Today’s Feature
Yahweh Appears to Joshua
Before the Children of Israel conquered Jericho, Yahweh appeared to Joshua. (Joshua 5: 13-15) Based on what the Bible says, I am certain that Yahweh is the Person Joshua met and talked with at that time, but if you read the KJV, NAS, NIV, or the Tanach in English, it may not be crystal clear. However, if you understand Hebrew (or if you use a Strong’s Concordance) it’s as plain as day. According to the NAS,
“Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man was standing opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand, and Joshua went to Him and said to Him, ‘Are you for us or for our adversaries?’
He said, ‘No; rather I indeed come now as Captain of the host of Yahweh.’ And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to Him, ‘What has my Lord to say to His servant?’ The Captain of Yahweh’s host said to Joshua, ‘Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.’ And Joshua did so.” (Joshua 5: 13-15)
The first clue we have about the true identity of the Person Joshua met that day is the title the Man used: “the Captain of the host of Yahweh.” The KJV also uses this title, but the NIV and the Tanach use another title: “the Commander of the host of Yahweh.” The Hebrew word translated as “captain” or “commander” in this passage from Joshua is “Sar,” but in Isaiah 9: 6, “Sar” is translated as “Prince.” It refers to the Messiah as Prince of Peace, or Sar Shalom. Joshua’s reaction when he learned the Man’s identity is the next clue: he “fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down…”
The Man Joshua met gave us the final clue when He told Joshua to take off his shoes because he was standing on holy ground. That is what Yahweh told Moses to do at the burning bush, so there is no doubt that Joshua met and talked with Yahweh in Person!
Commentary
A lot is being said in the mainstream media about President Obama’s speech to school children on Tuesday. He gets high marks from most commenters for the content of his remarks, and the people who objected to him giving the speech are being portrayed as Neanderthals. If you are one of those people, please do not lose heart and give up. You can be certain about this fact. Your willingness to speak out caused President Obama to make the kind of speech a president should give. The corollary is that he would have given a much different speech if you had failed to speak out.
How can I be so sure? It’s simple, and I’ll give you one example to prove my point. President Obama is the man who appointed Van Jones. Jones is an unabashed communist and hater of almost everything our nation stands for. Obama did not pick Jones’ name out of a hat. He searched the country to find someone who held his values and beliefs to run his important “green effort.” In Obama’s eyes, Van Jones was the best man in this nation of more than 300 million people for the job.
Van Jones lost his czar status after you objected. That’s no coincidence, and regardless of what you hear, Obama told him to resign. The same kind of thing happened when you objected to Obama’s speech. The message you sent was loud and clear. “We don’t trust you“ is what the president heard, thankfully, and the speech he gave was aimed as much at you as it was at the school kids. He desperately wants your trust and your support. Why? It’s because he can’t accomplish his goals without you, and it drives diehard liberals nuts.
This is the bottom line, and I’ll quote Winston Churchill—“Never, never, never quit.” That says it all. If you quit, Barack Hussein Obama will resort to his natural instincts and values which, as his appointment of Van Jones made clear, are anything but traditional. Left to his own devices, President Obama would turn our nation into a socialist state. If you quit, he’ll pursue his personal agenda without restraint.

President Obama after Speech
A Brief Comment
Representative Joe Wilson is taking a lot of heat today for heckling President Obama during his speech on healthcare reform before members of the House and Senate. Mr. Wilson has issued an apology and it has been accepted, but the fact remains that his behavior was out of line.
Even so, a whole host of democrats have said and done things over the past 8 years that make Mr. Wilson’s actions look tame by comparison. Included on the list of offenders are Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, Al Gore, Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, and on and on it goes. I’m not trying to excuse Mr. Wilson’s lack of civility, but I am pointing out that the people who are hyperventilating this morning have a double standard.
Keep in mind that the healthcare debate was and is a political debate. Adversaries in political squabbles will use every opportunity they have to bolster their claims and to win sympathy and support. Don’t feel sorry for the president. As Harry Truman, another democrat, said, “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.”
