Jonathan Sacks—The Courage Not to Conform:

Leaders lead. That does not mean to say that they don’t follow. But what they follow is different from what most people follow. They don’t conform for the sake of conforming. They don’t do what others do merely because others are doing it. They follow an inner voice, a call. They have a vision, not of what is, but of what might be. They think outside the box. They march to a different tune.

Never was this more dramatically signaled than in the first words of God to Abraham, the words that set Jewish history in motion: “Leave your land, your birthplace, and your father’s house and go to the land that I will show you.”

Why? Because people do conform. They adopt the standards and absorb the culture of the time and place in which they live – “your land.” At a deeper level they are influenced by friends and neighbors – “your birthplace.” More deeply still, they are shaped by their parents and the family in which they grew up – “your father’s house.”

13--Perspectives 2

#####

Robert Spencer: The Muslim Brotherhood President— The State Department announced Wednesday that it was cutting hundreds of millions in military and other aid to Egypt, and make no mistake: this was not a government shutdown move. This was the President of the United States blackmailing a sovereign state to force it to restore the Muslim Brotherhood government he favors. With the Egyptian economy in crisis and Egypt strongly dependent on this aid, Obama has just effectively cast his vote for the Muslim Brotherhood’s return to power – and his vote outweighs that of millions of Egyptians.

Dr. Ronen A. Cohen: The art of foot dragging and deception— The Geneva talks between Iran and the six world powers will be devoid of content, because the Iran of today will never relinquish its right to go nuclear.

Clifford D. May: Wishful thinking is not a strategy— To stop Iran from becoming a nuclear-armed terrorist state requires tougher sanctions and a credible threat of force.

Irfan al-Alawi and Stephen Schwartz: Saudi Arabia Moves Against Muslim Brotherhood Amid Increased Pressure for Reform—By refusing support to the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood administration of deposed president Mohamed Morsi, Riyadh has found itself allied with Egyptian liberals and secularists, in apparent incongruity with its fundamentalist Wahhabi legacy. In addition, Saudi Arabia is more outspoken than any other Arab country in challenging Iranian ambitions.

Abdul Rahman Al-Rashed: Iran’s Military Nuclear Capabilities—Iran is about to give birth to its prohibited weapon. Iran spent a lot of money and sacrificed a lot over the last decade and a half for the sake of its nuclear program. It is therefore not possible to believe that all of this was geared towards lighting Tehran’s streets using nuclear energy. Iran is implementing a project which cannot be considered anything but a military one.

Nadav Shragai: The “Al-Aksa Is in Danger” Libel: The History of a Lie— The modern blood libel “Al-Aksa is in danger,” referring to the Al-Aksa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, originated in the days of Grand Mufti Haj Amin al-Husseini, ally of Hitler, and is propagated today by Sheikh Raed Salah, Hamas, Hizbullah, Iran, and many others in the Muslim world. Now that it has come to be regarded as unalloyed truth by millions in the Muslim world, it is urgent to address this lie.

Alan Elsner: The sound of J Street clapping— Some of us will remember a device called the “clapometer” used back in the 1950s and 1960s on American TV shows like “Queen for a Day” and British programs such as “Opportunity Knocks.” The machine, which purported to measure the volume or intensity of applause that game show contestants received, had long ago joined the buggy whip and the quill pen in the annals of outmoded technologies – until last week’s J Street conference in Washington DC.

Andrea Wiese: Not just a face— Recently, my face has become fairly well known. Even the man at the fruit stand asked me if I was “The Woman of the Wall.” (I’m certain that is Anat Hoffman, not me.) It wasn’t my choice; I’m not sure I had a choice. Maybe I did; it was my choice to go to Women of the Wall.

Tal Ofer: A Nobel prize in hypocrisy— On Tuesday and Wednesday all of us heard about the amazing achievements of Jewish scientists who won Nobel Prizes this year in Physics and Chemistry. The latest is Arieh Warshel who, together with two other Jewish scientists, won the prize for “development of multi-scale models for complex chemical systems.”

David Horowitz: The Threat We Face— I was born at the beginning of the Second World War into a family of high school teachers who were members of the Communist Party, and therefore were actually part of a vast conspiracy dedicated to the destruction of this country, although they would never have looked at it that way, and so-called liberals would be the first to deny it.

4--Scripture of the Day USE THIS ONE

The scripture below is from the New American Standard Bible, and the hyperlinks associated with each word are from Strong’s Concordance for the New American Standard Bible.

Amos 4: 9-10

“I smote you with scorching [wind] and mildew; and the caterpillar was devouring your many gardens and vineyards, fig trees and olive trees; yet you have not returned to Me,” declares Yahweh. “I sent a plague among you after the manner of Egypt; I slew your young men by the sword along with your captured horses, and I made the stench of your camp rise up in your nostrils; yet you have not returned to Me,” declares Yahweh.

14--Blessings from Revelation 2

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
