David French—President Obama’s War Strategy Requires a Security State – And He Knows It:

Let’s begin with a simple proposition: America faces a remorseless, savage jihadist enemy that is seeking — under the guise of various organizations and support structures — to kill as many Americans as it possibly can. Given the existence of this enemy, only the suicidal or the foolish refuse to defend themselves.

At the risk of over-simplifying, assuming we are not suicidal or (entirely) foolish, our methods of self-defense can be offensive in nature, defensive in nature, or a mixture of both. The PATRIOT Act is primarily defensive. It creates the legal mechanisms for greater intelligence-gathering and information-sharing that allows law enforcement to react more quickly to emerging domestic threats. It was specifically designed to close many of the legal holes in our defense that helped [enable] the 9/11 hijackers. The Afghanistan invasion was offensive, designed to destroy the terrorist infrastructure, kill terrorists, and create a nation-state that would be an effective ally going forward. The Iraq invasion was [similarly] offensive, destroying a terrorist-supporting enemy regime, defeating the follow-on insurgency, then (at least by design) leaving behind a successful, democratic ally that could do military and ideological battle against jihadism in the heart of the Middle East.

4--Scripture of the Day

Daniel 12: 5-8

Then I, Daniel, looked and behold, two others were standing, one on this bank of the river and the other on that bank of the river. And one said to the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long will it be until the end of these wonders?” I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, as he raised his right hand and his left toward heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and half a time; and as soon as they finish shattering the power of the holy people, all these events will be completed. As for me, I heard but could not understand; so I said, “My lord, what will be the outcome of these events?”

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

13--Perspectives

#####

Leo Rennert: ‘Moderate’ win in Iran is the worst possible outcome—Many opinion makers and shapers in the West already seem to be in a swoon over Hassan Ruhani’s victory in Iran’s presidential election. After all, in the six-man field (no women allowed), Ruhani was the only “moderate” or “reformist” and the most likely to give heartburn to Supreme Leader Khamenei.  In fact, some mavens go so far as to call the election outcome a resounding rebuke to Khamenei by Iranian reformers.  Ruhani, with his electoral “mandate” might weaken or soften Khamenei, they postulate.

Andrew G. Bostom: Iranian President-Elect Rohwani on the Sublimity of Khomeini’s ‘Model’—Shiite cleric Hasan Rohwani has been elected as Iran’s next president from amongst a slate of ruling Ayatollah “guardian council”-approved candidates. Hassan Rowhani has a lengthy history in Iranian politics, served as the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council for more than 16 years.  He was also a former deputy speaker of the parliament. During the Mohammad Khatami’s Presidency, in 2003,  Rowhani became Iran’s chief nuclear negotiator. Rowhani maintained the post for two years before being replaced by Ali Larijani when Mahmoud Ahmadinejad assumed the presidency in 2005.

Alon Ben-Meir: Kerry’s Last-ditch Effort— In his upcoming visit to Israel and Palestine, Secretary of State John Kerry will attempt a last-ditch effort to persuade Israel’s Prime Minster Netanyahu and the Palestinian Authority’s President Abbas to resume peace negotiations. If there is, however, the slightest chance of getting the two sides to start talking it would require substantial American pressure and commitment to see the peace process through. Given the regional turmoil, especially in Syria, the question is will the U.S. be prepared to invest that much time and political capital on an uncertain venture when it must now focus on the far more urgent conflict that has the potential to spark regional conflagration.

Khaled Abu Toameh: The Palestinian Authority’s Reign of Terror—Until recently, the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank used to arrest Palestinians who criticized its leaders, especially Mahmoud Abbas. But now the Palestinian Authority has resumed using thugs to break the bones of its critics. The thugs are often members of Abbas’s ruling Fatah faction. However, they do not belong to Palestinian Authority security forces or any government-related agency in the West Bank.

Irwin Cotler and Mark Kirk: Sounding the Alarm on Iran’s Human Rights Violations— Canadian parliamentarians and their American counterparts have been sounding the alarm on domestic repression and the Iranian nuclear and terrorist threat to international peace and security. We are witness to state-sanctioned assaults that are tantamount to crimes against humanity. The regime has only been ramping up its crackdown on dissent in advance of the presidential election. The government of Iran sponsors terrorism, seeks nuclear weapons, spews hateful rhetoric, and tramples the human rights of its own people.

Barry Rubin: How To Understand Islamism: Read What Its Leaders Actually Say—To read Yusuf al-Qaradawi’s 1984 book Islamic Education and Hasan al-Bana is to get an Islamic education. Nobody should be allowed to talk about Islam or political Islamism without having read this or similar texts. Just as Marx claimed in the Communist Manifesto of his movement, the Islamists, too, disdain to conceal their aims. It’s easy to see why al-Qaradawi is the leading Sunni Islamist thinker in the world today. He knows how to express his ideas clearly and persuasively.

Jennifer Rubin: Summer Plans—While you are probably nailing down summer camps or family trips, there is another view of how kids should spend their time. The Jewish News Service reports: “The Palestinian terrorist organization Islamic Jihad held a summer camp in order to groom what a spokesman called a ‘strong resisting generation’ of Palestinians to fight Israel.” On the day that those jihadi camps are shut down, the incitement stops and the missiles from Gaza stop, there will be peace. Not before.

Michael Curtis: Israel and the Golan Heights— On June 11, 2013 Austria began withdrawing some of its 377-member contingent of the five-country United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) from the demilitarized zone on the cease-fire line between Israel and Syria in the Golan Heights. The withdrawal was occasioned by the injury of two of the contingent caused by rebels who were fighting against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and briefly captured the town of Quneitra, the major crossing point between Syria and Israel in the zone. Austria felt the risk to its other soldiers was too great since the civil war had made the Golan a target area for both Assad’s forces and the rebels.

Saskia Pantell: Twilight for the Jews of Sweden?— On Sunday June, 2, 2013 several pro-Israel rallies, parades and other events took place around the world. But the celebration in Stockholm, Sweden organized by the Zionist Federation of Sweden (ZF), The World Zionist Organization of Israel (WZO), and local activists took a different turn with a specific message: “Enough is enough.” Not only did this demonstration show support for Israel, it also was a stand against anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism which are rampant in modern day Sweden.

Jonathan Spyer: Behind the Lines: A cross-border sectarian war—The latest developments in Iraq confirm the extent to which the Syrian civil war has broken its banks. Nearly 2,000 people have been killed in sectarian violence in Iraq since April. Many of the fatalities are the result of bombings carried out by the Islamic State of Iraq organization – the Iraqi franchise of al-Qaida.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
