Tradition Can Hinder Progress
Christian tradition is undeniably strong despite the fact that many of our traditions aren’t sanctioned by God. We humans have a habit of making things up which become traditions, and many times we allow those traditions to take precedence over the Word of God. This isn’t just wrong; it is dangerous. Jesus said, “Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men…. You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition.” (Mark 7: 8-9) He also said, “…you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition.” (Matthew 15: 6)
When we allow church tradition to take precedence over God’s specific commands, it makes Him very angry:
- “I hate, I reject your festivals, nor do I delight in your solemn assemblies. Even though you offer up to Me burnt offerings and your grain offerings, I will not accept them; and I will not even look at the peace offerings of your fatlings. Take away from Me the noise of your songs; I will not even listen to the sound of your harps. But let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.” Amos 5: 21-24 (from The New Jerusalem Bible)
- “Because this people draw near with their words and honor Me with their lip service, but they remove their hearts far from Me, and their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote, therefore behold, I will once again deal marvelously with this people, wondrously marvelous; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be concealed.” Isaiah 29: 13-14 (from The New Jerusalem Bible)
God was irate because people’s hearts were not right. They honored Him with their “lip service” and with their “traditions.” You could say that they were just going through the motions.
God wants more. He wants our hearts, and our tithes and traditions are unacceptable substitutes. God said that He rejects them when they interfere with the fulfillment of His objectives, so don’t try to excuse the inexcusable.

Jeremiah 50: 32-35
“The arrogant one will stumble and fall with no one to raise him up; and I will set fire to his cities and it will devour all his environs.” Thus says Yahweh Sabaoth, “The sons of Israel are oppressed, and the sons of Judah as well; and all who took them captive have held them fast, they have refused to let them go. Their Redeemer is strong, Yahweh Sabaoth is His name; He will vigorously plead their case so that He may bring rest to the earth, but turmoil to the inhabitants of Babylon. A sword against the Chaldeans,” declares Yahweh, “and against the inhabitants of Babylon and against her officials and her wise men!”

His Name is Yahweh explains why the Name of God, Yahweh, is so important. It’s available in eBook format and in paperback.
- God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘Yahweh, the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This [Yahweh] is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3: 15)
- “Therefore behold, I am going to make them know—this time I will make them know My power and My might; and they shall know that My name is Yahweh.” (Jeremiah 16: 21)
- “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch; and He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land. In His days Judah will be saved, and Israel will dwell securely; and this is His name by which He will be called, ‘Yahweh our righteousness.’” (Jeremiah 23: 5-6)

Stand! is a suspense novel that exposes the lies, corruption, and greed underlying the theory that man-made CO2 emissions are responsible for global warming. Professor Wes Carlyle and Karen Sterling, his research collaborator, carefully scan the audience for their would-be attacker—a member of the enviro-gestapo who has been following them for days. Wes spots his man in the back of the room leaning against the wall. Suddenly, another man in the audience steps forward and moves toward Karen at a menacing pace. With a vicious stroke, he swings a billy club at her head. Click here to order the eBook. Click here to order the paperback.

Blessings in the Book of Revelation is a book that you need to read, especially now. There are blessings throughout the Scriptures but Revelation is the only book in the Bible actually containing a specific blessing for reading it. It’s repeated twice, once at the beginning and again at the end. This is the reason that I believe Revelation should be the first step toward studying biblical prophecy. Though not easy to do, Revelation can be broken down and understood by anyone, not just the academic elite. So, Revelation’s blessings are for everyone. Click here to order the eBook.
