Terence P. Jeffrey: MLK 50 Years Ago: ‘A Just Law Is a Man-Made Code That Squares With the Moral Law or the Law of God’—Fifty years ago, on Good Friday 1963, the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., leader of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, was arrested in Birmingham, Ala., for participating in a march against local segregation laws in violation of a state court order prohibiting civil rights activists from staging peaceful protests in that city. While incarcerated, King wrote an open letter to a group of clergymen who had objected to his march.

4--Scripture of the Day

Daniel 4: 14-18

“He shouted out and spoke as follows: ‘Chop down the tree and cut off its branches, strip off its foliage and scatter its fruit; let the beasts flee from under it and the birds from its branches.  Yet leave the stump with its roots in the ground, but with a band of iron and bronze around it in the new grass of the field; and let him be drenched with the dew of heaven, and let him share with the beasts in the grass of the earth.  Let his mind be changed from that of a man and let a beast’s mind be given to him, and let seven periods of time pass over him. This sentence is by the decree of the angelic watchers and the decision is a command of the holy ones, in order that the living may know that the Most High is ruler over the realm of mankind, and bestows it on whom He wishes and sets over it the lowliest of men.’ This is the dream which I, King Nebuchadnezzar, have seen. Now you, Belteshazzar, tell me its interpretation, inasmuch as none of the wise men of my kingdom is able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able, for a spirit of the holy gods is in you.”

5--HNIY Print form

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important.  It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.  It’s also available for free in PDF format.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

13--Perspectives

#####

Ruthie Blum: Through a lens darkly— Israeli left-wing radicals are fools for thinking their ideology makes them any less Jewish in the eyes of the enemy.

Boaz Bismuth: Syria’s divided opposition— Given the state of the Syrian opposition and the international community, it is not surprising Assad is still in power.

Gonen Ginat: Let’s talk Turkey— Every word of Israel’s apology to Turkey was carefully debated, but Erdogan’s anti-Semitism will continue to burst forth.

Dr. Reuven Berko: The sheikh and the sulha— Israel and Turkey never had the kind of baggage that justifies the hatred and troubled relationship that usually characterize regional feuds.

Dan Margalit: To initiate, or hold off?— When Israel takes the initiative, greater concessions are often demanded of it and Israel is forced to capitulate.

Dore Gold: What would Kissinger do?— Could Henry Kissinger’s insight into regional stability provide clues as to the necessary conditions for successful Middle East diplomacy today?

Herb Keinon: In the Wake of Israel’s Apology to Turkey—As Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan claims that Israel’s apology in the Marmara incident now makes Turkey a major player in the diplomatic process with the Palestinians, Amos Gilad, head of the Israel Defense Ministry’s diplomatic security bureau, told Israel Radio that it was important to distinguish between the “foam and the wave.” He said that there had been a clear agreement between Israel and Turkey, and that the focus should be on the agreement, not on Turkish comments about it. Ankara’s acquiescence to stop legal proceedings against IDF soldiers was at the “heart” of the agreement, he said.

Jerrold L. Sobel: Peacemaker or Trojan Horse?—Obama really made a big impression in Israel. But that’s what he’s good at. Results? Not so much.

Raymond Ibrahim: The Threat of Islamic Betrayal—Assassination attempt in Turkey exposes Islamist deceit and hate.

Khaled Abu Toameh: PA: We Don’t Want Turkish Prime Minister to Visit Gaza—The Palestinian Authority opposes Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan’s intention to visit Gaza, a senior PA official in Ramallah said Wednesday. “The Palestinian Authority leadership has informed the Turkish government that we are opposed to such a visit,” he said. “Gaza is not an independent Palestinian state and Hamas is not the legitimate representative of the Palestinians.” The PA fears that such visits would legitimize Hamas rule in Gaza and affect the PLO’s claim to be the sole, legitimate representative of the Palestinians.

Yoaz Hendel: Turkey’s Erdogan: Remember Who We’re Dealing With—Erdogan’s Turkey is a regional rival of Israel, not an ally. The strategic romance ended, and it has nothing to do with the Marmara incident. As early as 2004 Prime Minister Erdogan called Israel a terror state.

Soeren Kern: European Jihadists: The Latest Export—More than 1,000 Muslims from across Europe are currently active as Islamic jihadists, or holy warriors, in Syria, which has replaced Afghanistan, Pakistan and Somalia as the main destination for militant Islamists seeking to obtain immediate combat experience.

Aaron Klein: Did Hillary commit perjury?— Did former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton commit perjury when she claimed in a Senate hearing that she did not know whether the U.S. mission in Libya was procuring or transferring weapons to Turkey and other Arab countries? The goal of the alleged weapons shipments was to arm the rebels fighting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Peter C. Glover and Michael J. Economides: Russia’s New Middle East Energy Game—Moscow is quietly buying long-term into the Israeli-Cypriot gas and oil energy bonanza. This represents an effective selling out of Russia’s backing for both Iran and Syria. Only too aware of the threat of east Mediterranean supply if Europe is able to diversify away from Russian gas dependency, Moscow has been steadily feting Israel to buy into a piece of the action.

Stephanie Hanes: Human trafficking: A misunderstood global scourge— Sex trafficking has become an American cause celebre. But does it divert attention from the broader human trafficking issue of modern-day slavery?

Fred Weir: Harassment campaign for Russian civil society?— Russian authorities have raided hundreds of nongovernmental organizations around the country this week, seizing documents and interrogating staff. Many activists say the goal of the searches, beyond harassment, is to force them to comply with a new law ordering NGOs that receive international funding to self-identify as “foreign agents” — a term they feel makes them sound like spies — or be shut down.

Petra Marquardt-Bigman: Stephen Walt and the Islamist Lobby— When John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt published their book “The Israel Lobby” in 2007, the respected American scholar Walter Russell Mead argued in a very critical review that this “may be a book that anti-Semites will love, but it is not necessarily an anti-Semitic book.” Mead also noted that the book was “written in haste” and predicted that it would “be repented at leisure.”

Adam Levick: Imagine a Land Where Even One Jew is One Jew Too Many— There will be no Passover Seder in Libya this year. This is so because, despite a long and proud history, today in Libya there are no Jews.

Steve McCann: Our Culture: Whose Fault Is It?—It is fascinating to listen to or watch the Republican Establishment and much of the punditry on the right wonder, with amazement, why the nation’s attitude has dramatically shifted regarding acceptance of the concept of gay marriage.  It is as if a bolt of lightning suddenly burst out of the blue and struck the people causing all to become mesmerized with the efficacy of same-sex marriage.

Arnold Ahlert: The Obamas’ Unending Summer Vacation—Four lavish vacations in three months — while Americans suffer.

Thomas Lifson: Facing facts on Islam— In the face of the powers that be in government, education, and the media, Pamela Geller and her collaborators toil away to present a more realistic picture of the implacable Islamic religious war underway against the West for over a millennium. Their latest campaign undertaken by The American Freedom Defense Initiative is once again using transit ads in New York.

Jamie Glazov: Bullies: How The Left’s Culture of Fear and Intimidation Silences America—Ben Shapiro’s new book documents progressives’ penchant for demonizing their opponents — and their disdain for honest debate.

Jonathon Moseley: Legislating from the Bench on Gay Marriage—Only a lawyer willing to ‘tell’ on his profession can reveal how disturbing was the High Court’s oral argument in Hollingsworth v. Perry.

Matthew Vadum: From Their Cold Dead Hands—Obama’s gun-grabbing plans appear headed for defeat.

Jack Curtis: Bread and Circuses: The Last Days of the American Empire—Today’s Roman Empire, using military and economic force to govern others while increasingly unable to govern itself.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
