Shalu shalom Yerushalayim: Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. (Psalm 122: 6)

Scripture of the day:
Isaiah 34: 14-15—“The desert creatures will meet with the wolves, the hairy goat also will cry to its kind; yes, the night monster will settle there and will find herself a resting place. The tree snake will make its nest and lay eggs there, and it will hatch and gather them under its protection. Yes, the hawks will be gathered there, every one with its kind.”

SnyderTalk Commentary: This is the first paragraph in the article above—“Tell me who initiates the meeting and who wants a photo opportunity, and I’ll tell you who has the inferior position. The upcoming meeting between Israel’s prime minister and the US president was initiated by Obama, who is concerned about the outcome of the November election and his declining support by Democrats and Independents. He hopes that a jovial photograph with Netanyahu would obscure severe disagreements, while enhancing his image among Israel’s friends in the US. He presumes that Netanyahu will not leverage his (Obama’s) political predicament and the significant support for Israel among constituents and legislators, and will once again commit Israel to concessions.”
Some of you may think that the author is just another cynical journalist. If you do, take a look at these articles from SnyderTalk posts in March 2010:
- Israel exerts sovereign right to its capital as Biden looks on astounded
- Clinton slams Israel on housing announcement
- Top Obama aide: East Jerusalem construction an “insult”
- How Many Lives Is Biden’s Pride Worth?
- What’s happening behind closed doors in the Obama-Netanyahu meetings? Netanyahu stood his ground.
You’ll recall that Jerusalem’s mayor had announced that planning for a housing project in “East Jerusalem” would continue while Vice President Biden was in Tel Aviv, and the fireworks began. Before the brouhaha was over, President Obama had demonstrated a style of leadership that has become a hallmark of his administration. He didn’t just disagree with the notion that Israel should be allowed to build housing for its citizens in its own capital; he lashed out at Israel’s PM, Benyamin Netanyahu, personally and ordered him to come to the White House to receive a verbal assault and a personal insult from Obama himself.
In March 2010, PM Netanyahu was Obama’s whipping boy. Our president was trying to curry favor with radical Islamists in the Middle East, and he thought he needed to slap Israel around a little publically to garner their admiration. The worm has turned. Obama’s insults and ultimatums didn’t earn him the respect he wanted from jihadists who openly call for Israel’s destruction and the indiscriminate murder of Jews, but it did start a downward spiral in his poll numbers among US voters who support Israel.
In July 2010, President Obama needs PM Netanyahu’s support to salvage his influence with members of the House and Senate—and quite likely his presidency. What will Netanyahu do? My guess is that his behavior will be more “presidential” than Obama’s. I think it boils down to upbringing.

SnyderTalk Commentary: Nablus is Shechem. It’s referred to in the Bible many times, and Joseph is buried there. Like other sites in Israel that are important to Jewish people, Arab Muslims have commandeered Shechem and given it another name. Make no mistake, they are mocking Yahweh and there is a judgment day coming for them. Unless they reverse course, they are in serious trouble, trouble from which they cannot escape.

SnyderTalk Commentary: I’ve told you this before. Turkey is a great country with intelligent and cultured people. PM Erdogan is an anomaly, but he is the prime minister, at least for the time being. I have great hope that the people of Turkey will deal with him in a fitting manner. As it is, he is doing his country great harm as he positions himself as the savior of radical Arab Muslims in their quest to destroy Israel. I don’t know Erdogan’s ancestry, but he behaves like a Palestinian. Is that what he intends? Probably. Is that what the people of Turkia expect from their prime minister? I don’t think so.
