Are You Ready to Embrace Yahweh’s Clear Instructions?—an Excerpt from His Name is Yahweh

Misguided tradition concealed Yahweh’s Name from us for centuries, but it was right in front of us all the time shrouded by titles that Yahweh never intended as substitutes for His Name. God’s Word makes it clear that we are supposed to know His Name, to call Him by His Name, and to tell others about Him by Name.

The Scriptures make it clear that Yahweh condemns anything that contradicts His Word. Therefore, not using God’s Name is one tradition we should abandon—and the sooner the better. I’ll go even farther. Since the Bible says repeatedly that “everyone who calls on the Name of Yahweh will be saved” (Joel 2: 32, Acts 2: 21, and Romans 10: 13) and that “there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved,” (Acts 4: 12) ignoring this message is foolish and dangerous.

Other Names for Yahweh

Below, I have listed several Names for Yahweh and their meanings. Each Name reveals an attribute of His character. For example, He is Elohim (God), Adonai (Lord), and El Shaddai (God Almighty). But His Name is Yahweh. Further, Yahweh will share the title “god” with anything—even a piece of wood or a rock. He will share the title “lord” with anyone. Some of the most evil people in the history of the world were called “lord.” But Yahweh will not share His Divine Name with anyone. In due course, the importance of distinguishing between Yahweh and any so-called “god” will become obvious to everyone. There is One Elohim, and His Name is Yahweh.

Several Names for Yahweh and Their Meanings

Elohim—Strong One. It is used when referring to Yahweh or to a pagan god. When it refers to Yahweh, it is translated as “God,” and when it refers to a pagan god it is translated as “god.” Elohim is a plural word that suggests majesty.
Adonai—Lord or Master of all. It is used when referring to Yahweh or to men. When it refers to Yahweh, it is translated as “Lord,” and when it refers to men it is translated as “lord.” Adonai suggests a master-servant relationship.
El Gibbor—Mighty God. A powerful Warrior God who protects and defends His people.
El Elyon—God Most High or strongest Strong One.
El Roi—the Strong One who sees.
El Shaddai—Almighty God. It means sufficient or enough and refers to God as the One who sets constraints or limits in the universe.
El Olam—Everlasting God.
Yahweh Yireh—Yahweh will provide.
Yahweh Nissi—Yahweh our Banner.
Yahweh Shalom—Yahweh our Peace.
Yahweh Sabaoth—This Name is translated in most Bibles as “LORD of hosts,” and it refers to Yahweh as the Leader of a great army. The Tanach interprets this Name as “HASHEM Master of Legions.”
Yahweh Maccaddeshcem—Yahweh our Sanctifier.
Yahweh Raah—Yahweh our Shepherd.
Yahweh Tsidkenu—Yahweh our Righteousness.
Yahweh El Gmolah—Yahweh God of Recompense or Yahweh our Reward.
Yahweh Shammah—Yahweh who is present.
Yahweh Raphah—Yahweh our Healer. A literal translation of this Name is Yahweh our doctor.
