Ronald S. Lauder—The West is still failing Hitler’s test:

Seventy-five years ago this weekend, the entire world faced one of history’s great moral tests. It failed miserably.

On November 9, 1938, Adolf Hitler set loose the darkest impulses of mankind in a brutal attack that raged across Germany and Austria. It was called Kristallnacht, or Night of the Broken Glass, referring to all the broken glass shimmering in the streets. More than 1,000 synagogues were burned, the windows of Jewish businesses were smashed and shops looted, individual Jews were rounded up and put into concentration camps. Some 400 were murdered.

Firemen stood idly by just to make sure the fires didn’t spread past the synagogues. The police helped the rioters.

For the past 75 years, people have made the mistake of regarding this event merely as an inner-German affair. But Kristallnacht was much more than just a nation-wide pogrom against the Jews of Germany and Austria. It was really Hitler’s test to see how the West would respond. And that lack of response would set into motion everything that followed.

Zach Pontz: Al Jazeera Bankrolling Exiled Muslim Brotherhood Leaders as They Chart Strategy for Political Islam—Al Jazeera is footing the bill for several Muslim Brotherhood members who have fled to Doha, The Washington Post has reported. The newspaper said that several Brotherhood “exiles live temporarily in hotel suites paid for by Qatar’s state-run Arabic satellite network Al Jazeera — and it is in those suites and hotel lobbies that the future of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and, more broadly, the strategy and ideology of political Islam in the country may well be charted.” The international news network, which recently launched a channel in the United States, is funded by the Qatari royal family. Earlier this year, following the removal of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, authorities in the country banned the network, calling it a threat to national security for its pro-Muslim Brotherhood stance.

Raymond Ibrahim: Obama Accused of ‘Crimes Against Humanity’ at International Criminal Court— According to Egyptian newspaper El Watan, a group of Egyptian lawyers has submitted a complaint charging U.S. president Barrack Hussein Obama with crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court. The complaint charges Obama of being an accessory to the Muslim Brotherhood, which incited widespread violence in Egypt both before and after the June 30 Revolution.

Boaz Bismuth: What has Iran learned?— Iran and the superpowers are very keen on quickly getting a deal done in Geneva, each side for its own reasons: The Iranians because their economy is crumbling (the sanctions are working); the West because it wants to permanently remove the military option from the table, which scares the superpowers more than the Iranians do. The big story — the one Jerusalem has been worried about — was leaked, despite the discretion employed in Geneva, two days ago. Iran has a plan, and it is enchanting to the United Sates. They will suspend some their nuclear activity, and in exchange the West will ease some of the economic sanctions that have been making life difficult for the Iranians. Everyone is happy.

Ariel Ben Solomon: Wishful Thinking on U.S.-Iran Nuclear Deal—Michael Rubin, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute and a former Pentagon official, told the Jerusalem Post: “The chances that Iran will come in from the cold are between zero and nil. First of all, let’s not scapegoat Israel for a demand of zero enrichment. That is what four unanimous or near-unanimous Security Council resolutions demand of Iran.”

Jerold S. Auerbach: Kerry in Wonderland—While President Obama was busy retracting promises and apologizing for his health care debacle, Secretary of State Kerry was frantically commuting between Jerusalem, Ramallah and Amman in a desperate effort to salvage unraveling Israeli-Palestinian peace negotiations. But his inflated fantasies and ominous predictions only exacerbated the problem.

David Ignatius: The Shape of an Iran Deal—Israeli experts have insisted that Iran must show it doesn’t have “breakout” capability by mothballing centrifuges (especially the newer, more efficient models) and by refraining from bringing online a planned heavy-water nuclear reactor at Arak. Otherwise, say the Israelis, the Iranians could continue to creep closer to breakout capability under the cover of negotiations.

John Bolton: A Korean Ghost Lurks at U.S.-Iran Nuclear Talks—Are Iran and North Korea cooperating on their nuclear-weapons programs? If so, their efforts undermine, and may preclude, Barack Obama’s diplomatic attempts to address these threats separately. The issue is especially timely now as Mr. Obama’s negotiators rush to make a deal with Iran.     Back in North Korea, the Kim regime has been enriching uranium for more than a decade, as Washington concluded in 2002 and Pyongyang admitted shortly thereafter. The enrichment program significantly expanded in 2010, in full public view at Yongbyon, unlike earlier efforts which were concealed at a still-unknown location.

Avner Golov: How to Test Iran’s Strategy—Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei would support an early agreement with the West only if Rouhani can reach a deal that will preserve Iranian nuclear capabilities. Otherwise, Khamenei might prefer to drag out the talks indefinitely before they are pronounced a failure, thereby further advancing Iran’s nuclear capabilities and reducing the threat of a Western assault on its nuclear infrastructure.     To test Iran’s strategy, the U.S. must shorten the timetable for reaching an agreement in order to create a final, comprehensive package deal that will resolve all the aspects of the Iranian nuclear issue. This will allow the West to determine whether the Iranians are dragging their feet or not. Confidence-building measures must be made conditional on significant concessions at the end of a short, predetermined period of time.

David Nirenberg: The Devil That Never Dies: Global Antisemitism by Daniel Jonah Goldhagen—Daniel Jonah Goldhagen’s first book, Hitler’s Willing Executioners(1996), had the blunt thesis: Inspired by a uniquely German “eliminationist anti-Semitism” inherited from the Middle Ages, ordinary Germans killed millions of Jews during the Holocaust because they wanted to. “Eliminationist anti-Semitism” is also the subject of Goldhagen’s new book, The Devil That Never Dies, but now the entire world is in its grip, with the possible exception of the U.S. Goldhagen offers numerous examples of individuals – from human rights advocates and French ambassadors to any number of Muslim politicians – who openly advocate the elimination of the State of Israel and its people. Today it seems acceptable, even praiseworthy in many circles, to move from criticizing Israel to suggesting its disappearance.

Roy Gutman: Obama vowed to prevent a nuclear Iran; Iran promised to show who’s boss— Shortly before flying here for the most important talks yet about Iran’s controversial nuclear program, Iran’s foreign minister stated firmly that his country would never give up its capability to enrich uranium — even though it already has enough to break out of the nonproliferation treaty and build a nuclear weapon. Javad Zarif’s argument was that Iran’s enrichment program is a reality that Iran cannot abandon. “With all the scientists we have, we now have indigenous technology … you cannot kill the program … you cannot kill thousands of scientists, you cannot destroy the technology. You cannot sweep it under the rug,” he told a forum in Istanbul.

4--Scripture of the Day USE THIS ONE

The scripture below is from the New American Standard Bible, and the hyperlinks associated with each word are from Strong’s Concordance for the New American Standard Bible.

Jonah 1: 1-3

The word of Yahweh came to Jonah the son of Amittai saying, “Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.” But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of Yahweh. So he went down to Joppa, found a ship which was going to Tarshish, paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of Yahweh.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
