Amir Taheri: Iran, Russia Building “Strategic Partnership”—‘A strategic partnership”: So Iran and Russia describe the series of security, economic and cultural agreements they’ve signed together in the past few weeks. Iran’s Foreign Minister Ai-Akbar Salehi arrived in Moscow this week to co-chair the first annual session of the “partnership” with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. Days earlier, a group of officers from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard arrived in the Russian capital for a crash course in crowd control and civil unrest. They’re expected to return to Iran by May and be “operational” in time for the June presidential election.

4--Scripture of the Day

Ezekiel 47: 3-5

When the man went out toward the east with a line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he led me through the water, water reaching the ankles. Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the knees. Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the loins. Again he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not ford, for the water had risen, enough water to swim in, a river that could not be forded.

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important.  It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.

  • God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
  • “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
  • “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.  In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)
  • Yeshua said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” (John 8: 58)

13--Perspectives

#####

Caroline Glick: US government funding radical Israeli NGOs’ information operations—Earlier this month NGO Monitor released its report on foreign government funding of radical political Israeli NGOs which work to undermine Israel’s international standing and subvert Israeli society. Along with the usual European suspects who give millions of shekels (or Euros or pounds) to Israeli groups like this, it works out that the US government is also funding extremely radical organizations, courtesy of American taxpayers. Notably, the three groups that reported receiving funding from the US are all in the business of waging political warfare campaigns directed at the Israeli public.

Dan Margalit: A justified blackout, a just war, a PR failure— The Middle East is currently in a life-and-death battle, with casualties on both sides. Ben Zygier was one such casualty.

Boaz Bismuth: Self-inflicted damage—Israel can’t go very long without a new media storm. ABC Australia provided it this week with a thriller.

Dore Gold: Israel’s challenging diplomatic predicament— The stakes for Israel in not taking into account the impact of the changing terrorist threat on its need to maintain defensible borders could be disastrous.

Dror Eydar: We took the shame too far— Prof. Oz Almog is convinced that Israeli society is not growing more extreme, and that the entire Israeli public would unite in support of a logical agreement.  He believes the Left’s desire to remedy the world’s ills has turned them into monsters.

Ruthie Blum: Nuclear holocaust denial— Obama is putty in the hands of those who would see America annihilated along with Israel.

Alan Baker: Is Jerusalem Really Negotiable? Jerusalem’s Place in the Peace Process—On August 21, 2012, PA leader Mahmoud Abbas, referring to “the alleged [Jewish] Temple” in Jerusalem, stated that “there will be no peace, security, or stability unless the occupation, its settlements and settlers will be evacuated from our holy city and the eternal capital of our state.” This statement basically denies any Jewish linkage or right to Jerusalem. It was uttered by the head of the Palestinian Authority who is considered in the international community to be moderate.

Yiftah Shapir: Syrian Weapons in Hizbollah Hands— According to foreign sources, about two weeks ago, Israel attacked targets in Syrian territory. Assuming that a convoy of SA-17 anti-aircraft missiles en route from Syria to Lebanon was in fact attacked by Israel, as was reported by foreign sources, several questions arise.

Yaakov Lappin: Making Sense of the Air Strike in Syria— On January 30, just before dawn, according to international media reports, the Israel Air Force struck a target (or targets) in Syria. While many details of this attack remain shrouded in mystery, since then a number of facts have come into focus. The strike followed months of warnings from Jerusalem that Israel would not tolerate the proliferation of strategic arms, or unconventional weapons, from the crumbling Syrian state to Hezbollah.

Jonathan S. Tobin: When Will the Palestinians Return to Negotiations?—Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu reaffirmed Monday what he said in 2009 at Bar-Ilan University where he formally embraced the concept of two states for two peoples. Since then he has constantly asked PA head Abbas to come back to the negotiating table that he fled in 2008 when then-Prime Minister Olmert offered him an independent state including nearly all of the West Bank, Gaza and Jerusalem. But despite repeated Israeli offers of a state, the Palestinians continue to refuse to talk.

Raheem Kassam: Is Israel Really to Blame for Gaza’s Water Shortages?—A motion was tabled in the British Parliament stating that “Israeli occupation policies” are to blame for the shortage of water in Gaza, though Israel withdrew from the territory in 2005. Hamas is the authority responsible for infrastructure. Yet the aid it receives from international donors goes primarily into funding its terrorist activities.

HonestReporting: 3 Thoughts on “Prisoner X”— It’s not surprising that the story of “Prisoner X” has captured the attention of the world’s media. Here are a couple of thoughts on what we’ve seen so far.

Alastair Beach: Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh Boom Threatened by Morsi Assault on Foreign Ownership—40 years ago Sharm el-Sheikh was a sleepy fishing village with a handful of guesthouses erected by the Israelis after the Six-Day War. Today its 100-plus hotels can accommodate 200,000 visitors a week at this glittering resort of palm trees and pools at the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba.

Raymond Ibrahim: The ‘Epidemic’ of Sexual Harassment—and Rape—in Egypt—Since the “Arab Spring” came to Egypt and the Muslim Brotherhood assumed power, sexual harassment, abuse, and rape of women has skyrocketed.  This graph, which shows an enormous jump in sexual harassment beginning around January 2011, when the Tahrir revolts began, certainly demonstrates as much. Its findings are supported by any number of reports appearing in both Arabic and Western media, and from both Egyptian and foreign women.

Mark D. Tooley: Anti-Israel Evangelical Left Perpetuates Palestinian Suffering—What the Middle East would look like if the Religious Left got its way.

Walter Russell Mead: As America’s Credibility Wanes, Iran Upgrades Its Nuclear Capacity— The Ayatollahs have come to the conclusion that the U.S. president will not use military force as Iran presses forward with its nuclear plans.

Ed Lasky: Have Obama’s policies led to an Iranian nuclear bomb?— The Washington Post reports that Iran has ordered banned magnets from a Chinese company that would result in its nuclear program expanding by five-fold and sharply compress Israel’s timeline for dealing with Iran.

Rachel Marder: Not as Simple as ABCs: Sesame Street Execs on the Middle East— Elmo, Sivan, Mahboub and Avigail are happily enjoying a picnic on “Rehov Sumsum,” Israel’s Sesame Street, when a dispute over whether it’s better to drink their juice with or without straws arises.

Raymond Ibrahim: Saudi Hypocrisy At Its Best— Few things offer surreal experiences as when Islam and the West interact—when 7th century primordialism encounters 21st century relativism.  Consider the issue of “interfaith dialogue.” In principle, it is a decent thing: Christians, Jews, Muslims, and others trying to reach a common ground and professing mutual respect. But what does one make of the gross contradictions that emerge when a human-rights violating nation calls for “dialogue,” even as it enforces religious intolerance on its own turf?

Daniel Greenfield: What the Left Does Not Understand About Islam—The left has never adapted to the transition from nationalistic wars to ideological wars. It took the left a while to grasp that the Nazis were a fundamentally different foe than the Kaiser and that pretending that World War 2 was another war for the benefit of colonialists and arms dealers was the behavior of deluded lunatics. And yet much of the left insisted on approaching the war in just that fashion, and had Hitler not attacked Stalin, it might have remained stuck there. The Cold War was even worse.

David Bedein: How the U.S. Aids Hamas Through the Palestinian Authority—Your tax dollars at work.

Caroline Glick: Ladies and Gentlemen, Presenting the next Director of the CIA!!!— I know, I know, you probably all are wondering whether he’s a Muslim. For my part, I still can’t get my arms around the idea that a bum who hitch hiked around Indonesia with long hair and an earring is going to be the CIA Director.

Howard Nemerov: State of the Second Amendment—It’s clear from President Obama’s State of the Union address that gun control is a major goal for his second term. But where’s the epidemic “gun violence” problem that gun control is supposed to address?

Stephen Kruiser: Pelosi Gets More Procedurally Sneaky with Gun Control than Immigration Reform—Theory: as long as they’re nipping away at gun-control legislation, they can keep saying that people who think the government will eventually want a total gun grab are crazy. The backlash would be too overwhelming for them to go all-in for a wholesale gutting of the Second Amendment at the moment.

Jim O’Sullivan: EPA Corruption and Scandal—The EPA’s sleaziness, its disregard for transparency, its fraudulent estimation of costs/benefits, and now its attempt to defy and evade a Federal Court order (and by extension FOIA, mail and wire fraud laws) combines both inbred corruption and serious scandal.

David Solway: Saving the Neighborhood—Why the expansion of Islamic no-go zones must be stopped.

Reut Cohen: Pushing ‘Palestine’ at UCLA—Campus opens its doors to an Israel hate-fest.

Victor Davis Hanson: American Decline—Why do once-successful societies ossify and decline? Hundreds of reasons have been adduced for the fall of Rome and the end of the Old Regime in 18th-century France. Reasons run from inflation and excessive spending to resource depletion and enemy invasion, when historians attempt to understand the sudden collapse of the Mycenaeans, the Aztecs, and, apparently, the modern Greeks. In literature from Catullus to Edward Gibbon, wealth and leisure — and who gets the most of both — more often than poverty and exhaustion, cause civilization to implode.

David Spady: America’s Dreadful Debt Legacy—Americans live in a consumer culture. We like to buy things. When we can’t afford to purchase something we really want, we turn to credit cards and loans, even though we end up paying more due to interest payments. Over half the population paid interest on credit cards in the past year. “Buy now – pay later”.

14--Blessings from Revelation

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now.  There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone.  Click here to order the eBook.  Click here to order the paperback.
