4--Scripture of the Day

Daniel 2: 12-13

Because of this the king became indignant and very furious and gave orders to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. So the decree went forth that the wise men should be slain; and they looked for Daniel and his friends to kill them.

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important.  It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.  It’s also available for free in PDF format.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

13--Perspectives

#####

Boaz Bismuth: Waiting for Obama in the shadow of Iran— To more effectively apply pressure and nudge Israel diplomatically, Obama will have to capture the hearts and minds of its citizenry.

Mati Tuchfeld: It starts and ends with jobs— Despite lofty campaign promises, everything in Israeli politics boils down to who gets which ministerial portfolio.

Dan Margalit: It’s elementary— Equality in sharing the military burden is not enough. Haredim need to study math and English to break out of their economic inferiority.

Gonen Ginat: Who do you think you are?— The haredim say the nation will suffer an irreparable tear if they aren’t included in the coalition. Excuse me?

Ruthie Blum: Chávez’s chums bid him ‘adios’— Chávez’s death could not have come soon enough for those of us who believe in the values of the free world.

Herb Keinon: ‘Israeli frustration with EU’s pro-Palestinian tilt rising’— Official says “no positive agenda between Israel and Brussels, only negative”; cites pushing of labels for settlement products.

Jonathan S. Tobin: Are Christians Guilty Until Proven Innocent?—Anti-gay violence is despicable and those who encourage it are to be deplored. The murder of an openly gay candidate for mayor in a Mississippi town has provoked some discussion about the source of such violence. That is a topic that deserves serious discussion. But there is a difference between sober soul-searching about instances of violence in our society and jumping to conclusions whose only possible purpose is to provoke a different sort of prejudice.

Bruce Thornton: American Foreign Policy and the Tyranny of Old Ideas—What cataclysm must befall us before we stop repeating the same mistakes?

Frank Crimi: The Kidnapping of Coptic Girls—Christian women and girls continue to be abducted on a near daily basis and forced to convert to Islam.

Akiva Eldar: The Myth of the Missed Opportunity in Israeli-Arab Peace—Prof. Elie Podeh of the Department of Islam and Middle Eastern Studies at the Hebrew University contends that historians tend to use the term “missed opportunity” in the context of diplomatic contacts between Israel, the Arab states and the Palestinians, despite the fact that to begin with there was no real chance of their success.

Barry Rubin: Who Is the ‘Imperialist Tool’ in the Middle East?— Let’s examine claims from the radical academia currently hegemonic in North America and Europe. What is fascinating is that a well-informed observer can easily demolish such claims. That’s precisely why such people are not being trained today and those who do exist must be discredited or ignored to keep students (and the general public) relatively ignorant.

Evelyn Gordon: Waging an “Anti-Segregation” Crusade on the Palestinians’ Backs—Here are some of the headlines that appeared in papers worldwide earlier this week: “Israel introduces ‘Palestinians only’ bus lines, following complaints from Jewish settlers”; “Israeli buses for Palestinians spark accusations of segregation”; “‘A Palestinian Rosa Parks is needed’: Israel’s segregated buses spark outrage.” And here’s the headline that didn’t appear: “Palestinians thrilled: Finally, decent bus service for those who work in Israel!” That missing headline speaks volumes about the superficiality of global reporting on Israel–and also reveals, once again, how the Palestinians’ self-proclaimed champions often wind up making their lives worse.

Roi Kais: Muslim Brotherhood: “No Weapons for Hamas via Smuggling Tunnels”—Issam al-Haddad, a senior Muslim Brotherhood official who serves as Egyptian President Morsi’s adviser on foreign affairs, said that Egypt will not permit the flow of weapons to Gaza via the smuggling tunnels since that will undermine stability in the Sinai Peninsula.

Barry Rubin: What John Kerry Doesn’t Know About Democracy and Also About Islam— In practically his first outing as secretary of state abroad, John Kerry made some remarkable statements in a meeting with young Germans. The main thing being widely quoted is this:
“In America, you have a right to be stupid if you want to be,” he said. “And we tolerate it. We somehow make it through that. Now, I think that’s a virtue. I think that’s something worth fighting for.”

Charles Krauthammer: Why We Give Foreign Aid—His [Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi] partisans have attacked demonstrators in Cairo. His security forces killed more than 40 in Port Said. He’s been harassing journalists, suppressing freedom of speech, infiltrating the military, and trying to subjugate the courts. He’s already rammed through an Islamist constitution. He is now trying to tilt, even rig, parliamentary elections to the point that the opposition called for a boycott and an administrative court has just declared a suspension of the vote. Any foreign aid we give Egypt should be contingent upon a reversal of this repression and a granting of space to secular, democratic, pro-Western elements.

Daniel Greenfield: How Obama Turned America into Venezuela—Chavez and Obama’s leftist politics of economic destruction.

Mona Charen: Chavismo and Us—Hugo Chavez clawed his way to total power the way other demagogues and thugs — from Lenin to Peron to Castro to Correa — have done, by promising to redistribute the nation’s wealth (Lenin and Castro also used guns). Like them, Chavez maintained power by crippling the democratic institutions of his nation.

Barry Rubin: Why, As President, Obama is a Disaster and Why, As a Country, Israel Should Applaud Obama— On the eve of President Obama’s first visit to Israel as chief executive, I have just returned from briefing a high-ranking official of country x about the Middle East. We kept coming back to a vital theme: the incredibly shrinking power of the United States. Try to explain American behavior to neutral, open-minded third parties for whom U.S. policy activities have become just plain bizarre!

Jonathan S. Tobin: Iran’s North Korean Example—The United Nations responded today to North Korea’s threats to launch pre-emptive nuclear strikes on both the United States and South Korea with a new round of even harsher sanctions on Pyongyang. But it is not likely that these latest measures will have much impact on an already isolated communist regime that has no compunction about starving or imprisoning as many of its own people as it deems necessary. Their nuclear threats may turn out to be empty bluster, but whether they intend to further destabilize the region or not there is little the U.S. or the U.N. can do about it.

Ann-Marie Murrell: The Left’s Dance With Terror—Why Sean Penn and Oliver Stone wept when Hugo Chavez died.

Daren Jonescu: Armored Vehicles for DHS, Slingshots for You—What rational reason is there for the Department of Homeland Security to purchase more armored vehicles than exist in the German army?

Zvi Magen: Are the US and Russia Reaching Understandings about Syria?— A series of high level meetings in recent weeks perhaps bespeaks an intention by Russia and the United States to achieve understandings concerning the future of the Syrian regime. While there is no certainty that the parties have already reached final understandings, it appears that the rhetorical tones and the actions on the ground (such as the new decisions by the United States concerning controlled aid to the Syrian opposition, possibly in coordination with Russia) reflect changes in their approach. If Russia and the United States are willing to combine their efforts to forge a way out of the imbroglio, this would be a considerable achievement for Russia, which has succeeded in taking advantage of the Syrian crisis while playing a complex game in the region.

Burak Bekdil: Is Erdogan Out of Step with Turkish Public Opinion?—At a UN event devoted to dialogue between the West and Islam, Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan said, “Islamophobia ought to be considered a crime against humanity just like Zionism, anti-Semitism and fascism.” World leaders were “shocked.” I am shocked at their being shocked.

Bridget Johnson: Paul Injects Life into Party with Nearly 13-Hour Filibuster—Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) busted the filibuster record set by Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) as he demanded answers from the Obama administration on policy regarding domestic drone strikes. The “filiblizzard” of the Brennan nomination over Obama’s secretive drone program, joined by one Dem, outlasted the snowstorm that paralyzed D.C.

Arnold Ahlert: Rand Paul Fights for Conservative Principles — And Wins—Senator’s brave filibuster wins public opinion and forces Obama into a corner.

Victor Davis Hanson: Beautifully Medieval California—A medieval society can be defined in a variety of ways. In terms of class, there is more a pyramidal culture. A vast peasantry sits below an elite of clergy and lords above — but with little or no independent middle class in-between. I think California is getting there quickly — with the U.S. soon to follow.

Jaime Daremblum: The Death of a Despot—If the Chávez revolution had one positive impact, it was to convince other Latin American nations that autocratic populism was a dead end. Of course, that is small comfort for Venezuelans, who will be cleaning up the wreckage of Hurricane Hugo for many years to come.

John Hawkins: How Modern Life Transforms Men into Wussies—We’re in a world where women, masculinity, and relationships have gone through a revolutionary change, but in many ways, men haven’t caught up.

Jack Kerwick: Inside the Iron Tower: The Life of Conservatives in Academia—Diagnosing the creed oppressing free thought on campuses.

Roger L. Simon: Obama and One-Party Rule— Is Barack Obama’s goal the creation of a one-party system? They’re certainly popular these days. The Chinese are doing pretty well with one. And Barack seems to be a one-party kind of guy. He prefers like-minded folks like Turkey’s Erdogan.

Seth Mandel: Kerry’s “Courage” Award Debacle—Yesterday, Samuel Tadros reported in the Weekly Standard that John Kerry was handling his transition to running the State Department about as adroitly as one would imagine. He had an idea, and Foggy Bottom sent out a press release excitedly announcing that First Lady Michelle Obama was going to enthusiastically partake in this idea. The State Department would confer Women of Courage awards on several worthy recipients. Unfortunately, one of them happened to have a bad habit, apparently, of proclaiming viciously anti-Semitic hate speech on Twitter and was pretty happy, according to her timeline, about the September 11 terror attacks. Tadros wrote: On July 18 of last year, after five Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian bus driver were killed a suicide bombing attack, Ibrahim jubilantly tweeted: “An explosion on a bus carrying Israelis in Burgas airport in Bulgaria on the Black Sea. Today is a very sweet day with a lot of very sweet news.”

Mark Tapson: Brainwashing Kids About Guns: the Sequel—Progressives go to astounding lengths to teach children that even owning a gun is insane.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
