Steve Apfel—The Lawless Label: ‘Made by Jews!’:

For how much longer can the war of words over the legality of settlements rage back and forth? Even a final verdict, for or against, would be unproductive. Legal or not, some 400,000 Jews in 130 settlement towns aren’t going anywhere, and demanding that they go reflects a desire for ethnic cleansing that we may relegate to a league for criminal maniacs.

Those without a bone to pick would accept facts on the ground and enter a war of words that will go somewhere. Europe’s trade policy for ‘occupation’ products has a murky record that looks set to get grubby. Now there’s a war worth fighting.

“There do not appear to be any European Commission laws which could be breached by a member state taking the decision to ban the import of settlement produce…”

With this ruling Cambridge professor of international law, James Crawford gave Europe the nod. Go ahead – ban settlement products.

Prof. Abraham Ben-Zvi: Obama: The lion that chirped— Recent weeks have been marked by a flood of events and statements by U.S. representatives that, at least at first glance, showed intent to stop the ongoing decline in the U.S.’s superpower status and offer credibility and relevance in a number of contexts. But it is doubtful whether any of these declarations will be fulfilled.

Khaled Abu Toameh: Hamas: Teaching Human Rights is Against Palestinian, Islamic Culture— Hamas’ real problem with the UNRWA curriculum is that it could spoil the Islamist movement’s ongoing efforts to stir the hearts and minds of Palestinian children to wage jihad against the “enemies” of Islam. Hamas wants Palestinian children to be taught how to become suicide bombers and seek the death of Jews and “infidels.”

Soeren Kern: Teenage Jihadists, Car Burnings and Muslim-Only Cemeteries— One month into 2014, Islam-related controversies continued making headlines in newspapers across Europe. The most salient topic involved the dramatic increase in the numbers of European jihadists participating in the war in Syria. An ominous foreboding is unfolding over Europe, as counter-terrorism officials intensify their warnings about the negative security implications surrounding the return of hundreds—possibly thousands—of battle-hardened jihadists to towns and cities across the continent. But Syria is only one of many concerns. What follows is a brief survey of some of the more noteworthy stories involving Islam in Europe during just the month of January 2014.

Michael Widlanski: Demography vs. Demagoguery: Europe vs. Israel— People who predict population trends need to learn from weather forecasters: when your forecasts are wrong more than right, go home before they lock you at home.‎ Many who yell “demography” when discussing ‎Israel’s future, pretend to have the facts on their side. Actually, they do not have a clue. Some politicians and think tanks claim to have examined “demography,” the study of population, but, actually, they practice “demagoguery,” the art of swaying populations and gaining popularity.

Eli E. Hertz: The Artificiality of the Historical Palestinian Identity— The artificiality of a Palestinian identity is reflected in the attitudes and actions of neighboring Arab states that never established a Palestinian state or advocated one prior to the Six-Day War in 1967. What unites Palestinian Arabs has been their opposition to Jewish nationalism and the desire to stamp it out, not aspirations for their own state. Local patriotic feelings are generated only when a non-Islamic entity takes charge – such as Israel did in 1967 after the Six-Day War, and dissipates under Arab rule, as it was under the rule of Jordan prior to 1967. Culturally, Palestinians are not distinct from other Arabs. The sole contributions Palestinians can take credit for are the invention of skyjacking for political purposes in the 1960s, and a special brand of suicidal terrorism that uses their own youth as delivery systems for bombing pizza parlors, discos, and public commuter buses.

Lee S. Bender and Jerome R. Verlin: Forgotten Even By Us: Judaism’s Historic Ties to Israel—With Palestinian Arabs claiming Canaanite descent, the Jewish people must make their case for their historical ties to the land of Israel. The biblical era, from Israelite origins in the land through the Second Temple’s destruction, is well-known in the West. The tenacious continued Jewish presence thereafter isn’t.‎

Ephraim Kam and Zvi Magen: The New Contacts between Egypt and Russia: How Far Will They Go?— In recent months there has been a significant, even unprecedented rise in contacts between Russia and the new government in Egypt. The main topic discussed in these talks is increasing bilateral military cooperation. According to many reports, a large arms deal, to the tune of $2-3 billion, was discussed, and possibly even reached. If the talks between Egypt and Russia lead to a significant arms deal, this would represent an important change in Egyptian policy. In 1974, after Egypt switched from a pro-Soviet orientation to political, military, and economic dependence on the United States, the Soviet Union stopped supplying Egypt with weapons. A decision by the current Egyptian government several months after it came to power to sign a large arms deal with Russia implies that it is prepared to change, even to a limited extent, the balance of its relations with the two large powers.

Dr. Gabi Avital: Kerry, we hear you loud and clear— Toward the end of the previous century, during a visit to the U.S. by Ariel Sharon, a disagreement emerged between him and several members of Congress over U.S. obligations toward Israel. The minimalists felt the U.S. owed Israel — for being an ally, a strategic asset, an intelligence provider and military testing ground — some $50 billion. The maximalists sought around $80 billion for these services. No gift is free.

Maya Shwayder: Prosor to UN: Syria’s atrocities are being underwritten by Iran— Syria and Iran together have “defied every code of morality” in the Syrian civil war, Israel’s representative to the UN Ron Prosor told the UN General Assembly on Tuesday at an all-hands-on-deck briefing about the humanitarian situation in Syria. “The Syrian regime’s murderous rampage is being underwritten by the undertakers of Tehran,” Prosor said.

Dmitriy Shapiro: AIPAC Conference Clouded by Uncertainty on Iran and Israel-PA Talks— Coming off of what many observers characterized as an off year in terms of getting its agenda implemented in Washington, DC, the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is welcoming upwards of 14,000 attendees at its March 2-4 annual policy conference, which will set the pro-Israel lobby’s 2014 initiatives.

4--Scripture of the Day Yahweh

Zechariah 9: 5-8

Ashkelon will see it and be afraid. Gaza too will writhe in great pain; also Ekron, for her expectation has been confounded. Moreover, the king will perish from Gaza, and Ashkelon will not be inhabited. And a mongrel race will dwell in Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines. And I will remove their blood from their mouth and their detestable things from between their teeth. Then they also will be a remnant for our God, and be like a clan in Judah, and Ekron like a Jebusite. But I will camp around My house because of an army, because of him who passes by and returns; and no oppressor will pass over them anymore, for now I have seen with My eyes.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.

  • Falsely Accused is a true story about a young woman who was accused of committing a double homicide.  It’s about a travesty of justice, and it reveals Yahweh intervening in the life of a believer to rescue her from danger in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.  Everyone will enjoy the book, but young people in particular need to read it because the mistakes made that led to the problem could have been avoided.  They were the kinds of mistakes that young people are prone to make.  As they say, forewarned is forearmed.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
