I think President Obama, Rahm Emanuel, and David Axelrod are upset because the people at Fox News aren’t their lapdogs. I believe they regard Fox News as a serious threat to their success in ramming healthcare reform (Obama style) down our throats the way they shoved a spending boondoggle masquerading as a stimulus plan down the throats of members of the House and Senate. If the people at Fox would just bow and scrape and tow the Obama line, the attack dogs would probably let Fox out of the dog house. But then Fox would be like CNN—no audience and nothing worth watching.

Today’s Feature

This is an important point.  Yahweh will not honor our religious activity unless we are worshiping Him with all our heart and all our soul.  In fact, it offends Yahweh when we simply go through the motions and call it worship.  Yahweh wants our hearts and souls, and He knows if we give them to Him, our attitudes and actions will come into proper alignment with His will.

I used the word “obligation” in a previous SnyderTalk Today’s Feature, and that is exactly what I meant to say.  Yahweh made a promise.  If we seek Him with all our heart and all our soul, then He will reveal Himself to us.  In a literal sense, Yahweh is obligated to reveal Himself to us if we seek Him the way He directs, because He said He would, and Yahweh does not lie.  However, He does not do it out of duty or obligation, but out of love and a burning desire to have an intimate relationship with us.  Try Him and see for yourself.

SnyderTalk® Commentary

In yesterday’s SnyderTalk, I posted an article dealing with the White House staffs’ claims that Fox News isn’t even a news organization.  I pointed out how ridiculous that assertion is and how it makes the White House staffers look like a bunch of crybabies.

Today, I want to focus on 2 members of the White House staff who apparently are the designated attack dogs on the Fox News beat.  Before I begin, I want to make one thing clear.  No one from the White House appears on a Sunday morning news show just to run his/her mouth.  White House staffers are there for a specific reason, and they stay on message.  Their performances are planned and choreographed with great precision inside the White House.

Rahm Emanuel, President Obama’s White House chief of staff said, “It (Fox News) is not a news organization so much as it has a perspective.”  Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” David Axelrod, a senior White House adviser, told George Stephanopoulos, “And the bigger thing is that other news organizations, like yours, ought not to treat them (Fox News) that way, and we’re not going to treat them that way.”

Rahm Emanuel

Rahm Emanuel, White House Chief of Staff

Axelrod went on to say this about Rupert Murdoch (Chairman of News Corp, the company that owns Fox News): “Mr. Murdoch has a talent for making money, and I understand that their programming is geared toward making money.  The only argument Anita (Anita Dunn, White House communications director) was making is that they’re not really a news station….It’s not just their commentators, but a lot of their news programming.  It’s really not news.  It’s pushing a point of view.”

As you can see, we have two top White House staffers, two essentially identical messages, and both delivered on the same day.  Can there be any doubt about the choreography?  Nope, none at all.

David Axelrod

David Axelrod, White House Senior Adviser

Axelrod was right about one thing.  Nobody can deny Rupert Murdoch’s business acumen.  He has spent his life building a publishing juggernaut that has global reach.  But Emanuel and Axelrod are different—or so they imply.  They are above the fray, so to speak, a couple of high-minded public servants merely doing their best for God and country.  They wouldn’t contaminate themselves by trying to make a buck.  O, really?  Let’s find out who Emanuel and Axelrod really are.  What do the facts tell us?

Rahm Emanuel

Below are Emanuel’s career highlights:

  • Emanuel began his political career with Illinois Public Action, a public interest and consumer rights organization.  From there he went on to serve in several fundraising capacities with local, state, and national political campaigns.
  • In 1984, Emanuel worked on the senatorial election campaign for Paul Simon of Illinois.
  • In 1988, Emanuel became the national campaign director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
  • In 1989, Emanuel served as senior advisor and chief fundraiser for Richard M. Daley’s successful Chicago mayoral campaign.
  • Emanuel served as director of Bill Clinton’s campaign finance committee for his first presidential campaign.
  • From 1993-1998, Emanuel served as a senior advisor in the Clinton White House.
  • The night after the 1996 presidential election, Emanuel is reported to have stood up at a dinner celebration, listed by name people he saw as betrayers, and yelled “dead” after each name as he thrust a steak knife into the table.
  • Emanuel is given the ignominious credit for choreographing the handshake between Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat following the 1993 signing of the Oslo Peace Accord in the Rose Garden of the White House.
  • In 1998, Emanuel left the Clinton administration to become an investment banker with Wasserstein Perella (now Dresdner Kleinwort).  In 1999, he became the firm’s managing director in the Chicago office.  He made $16.2 million during his 2 and a half years as an investment banker.  Not bad for a man with no business experience, but lots of political connections.  That should help you to appreciate why Governor Rod Blagojevich was so angry with Emanuel for not standing by him while he was being ousted as Governor for playing by the same rules.  As it turns out, Blagojevich will probably never be able to cash in his chits, and Emanuel has only just begun.
  • In 2000, President Clinton named Emanuel to the board of directors of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac).  He was paid $320,000 plus later stock sales for his work on the board.  That amounted to attending 6 meetings a year since Emanuel was not assigned to any of the board’s working committees.
  • During Emanuel’s time on Freddie Mac’s board, the firm was plagued by a host of widely publicized scandals involving campaign contributions and accounting irregularities.  The Obama administration refuses to allow the release of minutes of the board meetings that Emanuel attended as a board member.
  • Emanuel resigned from Freddie Mac’s board in 2001 and ran for Congress.
  • From 2003 to 2009, Emanuel served as a member of the House of Representatives from Illinois’ fifth congressional district.  Emanuel won the seat vacated by Rod Blagojevich when he became Governor of Illinois.
  • Emanuel was chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee during the 2006 mid-term elections.  When the dems regained control of Congress in 2006, Emanuel was elected chairman of the Democratic Caucus.  Two days after Obama was elected president, Emanuel was named White House chief of staff.

Rahm Emanuel has no training in business or finance, yet he amassed a personal fortune as a “businessman” following his stint as an operative in the Clinton White House.  Were all of his dealings above board?  We may never know the answer to that question, but as far as I am concerned, the role he played on the Board of Directors of the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac) raises serious questions about his moral fiber, his integrity, and his ethics.  Any doubts I have could be removed very easily if the Obama White House would allow a review of Freddie Mac’s board minutes during Emanuel’s tenure as a board member.

Judging by his resume, I have no choice but to conclude that Rahm Emanuel leveraged on his political connections to rake in a personal fortune.  His primary strengths appear to be his callous disregard for others, his win at all costs mindset, his no holds barred philosophy, and his skill at capitalizing on his political network to raise campaign funds and to build up his own private net worth.

I’m not implying or suggesting anything illegal.  I’m simply raising legitimate questions.  I think the Obama administration should come clean on Rahm Emanuel.  If, as they say, he has nothing to hide, then let’s see the evidence.  Their failure to deliver it is very disconcerting.

David Axelrod

David Axelrod is a longtime close friend of Rahm Emanuel.  Below are his career highlights:

  • In 1977, Axelrod took a job with The Chicago Tribune as the City Hall Bureau Chief and a political columnist.
  • Along with his close friend Rahm Emanuel, Axelrod worked as communications director on Paul Simon’s 1984 Senate campaign.  Eventually, he became co-campaign manager.
  • In 1985, he started Axelrod and Associates, a political consulting firm.  He worked on a number of campaigns including Harold Washington’s race for Mayor of Chicago and Paul Simon’s 1988 bid for the dems nomination for president.
  • In 2004, Axelrod worked for John Edwards during his presidential bid.
  • In 2006, Axelrod worked on several successful campaigns including those of Eliot Spitzer for Governor of New York and Deval Patrick for Governor of Massachusetts.  In 2006, he also worked as a paid consultant for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chaired by Rahm Emanuel.  In 2006, the dems gained 31 House seats.
  • Axelrod first met Barack Obama in 1992.  Obama worked with Axelrod on his famous 2002 anti-war speech, and Obama asked Axelrod to read drafts of his book The Audacity of Hope.
  • Axelrod worked on Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign as chief strategist and media advisor.
  • Axelrod is given credit for crafting the plan used by the Obama campaign to involve large numbers of people in the electoral process.  His elaborate use of the Internet produced a list of roughly 475,000 people who donated less than $100 each to Obama’s campaign.
  • Axelrod is best known for his use of “astroturfing.  According to Wikipedia, “Astroturfing is an English-language euphemism referring to political, advertising, or public relations campaigns that are formally planned by an organization, but designed to mask its origins to create the impression of being spontaneous, popular “grassroots” behavior.  The term refers to AstroTurf, a brand of synthetic carpeting designed to look like natural grass.  A basic explanation is: if a grassroots movement grows upward from collective efforts, on a local level, of dedicated people donating their time and efforts to further a political or social cause they deem to be good for the many,…(it) is made to appear as though it is a real grassroots movement, but it is usually done to advance a cause for the benefit of specific individuals or group(s), and most often not at a local level.”

Unlike Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod really is a businessman.  His line of work is political consulting.  He’s good at it, and he’s made a fortune doing it.  He has worked personally with most of the presidential contenders in the Democrat Party.

It looks as though Emanuel and Axelrod have devoted their professional lives to exploiting the political process for personal gain.  Axelrod took the political consultancy route and Emanuel became a political functionary, elected official, and reaper of political favors.

The Conclusion

I started this SnyderTalk Commentary by pointing out that Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod are apparently the designated White House attack dogs where Fox News is concerned.  I’m familiar with Fox News, and I think it should be obvious to anyone who isn’t completely blinded by political bias that Fox News is a legitimate news organization.  To believe otherwise is patently absurd.

I also know about CNN.  Unlike CNN, Fox News actually has an audience.  In everyday parlance, that simply means that most people would rather watch Fox News than CNN.  That’s why I think the White House is gunning for Fox News.  Fox influences public opinion and CNN doesn’t.

I’m familiar with MSNBC, The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Washington Post, and many other news organizations from around the world as well.  As far as I’m concerned, Fox News does a better job than most of its competitors, including the ones the Obama White House has in its hip pocket.
