Israel Hayom—Kerry: America will stand by Israel’s side:

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry arrived in Israel on Tuesday night as part of ongoing U.S. efforts to mediate a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. His first stop was Rabin Square in Tel Aviv, where he lay a wreath at the monument that marks the spot where then-Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated on November 4, 1995.

“I come here without any illusions about the difficulties, but I come here determined to work with leaders … to try to find a way forward,” Kerry said, referring to the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. “We will continue to work, and I promise Israelis that America will stand by the side of Israel every step of the way. We believe [peace] is something that is possible, that is good for all, and that it can be achieved.”

At Rabin Square, Kerry was joined by Yitzhak Rabin’s daughter Dalia Rabin and Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai, as well as U.S. Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro and Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Ron Dermer.

Zalman Shoval: America in isolation— In the United States, the 1930s and 1940s were years of extreme isolationism and alienation toward the rest of the world in general and foreigners in particular. The prevalent motto in Congress and the media was: “Leave us alone with your problems.” Not unrelated to this isolationist atmosphere, a strong wave of anti-Semitism spread throughout the U.S. at that time. It sometimes turned violent, which led some prominent American Jews, like Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter and Jewish-owned newspapers like The New York Times to ignore the distress of the Jews in Europe, “so as to avoid arousing more waves of anti-Semitism.”

Elliott Abrams: Does the US stand for anything at all?— Does the United States stand for anything at all? Do we have a view about, say, slavery, or child prostitution, or the stoning of gays? What should be a ridiculous question is raised by Secretary of State John Kerry’s offensive obeisance to the Saudis yesterday when visiting Riyadh. Here is the AP story: “On the move for Saudi women to be allowed to drive, Kerry was careful not to appear to take sides. Noting that while the United States embraces gender equality, ‘it is up to Saudi Arabia to make its own decisions about its own social structure and choices and the timing of whatever events.'”

Yolande Knell: Israel-Palestinian Talks: Why Fate of Jordan Valley Is Key—The fertile, largely undeveloped Jordan Valley makes up a quarter of the West Bank. It was captured by Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War, and most of it is still under Israel’s military and administrative control. Israel says it cannot give up the valley for reasons of security. The fate of the valley is said to be one of the points on which Israeli and Palestinian negotiators are struggling to find a compromise. In October, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told a Knesset meeting, “Our strength is the guarantee for our existence and peace….This requires a security border in the Jordan Valley, as Rabin said in his last speech.” Israeli media report that Netanyahu plans to build a new security barrier in the Jordan Valley and rejects the introduction of international forces to guard the border.

Mitch Ginsburg: One Year after IDF Gaza Operation, Hamas Maintains Quiet While Preparing Future Attacks—Nearly one year after Israel’s eight-day offensive in Gaza, during which Palestinians fired over 1,500 rockets at Israel, Brig.-Gen. (res.) Yossi Kuperwasser, director general of the Ministry of Strategic Affairs, hailed the enduring nature of the relative quiet. He asserted that Hamas has not managed to build up its stockpiles to 2012 levels and has shifted its focus to the ability to carry out strategic rocket strikes and raids. Today, “the focus is on…trying to reach farther or to carry out some strategic operations,” he said, citing the recent tunnel discoveries as an example.

Khaled Abu Toameh: PA Wants EU, UN, Russia Involved in Peace Talks—The Palestinian Authority appears to be doing its utmost to internationalize the conflict with Israel. The Palestinians want other international parties, especially the EU, UN, and Russia, to play a major role in the current U.S.-sponsored peace talks, since these parties are perceived as being more sympathetic to, and supportive of, the Palestinians.

Mohammed Mar’i: Palestinian Authority: Balfour Declaration a Crime against Humanity—The Palestinian Authority (PA) on Saturday said that the Balfour Declaration that paved the way for the creation of Israel in 1948 “is a crime against humanity.” On Nov. 2, 1917, British Foreign Secretary Arthur James Balfour announced that his government views “with favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people,” laying the foundation for the creation of Israel more than 30 years later.

Razan Zeitoune: Relief Aid for Syrians Going to Regime Loyalists—In Syria, when a regime official calls the local Red Crescent chapter and asks for food rations, local aid workers cannot deny this request. In many cases, regime officials pressure families benefiting from aid into giving information about rebels as a precondition for allowing aid deliveries to continue.

Nadia Hilou: The 2013 Municipal Elections in the Israeli Arab Communities— The 1.5 million Arabs who live in Israel constitute nearly 20 percent of the population. According to figures of late 2013, there are 257 local authorities in Israel, 85 of which are in the Arab sector. This article looks at the October 22, 2013 municipal elections in the Arab communities, which differed in style and character from the local elections elsewhere in Israel. Over the years, the voter turnout in local elections in the Arab community has been an extremely high 85-90 percent. Likewise the 2013 elections saw a very high turnout, certainly in comparison with the nationwide figures of under 50 percent. The Arabs regard local politics as important, because it is their sole organizational framework and channel to advance their political, social, and economic development.

Dr. Ephraim Kam: ‘Death to America,’ with a smile— This event was nothing new. Since the early 1980s, on every Nov. 4, thousands of Iranians demonstrate outside the former U.S. embassy in Tehran to mark the anniversary of the taking of the American hostages, who were held for 444 days. The ritual is familiar: hateful speeches by Iranian leaders against the U.S. and Israel, chants of “Death to America” and “Death to Israel,” and the burning of U.S. and Israeli flags. Over the years, the demonstration has become routine, with the number of participants gradually decreasing.

Elliott Abrams: Electing the new UN Human Rights Council— On Nov. 12, the new members of the U.N. Human Rights Council will be elected. Among the candidates are nations that should never be allowed on the council, and indeed whose presence will make the council a mockery: Cuba, Russia, Saudi Arabia, China and Vietnam. Perhaps the U.S. cannot prevent countries with the human rights records of these five from being elected. There are two things we should do, however. First, we should fight, trying to organize resistance to the election of any of these five human rights abusers. Even if they cannot be kept off, a very substantial number of no votes will be a useful embarrassment to them, showing that many countries condemn their records.

4--Scripture of the Day USE THIS ONE

The scripture below is from the New American Standard Bible, and the hyperlinks associated with each word are from Strong’s Concordance for the New American Standard Bible.

Obadiah 1: 15-17

“For the day of Yahweh draws near on all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you. Your dealings will return on your own head. Because just as you drank on My holy mountain, all the nations will drink continually. They will drink and swallow and become as if they had never existed. But on Mount Zion there will be those who escape, and it will be holy. And the house of Jacob will possess their possessions.”

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
