forces got out of the country.

As for the Baltics, well, really who cares about them? Russia, after all, wants the same things America does. Everything will be fine.

As Obama said to Governor Mitt Romney during one of the 2012 presidential debates, “The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because the Cold War’s been over for 20 years.”

Walter Russell Mead: Russia Warns: We’ll Play the Iran Card Against U.S., EU—Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Wednesdaythat Russia could “raise the stakes” in its confrontation with the West over Ukraine by revising its stance on Iran. The threat has teeth. If Russia switches its stance from pushing Iran, however lightly, toward abandoning its nuclear program toward tacitly or overtly promising to support Iran regardless of the nuclear issue, the West’s strategy toward Iran could rapidly unravel. Linking the Ukraine crisis with the Iran negotiation is an American nightmare; it might just be a Russian dream come true. If Russia shifts into active cooperation with Iran, it is hard to see how the White House can keep hope alive. If this statement really represents Russian policy rather than rhetoric, President Obama may have to choose between a shattering humiliation in the Black Sea, or a significantly greater risk of war in the Persian Gulf.

Emily Landau: Another round, another deception— As the world remains riveted by the crisis in Crimea, gleaning information about the second round of talks between Iran and the P5+1 over a comprehensive nuclear agreement has never been harder. Any reports there were focused mostly on the question of whether the Crimean crisis would affect Russia’s position in the P5+1. There was little reporting on the actual content of the talks, other than the fact that two issues were central to the discussion: the level of uranium enrichment in Iran, and the facility in Arak, which, if it keeps functioning at its current rate, could produce enough plutonium for Iran to have a nuclear weapon.

Sky News Australia: West increases sanctions on Russia—Europe and the US have ramped up pressure on Russia over the annexation of Crimea, imposing sanctions on senior figures close to President Vladimir Putin, who retaliated in a deepening of the worst East-West crisis since the Cold War. In Brussels, European Union leaders slapped an asset freeze and travel ban on 12 more Russians and Ukrainians, bringing to 33 the number of figures targeted by the European bloc. The EU move came on the heels of an announcement by US President Barack Obama of a new round of punitive measures against 20 Russian MPs and senior government officials, in addition to 11 individuals already targeted.

Lt. Col. (ret.) Jonathan D. Halevi: Has Mahmoud Abbas Really Accepted the Clinton Parameters on the Refugee Problem?—Mahmoud Abbas’ claim to have accepted the Clinton Parameters on the refugee issue is not consistent with his demand for recognition of the personal right of return of each individual refugee, which he made before the Fatah Revolutionary Council on March 12, 2014. The Clinton Parameters explicitly state that the Palestinian refugees’ settlement in Israel would require a sovereign Israeli decision, and must accord with the principle that Palestine is the Palestinian homeland and Israel is the Jewish homeland.

Irfan Al-Alawi: Islamist Terror Challenge Continues in Britain—  As Britain continues to wrestle with the challenge of radical Islam and its product, terrorism, on March 2, 2014, London Mayor Boris Johnson contributed a column to one of Britain’s leading journals, The Sunday Telegraph, “The children taught at home about murder and bombings.” Johnson’s commentary correctly placed radical Islamist ideology in the same category with pedophilia and female genital mutilation (FGM) as moral abominations with which the British political class has failed adequately to contend, and continued, “I worry that their work is being hampered by what I am obliged to call political correctness. … There is built in to the British system a reluctance to be judgmental about someone else’s culture, even if that reluctance places children at risk” – a decision, Johnson said, that led to abusers being “emboldened.” Johnson continued…

Michael Curtis: Naming the Bigots— The biased bigots are out again with their attack on Israel during “the apartheid week” in the month of March. What is perpetually amazing is that people and organizations supposedly devoted to the ideals of humanism and humanitarianism such as the officials and members of various religious denominations, teachers, and students in institutions of higher education, and charitable organizations should be so full of hatred against one nation in the world, the Jewish State. It is appropriate that they should be named and called to account for their prejudice, bias, hatred, and possible anti-Semitism.

Oded Eran and Yoel Guzansky: Political Islam on the Defensive— Notwithstanding the initial successes scored by political Islam with the uprising in the Middle East, the politically-oriented Sunni movements in the Arab world, be they the veteran Muslim Brotherhood or newer groups, have been put on the defensive. From Tunisia to the Persian Gulf, Arab regimes and societies are showing resilience and determination as they confront the attempt to impose a radical Islamic interpretation on their way of life. However, the split among the Gulf states on the role and status of political Islam is liable to be rife with ramifications for the role and status of Iran. The crisis allows Iran – interested in driving a wedge among the six states in order to prevent the formation of a united front against it – to deepen the split among the Gulf states and isolate the Saudis from their smaller neighbors. Furthermore, the crisis will certainly not make it any easier for the United States to attain goals that require security cooperation among the six Arab Gulf states, e.g., the deployment of anti-missile defense systems meant to provide a better response to the Iranian threat.

Dan Diker: The World From Here: Has Obama unmasked Abbas?— The March 17 meeting between US President Barack Obama and PA President Mahmoud Abbas revealed little new information. There was no breakthrough. This is little surprise; Abbas finds himself hemmed in by the US framework agreement, cornered by unprecedented dissension within the Fatah party, and left bereft of Palestinian support in the West Bank and Gaza.

Elder of Ziyon: Abbas Says Outrageous Things to Obama, No One Cares— Whenever Bibi Netanyahu visits the White House, every word and gesture and demeanor is micro-analyzed to find indications of friction or combativeness or discomfort. Yet earlier this week, Mahmoud Abbas visited President Obama and said some outrageous things that were roundly ignored by the media. “I would also like to affirm what you have said, that we are working for a solution that is based on international legitimacy and also the borders — the 1967 borders so that the Palestinians can have their own independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital and so that we can find a fair and lasting solution to the refugee problem.”

Annie Gowen: Holy hell: Fred Phelps, clergyman, is on a crusade—The Day-Glo signs are strung out like rosary beads along the walkway to the church. “Thank God for AIDS,” reads one. “Fags Burn in Hell,” says another. Parishioner Randy Debenham pauses in the chill of the early November morning, his three small children clinging to him, spruced up in their Sunday best. “We don’t always get singing,” says Debenham with a pained smile, gesturing to three nearby picketers, who are serenading the good people of First Lutheran Church with “Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken,” their mouths as round as Christmas carolers’. “Sometimes they’ll be cursing,” Debenham says. “But most of the time they just stand there quietly and hold their signs. It hasn’t been too violent, except for the time they tried to beat up our pastor.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Zechariah 14: 12-15

Now this will be the plague with which Yahweh will strike all the peoples who have gone to war against Jerusalem; their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, and their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongue will rot in their mouth. It will come about in that day that a great panic from Yahweh will fall on them; and they will seize one another’s hand, and the hand of one will be lifted against the hand of another. Judah also will fight at Jerusalem; and the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be gathered, gold and silver and garments in great abundance. So also like this plague will be the plague on the horse, the mule, the camel, the donkey and all the cattle that will be in those camps.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
